Good for you Becky. I hope it works out, keep us posted.

Overwhelmed? Every day for months. I had panic attacks where I couldn't breath and even put myself into atrial fibrillation several times. Won myself a trip to the cardiologist. Just what I needed more doctor appointments!
And then a blessed reprieve with the Iressa. Once my husband got through the chemo and started the Iressa things have calmed down (or I've calmed down). Now that he is feeling well I don't feel so anxious and worried (at least not all the time).
I am hoping your mom will take a turn for the better so that you can take a deep breath! I guess the only thing I can tell you is that when your mom feels better you will too.

Oh Kathy,
I am so sorry. Think how many families will benefit from redoing the waiting room, it is a wonderul memorial. Take care and know we're all thinking of you.

Well, it looks like your hair is back, and you're playing soccer! You better come back here and give us a full report.

We will miss you but I have had that surgery so I know how much your son will appreciate having you there.

My husband was diagnosed due to vena cava syndrome but no one has ever mentioned putting in a stent. Why do they think this is necessary?
-
Also just want to say you can always check with your family physician and see what he says. Sometimes we get so used to going to the oncologists etc, we forget our family doctors who are sometimes more helpful with the "other stuff" like pneumonia, infections. etc.

Cynthia,
I have been wondering where you were and why you hadn't posted. I am so so so very sorry for the loss of you husband.

Dinners were much appreciated when my husband was first diagnosed. Another great help was once someone came and blew out our driveway and sidewalk so we didn't have to shovel the snow ( you don't say where you are from but if snow's a possiblity have your son do the shoveling for them), raking the leaves will also be appreciated. Although these might be things her husband can handle, he's going to be picking up all the things she can't do for awhile and will need the help. It's great you want to do something.
Also, after cancer it has been very hard for my husband to be around smoke, just the smallest amount sets him coughing. So one thing you can do is refrain from smoking around her.

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I can't wait to read Chapter 104 in the ongoing saga of The Duke of Earl (does anyone else hear that song in their head whenever Ginny posts?).
Best wishes to you both.

John, I had others e-mail for your address to send a check so there will be some other checks coming. I got your address from your stalker okdebi.

What a great project! I have a daughter that is also in the 7th grade.
Here's a place to start: If you search the Activism Forum you will find several letters written regarding lung cancer. Read the letters to Revlon especially DaveG's and Estrea's. Also I believe in the "Lung Cancer in the News" Forum are letters written to a newspaper, one is by Hebbie.
If you go to www.alcase.org you will find more information and a link to write to various officials.
Good luck on your assignment!

Oh Estelle,
So sorry to hear you were in the hospital. I thought maybe you and Dave G had run off together! Don't do that again! You have someone come on here and let us know you are sick next time (I'm going to be real embarrassed if someone tells me I missed this somewhere).
You know you are our favorite chat room participant!!!
Hugs & kisses too

Candy,
I am so sorry for your loss.
I think going back to work is a good idea.
When I was very young I had a sister that passed away very suddenly from a strep infection. Years later, my mother told me that going back to work helped her get through it. She had to go somewhere every day and put the grief to the side and deal with other things.
I hope your pain eases with time.

Oh Cheryl, I'm so sorry.

It's going to take awhile to get over major surgery. It took me longer than 4 months to recover from having my gall bladder out!
I will tell you that one of the best things I ever did in my life was to hire someone to come in and clean once a week. It is heaven, and I know that even if it doesn't last, it was cleaned one time that week! If I lost my job I would be on the road with a sign, "Will Work for Cleaning Lady." So how about checking the ads and having someone come in once in awhile at least till you're feeling up to doing it yourself?

It sounds like Earl has the right idea. Enjoy each day you can.
The Iressa is a good idea I think. Hopefully it will keep the cancer at bay and give you a lot more time together.
Port Questions
in GENERAL
Posted
Another vote for a port. My husband started treatment very quickly due to having vena cava syndrome. They had to get him going fast to get the tumor off his vein. He started chemo without a port and all went well until his vein leaked. You can imagine that poison going into the tissue of his hand. He had to have about 12 shots in the area to neutralize the chemo. It was terrible.
The port is great but make sure they give you a perscription for the cream that wil numb the area so you don't feel the insertion of the needle. You put it on an hour or so before you go.
He does not take a blood thinner he goes to have the port flushed every so often.
