gerbil runner Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 My dad, brave soul that he is, does his own taxes. He's wondering if Mom's wigs count as medical expenses, since he's deducting medical expenses this year. Anybody know? Quote
Snowflake Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Jen, Was there a "prescription" written for the wigs (that would be the easiest answer - prescription = tax break)? Did insurance help in defraying cost of the wigs (second easiest answer)? Is there a paragraph in the tax book listing wigs as possible "medical supplies"? I know that you CAN claim bandages, etc., in some way if the medical expenses being claimed are high enough... ...best answer, is there someone he would trust to do his taxes this year for this unchartered territory? It may well be worth the $150ish for a CPA to do the darn things.... Becky Quote
niececola Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Hi Jen, You can absolutely deduct the cost of your mom's wig. Go on-line to www.irs.gov and print out Publication 502. It lists out all the medical and dental expenses that you can deduct. Denise Quote
