Bruce u
Is anyone familiar with detecting cancerous cells from the white blood cell count in a blood test ? Is this considered an accurate test for early detection of cancer ?
Connie B
Bruce I THINK they can only detect SMALL CELL lung cancer by blood, and that's not always full proof either. This is a good question for Dr. West.
Nancy B
Bruce, I have had both NSCLC and SCLC and my blood tests show nothing. My surgeon says that my tumors "don't shed" cells, so blood tests are no indication of recurrence. My white counts go down from chemo. Not sure if I was any help. God bless us all. sharyn
Bruce - My Dad had an appendix attack 6 mnths before his LC diagnosis... of course, his white cells were extremely high due to the appendix. After they removed it, his white count still stayed elevated. The doctor at the time, told my parents that there was "something more" going on with my Dad... and wanted to run additional tests... my Dad felt fine and refused the further testing. The doctor then told Daddy, well, I can guarantee you that in 6 months time, SOMETHING will turn up. Well, exactly 6 months later, he was diagnosed with LC. I guess that Doc knew what he was talking about...
