  1. Barb...my wife, Inez and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I am a prostate cancer survivor and now they have found a nodule in my lung, so will have to wait and see what this is all about. The love and care of our support groups, both this group and my prostate cancer group have kept us going and have helped us be as positive as we can and to maintain as much hope as we can. Enjoy each day to the best of your ability, keep in touch with family, friends and the support group and please, do not give up. Inez and I have done a lot of crying, but always wind up hugging and kissing, which really keeps us going. Hug and kisses to you both...you can never get enough.

  2. Hi Barb

I am just at the very beginning of possible lung cancer and will know more shortly. Am a 4 year survivor of prostate cancer, so have some idea what you are feeling as my wife, Inez and I have felt the same way, particularly at the beginning. Please keep in touch with this support group as I can only tell you that without the support that this support group and the prostate support group has shown my wife and I, am doubtful we would be able to cope as well as we have. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Try to stay as positive as you can and never give up.

  3. Hi Stacey

Thankyou for your reply. Yes, we have discussed Valley Fever, but no has tested me for it, but I will talk about it to the pulmonologist. Have heard about Dr Viggiano at Mayo and may also go to him. I have medicare and a good supplement (not an HMO). For prostate cancer I go to Dr Lam (Medical Oncologist) in Marina Del Rey California, because his office only specializes in prostate cancer. Inez and I beleive in finding the very best regardless of where we have to go. Do not want to be a guinea pig. If it is FV, I will certainly check into the doctor you receommended. Again thankyou and thanks to this wonderful site for all the love and support Inez and I have been given. You keep well, keep positive, keep fighting and never give up.

  4. Inez and I just want to say hello to everyone and to wish you all great October. For any baseball fans out there, must say that we are very happy in Arizona. Sorry about the Cubbies. Started as a Brooklyn Dodger fan years ago. They moved so became Mets fan, I moved and now am Diamondback fan. Went to the second playoff game and we had a lot of fun. Certainly kept my mind off my health problems for awhile. An hour ago got a call from a friend in Toronto who was told yesterday he has prostate cancer and you all know how devestating that can be the first time you hear that dreaded word. Tried to give him all the support I could and hopefully he will, in time start to feel better.Thinking about him and all of our problems that we are fighting through, and Inez and I both still feel very lucky to have each other, great family, great friends and all of you wonderful and caring people at both this support group and the prostate support group. Wish the world in general would care more about each other, than maybe we would not have so many wars. Unfortunately, power and money seems to creep in there. Well, feel better I wrote these few words. Again, we are grateful for your caring and your support. Stay positive, keep fighting, never never give up.

  5. Thankyou for the information NED. The more you are informed the better off you are in my opinion. Doctor can still give you snow job, but maybe with a little knowledge I can understand when that is happening. I also was in Air Force, but not a pilot. Worked in office. Also spent 23 years in sales working for TWA. Loved those passes, but not so good now that I am retired and have to depend on American Airlines. Inez and I board now after cat, dogs and children, so lately, we have been going like a normal passenger, using credit card mileage. We were on a cruise to Hawaii last year and loved it.

Still hoping and thinking good thoughts about your health. Take care, think positive and keep fighting. Oh, yes which Airline did you work for?

  6. Hi Ned. I wish you good results on your PET Scan. I really do feel okay about mine. Not too thrilled about the advanced heart disease, but have know about that and am working on it along with the prostate cancer. Am not too certain what SUV uptake means but someone else said that it is not too bad. What I am really grateful about through all this is all of you at this wonderful support site. You are all so very caring and understanding. Too bad we had to have met like this, but at the same time, it is fantastic to have such support. The same goes for my Prostate support group. Will take it a day at time and see what happens. Feel well, best of luck again with your PET scan.

  7. Hi Rachel. Inez and I are sure hoping the best for you. You are correct as we always seem to be waiting for one thing or another. Will see a pulmonologist 10/16 and go from there. At my age it seems that if it is not one thing it is another, but am so far very fortunate to have such a loving wife, family, friends and support group. Thankyou for caring and please stay positive, keep fighting and never give up. You have two beautiful children.

  8. Hi Kasey (Love your spelling) My daugter's middle name is Caryn (not Karen). Probably confuses everyone. Anyway Inez and I are also anxious, but will continue to stay positive. Went to baseball playoff game last night between Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs and were positive the DBacks would win and they did, so see, being positive pays off. Hope your hubby's nodes stay the same and nothing more occurs. Take care and thankyou for your reply.

  9. Good morning all. My wife, Inez and I want to say thankyou to all of you in this wonderful support group. Finally got the results of my PET Scan and they are:

    History: Pulmonary nodule.

Radiopharmaceutical: 14.8 millicuries 18 fluorine FDG.

Findings: Following the administration of the radiopharmaceutical whole-body CT

Pet scanning is performed and demonstrates an approximately 1 centimeter nodule

in the left midlung. The nodule exhibits increased FDG accumulation with an SUV

value of approximately 3.9. A neoplasm is not excluded. The lungs otherwise

clear. No other foci of abnormal FDG accumulation evident. Advanced coronary

artery atherosclerotic disease noted. The prostate gland is enlarged. CT Pet

    examination otherwise unremarkable.

    Impression:

    1. Approximately 1 centimeter left midlung pulmonary nodule that exhibits

increased FDG accumulation. A lung neoplasm is not excluded.

    2. Whole-body CT Pet scan otherwise negative.

Have an appointment with a Pulmonologist 10/16. My family doctor felt after reading report that on a scale of 1 to 10, that I probably fall between 3 and 4, with 10 being the worst. Guess we will wait and see what happens next. Could not have through any of this without your kind words of support. Thanks again, keep fighting, stay positive and please never give up.

  10. Hi Ernie. Have not gotten that far. Just surprised what the nurse told me about the air and a biopsy. Think personally she is full of hot air, but I respect her opinion, since I am far from an expert. Will have PET scan in two days and will go from there. Thanks for replying. This is a great support site and support is what I need.

  11. Thankyou Connie. I felt the same way. Cannot say it often enough but this support group is fantastic. Must also say the my prostate support group is great, but could be better and I think the answer is that men are too macho when it comes to talking about their favorite body part. If more men would share their prostate problem with women I think the women would get involved and make the prostate cancer support group even better. My wonderful wife, Inez has been very much involved and has brought in some of the wives to participate which has proven to be an asset. Thankyou for caring. Stay positive, keep fighting, never give up.

  12. Good evening everyone. As I have written earlier this coming Wednesday I will be taking a PET Scan as the results of a CT scan showed a 12 x 10 mm lobulated irregular left upper lobe pulmonary nodule that is not calcified. Played cards this evening with a retired nurse, who was told last year that she had a lump on her breast and was recommended to get a biopsy. She refused the biopsy at the time and just had another mammogram and the lump is still there and has not grown. Her experience as a nurse told her that a biopsy is not a good idea as air gets into the breast at the time of the biopsy causing a cancer tumor to grow and now feels that she was correct in her decision as her lump did not show change. My question to anyone here is if they have ever heard this explanation before, as her suggestion is that I do not get biopsied. Am not sure I agree, as her answer of being an experience nurse is all she was going on and though I respect her nursing experience I need a little bit more information. Has anyone ever heard of air during a biopsy making the cancer grow.

Good health to all, keep positive, informed and never give up.

  13. Thankyou Rachel for your concern. Inez and I totally agree that it is better to have an idea what is coming as I have learned through fighting prostate cancer that an informed patient makes a better candidate to be successful. Thanks again to your and your wonderful group. Keep fighting, keep informed, never give up.

  14. Sharon, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Like everyone else in your group you have shown an ability to care, to support and to be there when needed. Cancer, regardless of what type it is has a way of changing one's life totally. It seems that it gives you choices, either to stay positive and keep fighting, a way to help others in need or feel sorry for yourself and give up which is not at all acceptable. After years of fighting heart disease, diabetis, prostate cancer and now the possibility of lung cancer, I still refuse to give up and hide. I have done this and each time my wonderful wife, Inez has brought me back and has shown me the waste of time doing that. Helping others and being as positive as possible, though difficult at times, seems to work better. We have found that the old adage of "when you are dealt a lemon make lemonade" is very true. Thankyou and all members of this wonderful group for your caring support. Be positive, keep fighting, and enjoy each day to the fullest.

  15. Kasey, my wife and I wish your husband total remission with prostate cancer and we surely hope that there are no further problems with his lung. Sounds like he lucky like I am having your support and love which so very, very, important. I do hope that I do not have to be here, but am certainly feeling a whole lot better just talking to all of you in this support group. Even if test results are possible, I may still hang around.

  16. HI SHELLEY....Thankyou and everyone else for the kind words and kind thoughts. I was told to try and have a positive attitude 4 years ago when they found prostate cancer and they were right. I have been very fortunate thus far as my support group is great. More important, and particulary with prostate cancer, as it concerns a part of a man's anatomy that he holds dear to his heart and therefore, does not like to talk about, I have a wife that has been by my side constantly and who I love dearly. She has helped many other wives whose husbands have prostate cancer in telling them how important their support is. September is prostate cancer month, but I will bet you that most people do not know this. Men, unlike women with breast cancer, do not want to speak out about it. If anyone has spoken out about prostate cancer it has been the women. I do think it is getting better each and hopefully continues doing so. I will have PET next week and we will go from there. You cannot worry about what you cannot control, but once you have the results, you than have some control and can try to be positive, keep fighting, become an advocate, remember doctors put on their pants, or their dress, the same as we do, so do not be afraid to ask questions and do not accept some technical answer you do not understand. Inez and I cannot thankyou all enough for such wonderful words of support. All have a great day, a healthy day and keep your spirits up the best you can.

  17. As I have found out battling prostate cancer, I never wanted the cancer in the first place, but I am certainly thankful that I have met some of the nicest people in the world and some of the most compassionate. Does this not make you wonder at times, that if there are people like this, why is this world so full of hate, greed, prejudice and such a lack of understanding for one another. Hate to think that it is necessary to have a life threatening disease to make one open their eyes to what really is important. Thankyou all for your help and concern.

  18. Thankyou Maurice. I will most certainly keep you posted as to my results. I do realize I am jumping the gun, but at my age, I do not feel that there is a lot of time for watchful waiting, plus, I have never been a great one to wait. Your sculpture look fantastic. Very envious of anyone with your talent to create. Thankyou for caring. Be well, keep fighting and keep positive.

  19. Thankyou for the kind words Ned. Will hope for the best and if it all works out, might just continue to check in on this site as thus far everyone has made me feel that I am very much welcome and certainly not alone. You mention Ned that you were an Airline Pilot. I am retired from TWA where I worked for close to 25 years. Was not a pilot but was in sales. Sure miss TWA, great airline. Thanks again, stay well, keep positive and never give up.

  20. Using my experience with the prostate cancer and trying to help others in the same boat, I will not jump the gun, will just get it loaded to fire if need be. Will certainly await the results of the PET scan, but in meantime will get as informed as possible, so that I understand a little better what the doctors are saying. Also Inez and I go with each other to all doctor's visits as four ears are certainly better than two. Very fortunate when we found our Prostate Oncologist in California. He sat with us both for 2 1/2 hours and than handed us tape of the complete conversation so that if we had any further questions or did not understand anything he might have said we can play the tape. Also to this day when I call him in the morning I usually get a return call by early afternoon. This is fantastic and does not often happen with other doctors. Will keep you informed about PET results. Thanks for caring. Stay well and positive.

  21. Thankyou for being so kind to answer. I love all the people in our prostate support group, and now have foundd the same people all over again. Have a great deal and love from family and friends, but the more the merrier. Am willing to travel to where the best treatment can be found. Thanks again for caring and contiue with a positive attitude.
