  1. Hehe; thank you all for your replies , and the humor too. Had a few good laughs in there.

But I am having 2nd thoughts now, beginning to get curious about whats in there these days...sigh. So maybe is time for another "photoshoot" soon. Think I will split the difference...move the xray up too Oct. or Sept. That will cut the wait time in half, and get it on this years insurance too..heh.

Spose he might wanna feel me up again, but this time Im gonna insist on dinner and a movie first.

    Thanx again all....Rich B.

  2. Nexium and Prilosec , as we have learned here, apparently use the same active ingredient. I recently switched to Prilosec OTC, (Over the counter) and seems to be working ok.

Nexium is very expensive, (the rip-off version of drug..?), my copay was 63 bucks for 30, 40 mg capsules. Two boxes of Prilosec, 20 mg is 26 bucks for 28 days worth. Note that the dosage is 1/2 of what Nexium prescrip. was., but I always thought the Nexium was overkill dosage, as it wiped out stomach troubles so completely. So far, the Prilosec works just as well for me, at half the dose, and half the price or so.

So, If u are paying full prescription price of 130 bucks or so...or even a copay of 63 or so...might be worth a try to see if Prilosec OTC will work just as well for you. Just FYI..take care..Rich B.

  3. You've had a rough ride, and it is very depressing, more than for many of us here, probly. One thing; I had clinical depression back in the late 70s, and altho meds are fine...there was nothing as helpful as my counseling from a mental health nurse with county mental health. Just getting your feelings out to a sympathetic, helpful ear,...face to face, was soooo therapuetic for me. If u can find the time to make an appt. with a mental health professional...I think it would be very helpful, when we are at bottom. Just a thought, It helped me a lot. K...take care Hon...Rich B.

  4. Well, I didnt have a lot of anxiety over my 6 mos. screen appt., and good thing I didnt. Onc. offered the whole range of scans (I havent had even an xray in 7 mos. now.), but I repeated my concern that I had gotten waaay to much radiation last year, and I guess I talked him out of doing any. He just "felt me up" , (felt lymph nodes all over), and listened to chest. He said it sounds and looks good, so we could wait another 6 mos. to do an xray. So I went for it. (If they give me an out, I jump on it..hehe.) Meantime, if migraines or anything gets worse, Im to call him.

I hope Im not too darn good at influencing the docs treatments...too good for my own good, as they say. Dunno, but there is no hint of trouble, gained back weight, blood work ok, migraines seem to be waning away...so just gonna go with it...might ask for xray to be moved up few months just to get it in on this years insurance cycle, tho...and I am beginning to think it wouldnt hurt to take a look again, before too long.

Anyway, I went upstairs to see the spinal surgeon again, only saw his PA, who consulted with him and prescribed 50 mg dose of Nortryptiline, which I already been taking in 10 mg dose, as sleep aid, antidepressant. He says higher doses have been shown to help with osteoarthritis pain, so...gotta try it for a full month to measure effect. Boy, does it knock me out at bedtime tho..hehe.

So, all in all, anticlimatic...but took care of business and will get a xray before end of year, I guess. Good news tho, as far as we went...Rich B.

  5. Yep; welcome. As you can see, this is a great place for info and support. And I agree with the advice above...all we can do, is do the best we can with the decisions we have to make, and then dont beat on ourselves trying to second guess ourselves, etc.. Sounds like u are getting the best treatment possible, so ur doin good. Good luck to all of us...Rich B.

  6. Hi and welcome; Glad ur feeling fine, but I would not put it off for long. As I understand it, small cell is a faster, more aggressive cancer and can progress rapidly. Good news is, it is also much more treatable than non-small cell, they say.

Get with the doctors, dont go by the generic info and statistics on the net. Individual cases are very different, sometimes. My research convinced me I had 10-12 mos. to live, but after surgery and little chemo, the docs say I have as good a chance of being cured as anyone. Quite a difference. Get examined, diagnosed, treated...might well save ur life. Refusing treatment could be risky, I would think. Get good docs and find out what the facts/options are for you. Start the fight against the disease, so u can beat it. Most here have found the statistics simply dont apply to them, and they have far outlasted them.

The more knowledge you gain, the less fear of the unkown there is, and there may be much more hope than u assume at this point. Hope youll start treatment soon to give urself the best chances. Just my advice, from what Ive learned here.

Lots of help and knowledge here, others will be along, Im sure...keep us posted, and the best of luck to you. Rich B.

  7. Well, great for him ! I never married, but there's a H. S. sweetheart or two that I wouldnt mind finding available some day. Maybe thats what Ive been waiting for...(hurry girls, Im gettin old!) hehe...congrats to them and you..Rich B.

  8. Yep; relax and allow ur self to be human...heck, I just recently posted my whining "overwhelming sadness" comiseration....and all understood and indulged me in my bad day. Also, it takes great courage to lay out ur feelings like that...to be admired. And we have this great forum where we can do that, and be understood. Take care...Rich B.

  9. Yep; Ill add my thanx for all the good info/support Rich offers. Tho Im named Rich B., dont confuse me with this helpful guy, Im a lot less knowledgeable..hehe...thanx again Rich... Rich B.

  10. Hiya Kid; I agree, if ur having pain, should get with the doc again..? What is it, chest pain, incision, bone pain? I was off the heavy narco drugs about 4-5 months after surg., now only take an occasional darvocet or tylenol. I do have serious back and feet pain, tho, and Im going back for my 1 yr. scans and the ortho surgeon too, wanna double check, make sure it aint bone mets, or something.

Anyway, check it out with the doc ok? Only way to find out...K..good luck ..Rich B.

  11. Ive heard that shingles is a re-manifestation of the chicken pox most of us have as kids. Dunno if the chemo might bring it back out? I have no exper. with altima, so maybe this is one for "ask the experts"? Maybe theyre familiar with this..? Good luck..Rich B.
