  1. Hi Rhonda

You will find lots of support on this site. Members are very knowledgeable and can certainly help with questions you may have.

I was diagnosed as stage 1B and had my upper left lobe removed. normally they do not recommend adjuvant chemo for that stage. I asked for a second opinion and did not get a decision. So I pushed for it and I had 4 rounds of chemo. My reasoning was to throw whatever ever I could at it now to reduce the risk of it reoccurring.

  2. Hi Nicole

Sorry to hear that your Mom's " big break " is not going as you had hoped. I think until you get scan's done it is difficult to guess at what may be the cause. I think the new normal is the usual after you fight this beast. even when you win, it takes it's toll on your body. Maybe your expectations for your Mom are based on pre treatment and may not be realistic now ? Maybe it is a result of that thing which catches up with all of us....age. There could be a number of reason's for it but I can understand that your first thought's would be cancer related. Take care Nicole and please keep us updated. I am sure she still has her great sense of humor.

  3. Hi JRx

Sorry you have a reason to be here. I was also 47 when I was diagnosed and I can certainly relate to the shock your family is dealing with. As other's have said, it does get easier once a plan is in place. Then you go from confusion into a fighting mode. This is a great site for support and information. Please keep us updated and post any questions you have. I'm sure some members will have answer's for you. take care.

  4. I had my regular chest CT scan on February 2nd. I was concerned because this time the Oncologist also ordered an abdomen CT Scan. Well after waiting 2 1/2 weeks, I met with the Oncologist this morning to get the results. ALL Clear!!!! In his words " no lumps or bumps". Breathe easy for another couple months until test time again.

  5. Judy thanks for offering to share those words of wisdom. Some of us can use all the help we can get. LOL

Now Linda, being from Alberta, I'm sure you know what I mean. LOL

Well really nice day here in the knife. Maybe around -15C.

  6. Welcome to this great site but sorry you had a reason to find us. Sounds like your Dad was very fortunate for it to be found so early. Mine was also discovered early enough for surgery. You did not mention if your dad had a PET scan done to determine if it was malignant or not. Mine was too small for a biopsy and the PET scan was inconclusive. In my case they did a wedge resection and removed the spot which was on the surface of the lung. They looked at it under a microscope in the operating room and determined that it looked suspicious. So they removed my upper left lobe by VATS. I was released from the hospital on the third day and flew 900 miles to my hometown. The following day I even dropped into my work to say hello to everyone. Within 2 weeks I was taking very little pain medication at all. Please keep us updated.

  7. Hi ts

I think working during chemo may be different for everyone. I had 4 rounds of chemo and found that fatigue got worse with each round. There was a gentleman next to me that would take chemo day off but go back to work the next day. I think it effects everyone different. I can also understand your desire to have some kind of normalcy in your life by going back to work. For me I think sitting around the house and having too much time to think was more difficult than the physical side effects of chemo. Fortunately my boss's wife was also dealing with cancer and he was very supportive. My insurance covered my salary but he made it clear that I could go into work and " volunteer " whenever I felt up to it.

  8. Hi

Sorry you have a reason to be here as well. You will receive lots of support from members here. They will also pass along their experiences to your questions. Tarceva has been called a miracle drug by some members on here. Hopefully it will work just as well for your Dad so that he will have lots of time to spend with his grandkids. Please keep posting and keep us updated.

  9. Sorry Jamie I cannot answer your question but CONGRATULATIONS on the good news. You are such an inspiration on here for everyone. From all your advocacy work, willingness to help others, to your positive attitude. It is so great to see you get these results.

  10. Mrs Krauss

Welcome to this great site.I think it was very fortunate that your Mom was diagnosed early enough to have surgery. I too had a lobectomy and my chest tube was removed on the third day. I never had any of the problems your Mom had. I agree with everyone else in suggesting another Doctor. This guy may be respected in the medical community but he has made too many mistakes with your Mom. Take care and please let us know how things are going it.

  11. It sounds like your Doctor is not satisfied with partial good news. It is good that he is being aggressive and trying another chemo combination to even improve the results.

They have medication to deal with nausea from chemo drugs. I had some ringing in the ears from Cisplatin and have heard the same comment from other's as well.

  12. Hi Kristin

Sorry to hear about your Dad and that you have a reason to be here. You will certainly find great support from the members here. they are also very knowledgeable so if you have any questions, just post them and I'm sure someone can help with an answer. If you read some of the forums, you will also see there are good news stories here as well.

  13. Hi Mary

Welcome to this great site. I will share a little of my story with you. I had some chest pain and after 3 weeks my daughter made an appointment with a GP. One of the test was a chest x-ray and 2 months later I was told they found a spot about the size of a pea on the surface of my left lung. I had alot of test over the next 6 months but they could not determine with 100% certainty if it was malignant or not. I lost my Mother and Brother to L/C so I told them I wanted it removed. Even on the operating table. the thoracic surgeon was still telling me it was not cancer. He removed the spot during they surgery and it looked suspicious so he removed the upper lobe. It was cancer.

I am praying that your's is not. But just wanted to share my experience with you. A lobectomy is major surgery and I'm sure everyone especially you want to avoid it if possible. So I agree with the testing to be certain. Mine was too small to do a biopsy.

I am not sure if you can give yourself symptoms but I do know for sure that every little ache and pain you have, you can find a way to relate it to L/C. While going through that wait and see period if I have a pain in my big toe, I find a way to think it may be L/C. Of course it would not have anything to do with me stubbing it on the stairs yesterday. Take care and please keep us updated.

  14. Well Judy I think everyone is having a party today because there is no one on here. LOL And that is great. LOL

Well it is really nice in the knife today. Somewhere around -20 and it is a light snow falling. When snow is falling this time of the year it is a good day because normally it is too cold. Soon be time to go ice fishing. Planning on going to the farm next weekend as well. Just to do some nice snowmobiling in all that fresh powder.
