  1. I think what is done for breast cancer is wonderful.... I just wish lung cancer received this type of support and research backing. Why not walk for ALL cancers?

  2. Every year there is a walk for breast cancer in my town. This walk attracts many, many people and raises much money for breast cancer, which affects 1 in 9 women where I live. There are literally hundreds of signs advertizing the event.

Interestingly, this year someone went around to each and every breast cancer sign and placed a second sign which reads..." Why not walk for ALL cancers...Every year LUNG cancer kills more women than breast and ovarian cancer combined".

Wish I had thought of that!

  3. Dear Elaine,

Just wanted to add another small item that would be pretty simple to do and appreciated by your family.

If there is a special dish you make, jot down the recipie. When my Mom passed away so did the special family dishes she made. I've tried to replicate them but it's not the same.

You've gotten alot of great ideas from everyone else... these are really good ideas for all of us to do. Kind of like having a will, not for material possessions but for love.

  4. Kate,

There is a powdered mix called weight gain 2200 made from whey protien...so it should be gentle on the kidneys...available at GNC. Also, Boost or Ensure can help. I sometimes would add a little vanilla icecream to make it more like a shake. I think I heard that Carnation instant breakfast can do the same thing and is less expensive than Ensure. My Dad's chemo nurses had given him a bunch of Boost samples, so you might check with them as well.

Ask your Dad's oncologist about the nutritionist ,some larger offices have one on staff.

    All the best,

    Lynn

  5. Bess,

So sorry to read about your husband. Sure hope he has one SPEEDY recovery and comes home soon. No fresh flowers when he does...until your WBC's are back up!

Your new chemo drugs are some of those my Dad was on in 1983...tough to take but helped give him 20 years...wishing double that for you!

    All the best,

    Lynn

  6. Cheryl,

Oh my gosh...Please send Jack my get well wishes...how fortunate you got him to the hospital...heart attacks can present in very "tricky" ways.

You both remain in my thoughts and prayers...please keep us updated whenever you can.

    Take care,

    Lynn

  7. Hi Kate,

How did your Dad make out at the doctors? I have been where you are and it is a difficult spot...an understatement...huh...

I have said those exact words about my own children...in retrospect, the children aren't the ones we have to worry about, they are so resilient...it's us adults who don't fare as well. I am here if you need a friend, just pm me.

You and your Dad have a special place in my prayers tonight

    God bless,

    Lynn

  8. Dear Shelly,

I am sorry for the loss of your Dad. I understand what you are going through , I too was taking care of my Dad after he became ill. I am glad you and your sister have each other to lean on.

    God bless,

    Lynn
