  1. Looking forward to the June luncheon! Thanks for organizing it. Ellen
  2. Out of deference to my patron saint, Dr. Atkins, I'd have to scrape off the breading, but, once I've done that, I'll just pig out so long as I can get legs and wings! That'll also help me not give in to the red beans and rice, corn, cakes, pies, and other yummy carbohydrates. What exactly is the nearest airport to your house? Ellen

  9. Hi Fillise. I appreciate your position -- but what would you say if their 'religion' dictated that they should withhold food from their child? Or break his bones? Or kill him? (Like Abraham was allegedly ready to do with Isaac.) Is there ANY situation in which you think society (i.e. the govt) should intervene between a parent and child? Just curious. Ellen

  11. I'm so sorry, Caren. I hope you take comfort in having been such a fantastic daughter. Ellen
  12. Ditto to what has been said. People should need a license to breed... Ellen
  13. Maryanne, the only one I both recognize and like from your first list is Pete Seeger. (I'm surprised he's not with the old ones -- he's 90!) Among your old ones, the only ones I know and like are Patti La Belle and Gladys Knight. I almost fell out of love with my then-hearthrob now-husband back in 1962 when I learned he liked Peter, Paul, and Mary. He still does and I still don't -- but we agree on most other things. Ellen
  14. About a dozen -- but they're all basically the same: Birkenstocks and Birkenstock wannabes (Mephisto, Naot, Finn Comfort, Haflinger), all sandals except for two pair of clogs (for snow and heavy rain), all black, taupe, or brown, plus one ancient pair of white that serve as my bedroom slippers. I can't imagine wearing normal shoes anymore (and I used to LOVE shoes and spent my late teens/early 20s in 4" pointy-toe spike heels, arrghhh!). Ellen
  15. Boy, am I unlucky. The only one I know is not on the list! Lassie! (From the show 'Lassie'.) Ellen
  16. Easy-Off (Do they still make that? It was an oven cleaner, in case you young'uns have never heard of it.) Maryanne, an endive is a kind of vegetable, long, narrow, and white. Not bad, as vegetables go... Ellen
  17. Thanks, Judy. endive (just one, thank you)

  19. Oh, that is so funny, it hurts!!! Thank you! Ellen
