  1. Hey All,

My Father just told me that he saw some blood in his urine this morning. I forgot to ask how much. I called his med onc. and am waiting for a call back.

I looked it up online and it said that it could be anything from a bladder infection to bladder cancer.

    Anyone had this before?

    Thanks,

    Shirley

  2. (((Chris)))

I can personally credit you for doing such a wonderful job. This disease has hit people blind-sided and sometimes hearing the words, "the treatment has not worked" or "there's nothing left - good luck" can be equally devastating. I do not know how I would be able to cope with everything that has been going on with my Father if it weren't for you. Always know that you are doing your promise to Brad justice by being such a great motivator and shoulder to lean on.

    Thank you Chris.

    Love,

    Shirley

  3. Oh Don,

I am so sorry to have read your sad news. Please know that she has been such an inspiration to so many, she sure was an inspiration to me.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Best,

    Shirley

  4. Rochelle,

My Father had gammaknife for his three brain lesions. The follow up showed that it was a success. My Father didn't have any side effects from it.

The process of having the metal frame drilled into the skull would have to be the toughest to bare. My Father said that it hurt and the frame stays for the entire duration of the treatment and resting periods. They did a few three different sessions with him with breaks in between. He was walking in and out of the room himself. We even went out to lunch immediately afterwards.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best,

    Shirley

  5. Hi Rochelle,

So sorry to hear about the mets. My Father had gammaknife for his brain mets and it was successful.

I definitely understand for you feeling not "ready." I don't feel ready either..... Sorry for not having any good advice on how to deal with that as I am going through it myself as well.

    Regards,

    Shirley

  6. Hi All,

My Family and I had a family meeting yesterday and the doctor said that he's been continuing to have a very high white blood cell count due to parts of the tumor breaking off and entering the blood stream. As a result, the white blood cells are attacking it like an infection.

The doctor said that he had consulted with the surgeons, Beth Israel's oncologists and my Father's own medical onc and all seem to be in agreement that this is rapid disease progression and the goal now is to aim for quality of life instead of quantity.

My Mother had called and asked me to post something to see if there was anyone who knew of any treatment options left even though the docs said that there was nothing else. I feel very pressured by my Mother's request. I feel like if I do not find anymore treatment options than it would some how be my fault even though I know it is not true.

Does anyone know of anyone who was very advanced in the disease but still someone managed to work a miracle?

    Thanks a bundle,

    Shirley

  7. Hi All,

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers.

I've spoken to my Father a few times today and overall he feels much better than yesterday. No fevers today - it might really be the decadron that's suppressing it...... Appetite is definitely way better today.

My Mother called and asked me to post something in hopes that someone would know something about possible treatment options in regards to very advanced cancer. Not sure if there is anything, but if anyone has anything please let me know. I'll probably start another thread with that specific question.

Thank you so much again. And a big thanks and ((Hugs)) for Chris for starting this for me.

    Best,

    Shirley

  8. Hi All,

My Father is still in the hosp for the original pneumonia. After some antibiotics, it's better. The docs said that his white blood cells are still really elevated so they ran some more tests to see if there are any other infections he has. Everything so far has come back negative.

Anyone experience this before? I think my Father mentioned that the doc are thinking that it may be caused by the cancer in his body and that they may try chemo. Does this mean that the cancer is overtaking the body?

    Best,

    Shirley

  9. Oh Grace....

I am so sorry to hear your news. It seems like there are still options out there for your husband, and we all know that options are definitely good things to have. Please let me know if you need any info on cyberknife.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers,

    Shirley

  10. Quick update:

My Father has been having some low grade fevers: 100 degrees after they stopped his antibiotics.

I had posted a question in regards to the growth of the liver tumor on a cyberknife website. The two doctors that responded said that it can sometimes take a few months before the swelling goes down and that could be the cause of the "growth." One doctor also wrote that the necrosis could be the cause of the increase white blood cells.

I also called and spoke to my Father's rad. onc. He did not even know that he was at Beth Israel right now. My Father's doc at the hospital said that he was going to contact him. Well, I informed him that he had the outpatient scans done that was ordered by him. I explained to him that the doc said that it grew, the rad onc said that he would need to look at the slides himself to determine what is going on. He's supposed to get back to me today. He did say that it is possible that the cyberknife did not work. Ugh. This is all so disheartening.

Please pray that it's only swelling and the true results of the cyberknife have not been determined yet.

P.S. My Father does not need to wear a mask anymore nor do myself and my family when we visit. I guess they ruled out TB. Yay for small victories.

Sometimes I feel that he will never get out of the hospital.

    Praying hard myself,

    Shirley
