  1. Don't y'all just LOVE having Dr. Joe as one of our newest adopted family members?!:lol:

Cindy - here's hoping you get to the bottom of things - and it's good news - in very short order. Be sure to let us know!

    Praying for us all,

    TeeTaa

  2. One of the best things about these cookbook companies is that you don't have to type all the recipes yourself! You can just submit them in any form, and they take care of it. Of course, you CAN type your own, but you don't really get much of a break in cost for doing so. I know this for sure, cause when I was looking into doing a cookbook for our PTA, I'd already figured I could get Teacake to type some of them if need be!!

ViVi is having a booth too, and I think TBone's wife might also, so I'll put y'all all together - it'll just be a little party! Man - I like being in charge!

  3. This whole cookbook thing is really growing on me. And personally, I think the idea of keeping things very light-hearted, as suggested by Snowflake, is a great idea. Besides lc, one of the things that binds this group together and helps us all get through the rough days is humor. And besides - it'd be the last thing people would expect!

I was only joking about getting through the HE first . . . let's go ahead and get working on the cookbook too. I'll get all this info to KitKathi as soon as she sends me her address.

Ginny - you may not realize it, but you're apparently ahead of the curve on needlecraft. I got my Better Homes and Gardens magazine yesterday, and there's an article in there entitled In Stitches with the first line stating, "Needlepoint is receiving a lot of attention lately as the hottest old-fashioned pastime of the moment." It goes on to talk about some woman who's "one of the foremost authorities on the subject" and creates patterns. Now get this - one of her kits, which includes the "canvas, Persian yarn, needle, and instructions," sells for $98. Yes, that's NINETY-EIGHT DOLLARS, and you still have to supply the labor!! So get working on that needlecraft, Miss Ginny, but don't expect your money back if you're buying kits from this woman!!

Katie - I'll PM you my address so you can send whatever you have. I can't wait to start accumulating stuff! My husband will just LOVE having yet another pile starting in the basement!:lol:

Thanks for supporting this, y'all. I really think it's worth this effort.

    Praying for us all,

    TeeTaa

  4. Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! So glad you found us, even though the circumstances for doing so just plain suck. There is a wealth of information among the folks here (as evidenced by Snowflake's post!), and more support than you can imagine. Whether you realize it or not, you've just gained several hundred new family members.

    Praying for us all,

    TeeTaa

P.S. How old are your kids?

  5. Oh, DEFINITELY the last one, Becky!

Seriously, I think it might be enough of a "theme" that all the recipes come from lc survivors or their caregivers. Could even have statements like, "This is what TBone wanted when he came home from the hospital after diagnosis." Or maybe not. That sounds strange now that I read it back to myself!

Anyway, y'all have to help with the Holiday Extravaganza fundraiser before you do a cookbook! I was here first!!:lol:

  6. I love the cookbook idea! I've already got information from probably almost all of the companies that you can use to put them together, as I considered that for one of our school fundraisers this year, but some others voted against it. I'd be glad to send you all these "kits" of info and to provide you with the input I received from people who'd been involved in putting books together.

And I look forward to working with you on the Holiday Extravaganza fundraiser!

  7. Doug,

So glad to have you on board! If you still can't figure out how to get your picture sized small enough, send it to me (no matter what size it is) attached to an e-mail document, and I'll resize it and send it back to you to use. Some photo software makes it hard to figure out how to resize things, but I've got it figured out!

    Again, welcome!

    Praying for us all,

  8. Great one, Frank, even if it does give points to the guys!

TBone's best friend is a biker dude - has the prettiest (and loudest!) Harley I've ever seen. So yes, I've sent this to him already! I'm sure his wife will just love it!

    TeeTaa

P.S. I'm sure TBone is reading, and is sending extra points for you!

  9. Elaine,

Haven't I always heard that left-handed folks are the most creative?!:lol: You might think you don't have anything to contribute, but I plan to "use" you anyway . . . that's what you get for telling us you're a writer! I'll PM you with my idea . . .

    Kickin' it back up!

    TeeTaa

  10. Oooooooooh - needlecrafts and decorated antique bottles. Sounds great!

Katie didn't mention having anything left over that we might use. But the fact that I didn't think to ask may have something to do with that!

As far as when I'd like to have stuff . . . well, the event is from noon til 5 on December 4th, so 11 am or so that day should do! Seriously, I don't plan to have a "cut-off" date (Ry, you must've been in the corporate world too long!) I don't mind getting stuff the day before, although it'd be nice to get it sooner just so I can make sure everything is tagged correctly, etc. But I would like to have an idea before you even ship stuff of what you're sending so I can be planning.

Thanks already to Pamela for preliminarily planning to come help. There are still some of you I'll hunt down before this is all said and done . . . Angie, Nina (Nushka), Shirley (SamsWifeShirley), MY SISTERS!!

And yes, I'm yet again shamelessly kicking this to the top!

  11. Isn't it odd how something so seemingly insignificant as a comb can bring on that reaction? Whether you like it or not, and whether other people think you're nuts or not  , you'll always have a special attachment to that comb. But that's a good thing . . .

    Praying for us all,

    TeeTaa

  12. James,

There's a website called www.whyquit.com that I've seen people refer to before. I just went to it, but since I've never smoked, I really can't relate, so can't give a recommendation! I'm sure others here will have some advice for you too.

Keep your chin up. As far as getting information from your mother - ask her if they've done a biopsy. This would've been done either by sticking a needle into the tumor to get part of it, making an incision to get a little piece of the tumor, (and whatever little piece they got would've been looked at under the microscope to determine what it was), or they may have done what's called a bronchoscope, where the doctor would've put a tube down her nose into her lung. Yeah, I know that sounds gross . . . gives me the heeby-jeebies! Anyway, there's a light and a little camera on the end of that tube, and they can see what's in there and figure out what it is. If the doctors haven't done SOME type of biopsy, they don't really know what kind of cancer it is. And it's very important that she know, cause that'll determine what kind of treatment she should have. If she has had a biopsy, PLEASE ask her to get a copy of the pathology report from her doctor. It's not a big deal to get it - she'll just have to sign some form and pick it up. Once she gets it, you'll see that at the very beginning it should have exactly what type of cancer it is, and then there'll be a lot of other information that won't make any sense to you (at least my brother's didn't make any sense to me!!) regarding where any other tumors might be, etc. PLEASE let me or others here help you to try to figure it all out, then we can help you to help your Mom.

One thing you might want to ask your Mom about is this - she can sign a form that will allow the doctors to share any and all information about her situation with you. She'll just have to put your name on the form. This way, you could actually get any pathology reports, x-rays, CT scans, etc. yourself, rather than your mother having to get them. She might be concerned about you and not want to burden you with this or scare you by doing this. Basically, she might want to protect you by not allowing you to have access to all her medical information. But please tell her that you're only doing it because you want to help her, and only by having all the information can you help her, and therefore help yourself, your little sister, and your big brother as well.

One more thing - I know you're very busy with work and school, but try to go with your Mom to her next doctor's appointment or any type of treatment she has. While there, ask questions (such as what type of cancer, where it is, what stage it is, what kind of chemo they're giving her, how many chemo treatments she'll be getting, etc.) Go ahead and start a list of questions to ask (I'll make the list for you if you'd like - just let me know), take the list with you, and don't leave that appointment until you have all the answers. Beg the doctor to write down the answers after each question if you have to! Or take that adorable little sister of yours and get her to beg if you have to!! And once you get the answers, you're not at a loss . . . you can bring those questions and answers here and we can help you to begin to figure things out. Only by having this type of knowledge can you help your Mom through this.

PLEASE consider what I've said, and call or e-mail me (Lisa has my info) if you want to talk about it.

    Take care -

    Katha

  13. Pamela,

I'm so glad to have you and your son on board! Don't forget to send me your e-mail address so it'll be easier to communicate.

And to the rest of you,

I'm just using this opportunity to shamelessly kick my own message to the top of the heap!

Can't wait to hear from more of you!

    TeeTaa
