  1. Dear Sophia,

I will keep your father and your family in my prayers. The initial shock of the diagnosis is horrible! When my beloved mom was diagnosed in March I thought my world was ending. Then I found this wonderful group of people here and started getting proactive about her treatment. I begant alking to my mom about how we are going to beat this awful disease and that she will be around to watch her grandkids grow. Hope is wonderful, never give up on it. And when there are days that you do feel lost, the supportive and loving people here help you go on. You are in my prayers.

  2. Right after I slammed the door in the doctor's face, I would tell him where to go. Nobody has any right to tell you how long you have, only God decides that for us. There are survivors. My mom has IIIB and the doctor we sought for her second opinion told her that there are survivors out there and she could be one of them. Never ever give up hope.

  3. Estelle, what wonderful wonderful news!!! I am so happy for you. Celebrate!!!! Thanks for keeping us update, I love the positive news it continues my faith in hope.

  4. Dear Carol,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. You have found wonderful, caring and supportive people here. Their kindness means the world to me. My mom was diagnosed in March and Ada sent me a link, www.nci.nih.gov/cancercenters/centerslist.html that helped me to find a doctor for my mom to get a second opinion. I strongly encourage you to get a second opinion. Never give up hope!

  5. Hi Brandy,

I am sorry you have to be in this position, but you have found a great group of people here. My beloved mom was diagnosed in March and I felt like my world stopped spinning. I felt so helpless, sad, angry, alone...you name it. My mom is my best friend and I can't imagine life without her. She has now begun treatment and each day is a roller coaster of emotions. Surround yourself with loved ones, be there for your mom and don't forget to take care of yourself. I suggest you don't read all the depressing statistics out there, but do gain knowledge on the type of cancer your mom has and ask the doctor plenty of questions!!! And if need be, get a second opinion! I am sorry you have to go through this, but know you aren't alone. I will keep you in my prayers.

  6. Hi Anniemac,

I am sorry to hear about your husband. You have found a great support system here. We too are in the Seattle area and my mom went to see Howard (Jack) West at the Swedish Cancer Institute for her second opinion. He is great. He was very caring and took the time to answer our questions. I am sure your husband is in great hands. You will be included in my prayers.

  7. Ali,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. My mom was diagnosed in March with nsclc with lymph node involvement. She is not a candidate for surgery. She is over halfway through her radiation treatments and has had only two chemo treatments of taxol/carboplatin. We took her to get a second opinion and the doctor confirmed she is receiving the best treatment. He told us the majority of lung cancer patients receive the taxol/carbo combo. Each day is a roller coaster of emotions. The support and hope of family and friends helps to deal with all that is involved. I will keep your dad in my prayers. It sounds like he is getting good care.

  8. Hi Linda,

What a wonderful group of people you have found here. My beloved mom was diagnosed in March, Stage IIIB with lymph node involvement. I was devastated. I was feeling overwhelmed and after reading so many depressing statistics, felt I needed to find some support. That is how I came across these great and supportive people. The stories of hope and courage inspired me. Each day is difficult, but I have learned to make the most of them. My mom is unable to have surgery, but her doctor told her there is also great hope with chemo and radiation treatments. We pray for her everyday and I will pray for your dad too. Andrea B.

  9. Hi Chococat,

You have found a great site to get support, hope and answers. My mom was also diagnosed in March and I felt like my world came to a stop. My daughter just turned one and I can't imagine my mom not being around to see her grow. My mom is my best friend, I see her everyday and now knowing she has to deal with this disease seems so cruel to me. My mom is undergoing chemo/radiation and we have her going in for a second opinion this week. I have realized there is hope and I make sure to enjoy everyday with her. Your mom will be in my prayers!!! Andrea
