Ann Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 What did you do on New Years Day in an effort to bring you good luck for 2007? I know that many of us grew up with traditions and superstitions about gaining good luck by either doing something or eating something on that day. My thing is black-eyed peas. I think I have eaten black-eyed peas on almost every January 1st for most of my life. My mom was a real stickler about this tradition. Quote
Bev'sSister Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 We ate Black-eyed peas and Cabbage. Maybe this is just a Louisiana thing. I think Cabbage is for Prosperity and Black-eyed peas are for Luck. Quote
Littlegirl Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 My mom and dad have the tradition of eating pickled herring on New Years to bring good luck for the upcoming year. Although dad was in the hospital mom still rang in the New Year with her jar of pickled herring. We found out that they did not have any last year and look what happened....mom's cancer diagnosis and dad's decliniing health! Karen Quote
