By the way - Dr. West may not be the right doctor for these kinds of questions. I notice by his answers in the past he is NOT knowledgeable in the nutraceutical field. He called CAM doctors witch doctors on another message board he was advertising on. But now that more and more people are aware of nutraceuticals, he is not so adamantly against it publicly, but this is not his field.
Best to consult with a CAM practitioner. Dr. Raymond Chang is a CAM practitioner, as well as a medical doctor, specializing in cancers. www.meridianmedical.org.
Take care,
Alisa

I would. Most CAM doctors work with antioxidants/antiinflammatories and chinese mushrooms. Vit. D3 and Vit. C I believe are necessary. But other than that, our foods are so fortified that unless you are a vegan, more than likely you are not vit. deficient. This is the general rule, certain people have individual needs.
If you check the archives under our alternative/complementary care section, you will probably find a weath of information.

Nine years ago my Complementary Care doctor, Dr. Raymond Chang, told me to avoid B vitamins.
But I believe part of the Alimta protocol uses B's or iron or something, so I guess that's a different story.

Yes, but the good thing is that they are doing more research on the subject.
Most Integrative Care doctors play it safe and recommend avoiding too much sugar.
Unfortunately, oncologists usually "pooh-pooh" everything that is not in their protocol, including my own onc at Sloan.
Dr. West called my very well-know Integrative Care Provider (Dr. Chang) a witch doctor and in reality, Dr. Chang is tops in the field and consulted by many comprehensive cancer centers. So the more research done, the more doctors will have to open their minds.
Back in the 60's/70's, doctors were saying chiropractors were like witch doctors, and now are pretty main-stream.
We need all the ammunition we can get!

Does Sugar Feed Cancer?
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 184539.htm
Researchers have uncovered new information on the notion that sugar "feeds" tumors. The findings may also have implications for other diseases such as diabetes.

Stage 2 NSCLC Adenocarcinoma primary lung tumour
in GENERAL
Posted
Here's my history, and now I'm No Evidence of Disease!
I was diagnosed July 2000, Stage 3a, non-small cell adenocarcinoma, with a 7cm tumor in my right middle lobe and 2 nodes involved, but within the same middle lobe. I was 43 yrs. old when diagnosed. I had the middle lobe removed. At that point, my thoracic surgeon felt he got it all, but both he and the oncologist at the hospital (Columbia Presbyterian in NYC) felt I should have follow-up chemo to help prevent a recurrence. I had six treatments of carboplatin and taxol, which I tolerated well. I was getting scanned every 4 months for the first 2 years and now every 6 months, alternating between ct scan of chest and PET/CT scan.
As for complementary therapy: custom blend chinese herbal tea containing many medicinal mushrooms including huanglian and ganoderma; astragalus, polyphenols, licorace root, ginseng, co-enzymeQ10, and other traditional chinese herbs which I don't have the translations for; upper dose Vitamin D-3; zinc; green tea capsules; modified citris pectin; upper dose melatonin; IP6 with inositol; tumeric (curcumin); thymus spray, celebrex (200 mg/2xday); Omega 3; Thisilyn; CoQ10; PSP/Coriolus Mushroom Extract; Resveratrol, OPC (pycnogenol) and ORAC (berry extracts) - 3 super antioxidants/free radical purgers; Aloe Juice.
Feel free to reach out at any time.
