wuhoo514 Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hi, This is my first time posting here. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 non small cell lung cancer 2 weeks ago. It's spread into his bones. Dad is Asian, 66 years old. He has been relatively healthy. Dad has been living the American dream ever since he immigrated to the US and has put my brother and I through college and graduate school. He has worked his whole life, 10 hr days 6 days a week, and just now that we can finally stand on our feet, he has this disease. Everyone is devastated, especially my mom. I am 26 years old. I am freaking out too, but I know that I have to be strong for my family. Dad is in Oregon but I am currently living in DC, so it's such an agony for me to be so far away. The doctor recommends starting chemo with Carboplati and Taxol. Can anyone tell me what we can expect regarding side effects and ways (food, etc) to help him? Thanks very much. Quote
SandraL Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hi there. How devastating for you. And so sad that your dad has worked so hard for you and now this. At the beginning it is such a shock but it does get better. There are lots of survival stories here and tons of support. I haven't been on the specific chemo that your dad is on but hopefully others will come along soon and share their experiences. Prayers that they help your dad. Sandra Quote
wuhoo514 Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Thanks for your kind words. I just realized that I posted under the wrong topic. I am reposting on the NSCLC forum. Thank you! Quote
recce101 Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Welcome to the group. I was diagnosed with NSCLC Stage IIIb 24 months ago, and had Taxol/Carboplatin (plus Avastin) as my first line treatment. I had good results with it, and while the side effects were not a lot of fun, I tolerated the treatment pretty well. I'm considered "stable" -- a welcome word around here -- and feeling much better than this time 2 years ago. You can read the details of my treatment and experience using the link below. Please come back often and ask as many questions as you like. We welcome every opportunity to help. Best wishes and Aloha, Ned Quote
