Each of us reacts to chemo in a different way. I take a lot of supplements and herbs and I have had great results with no side effect that amount to anything. The only way you will know if chemo will work is to try it. Radiation will only treat the cancer that it is aimed at. Chemo will attack most cells throughout the body. It is important to try to kill all the cells.

Teresa,
Welcome to the site. Your dad has a very good chance of living a long time. His cancer is very treatable. Try to be part of his winning team. If you are doing all you can to help him win, you will feel a lot better. My daughter is a great part of my team. She even traveled to New Your with myself and my wife for a second opinion, which I would recommend to an one. I will pray for your dad. Keep us posted.

You don't even have to be a mother to enjoy this one....
Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Jennifer, was.
Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and Jennifer, and this had only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than met the eye.
Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates."
About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?" Brian said, "Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure."
So he sat down and wrote:
"Dear Mom:
I'm not saying that you "did" take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying that you "did not" take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.
Love, Brian"
Several days later, Brian received an email back from his mother that read:
"Dear Son:
I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Jennifer, I'm not saying that you "do not" sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.
Love, Mom"

Frank,
From what you have told us, I would think your treatment should have already started. I would certainly call them and ask why it is taking so long. Keep us posted.

You should call your oncologist and ask him to explain what the CT scan showed. There is something there that he thinks needs more testing. Until they do a biopsy they will not know for sure. There are many things that can show up on a CT scan that are not cancer. Keep us posted.

When I am asked that question, I tell them that I quit 35 years ago and how many people I know of that did not smoke and have lung cancer. I don’t get angered. I feel that the more people I tell this to, then the more people will realize that it is not a smokers only disease. This gives me a positive feeling that I am helping educate the nuts of the world.

Welcome to the site. Second opinions are always good to get and most doctors encourage them. Sometimes they will operate if the tumor shrinks enough and there is no other reason not to operate. If it does shrink and they decide to operate, you may still want a second opinion at that time. There is nothing like having the most knowledge possible before making an important decision.

Quercetin REPORT
By Ernie Puckett
This is a report on one of many supplements that I take. Each report will contain:
What it is,
How I think it helped me.
Dosage I take, with links to info on dosage if available.
What I would recommend to my children to take as a supplement
A link to The Sloan Kettering site if the supplement is listed there. You may have to agree to the conditions then click on the first letter of supplement, and scroll down to the supplement. If you have already been to this web site before it will take you right to the supplement. Some supplements may interfere with chemotherapy or radiation. This site is a good source for that information
Other interesting web sites where I found valuable information, with links to research
Brand name and manufacture and link to where I purchase the product. This is the best price I have found.
Most of the web sites are also selling a product and may be bias, but they still contain good information. The Sloan Kettering site has no interest in selling products and I consider this unbiased.
By reviewing this report and the clicking links you should be able to make an intelligent decision whether this is something you want to take.
For additional information you can Google the supplement in your browser.
ALL SUPPLEMENTS/HERBS SHOULD BE CHECKED WITH YOU DOCTORS BEFORE YOU START TO TAKE THEM. I showed all of mine to my oncologist.
Don’t forget to add the most important item_ PRAYER
Quercetin: Quercetin is a flavonoid and more specifically a flavonol...
How I think it helped me, I think it may help prevent and treat cancer.
What I take today, 1000 mg a day. I take one 500 mg tablet twice a day at the same time as Milk Thistle. The brand I take contains Bromelain, which is purported to help with absorption.
What I would suggest that my children take as a supplement, NA
Quercetin what is it?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercetin
Dosage The suggested dosage is one 500 mg tablet twice a day on the product I buy.

Jussi,
Ask your doctor if you can receive Nexavar without doing the trial. Sometimes a drug that has not been approved for lung cancer yet, but has been approved for another type of cancer can be used if your doctor wants to. This way you know what you are getting.

Pipfitz,
Welcome to the site. I am sorry to hear about your husband. My cancer was very similar to your husbands. I am so sorry that you believe that you will loose to cancer. There are many of us here that have hope. Hope that we can survive. Hope that a new treatment is just around the corner. Hope that the drugs we are taking will work. I was told by one doctor that I had 18 months tops. I was told that I would be very sick from the treatment. I elected to take the treatment and not believe the prognoses. It has been 30 months. I have not had a sick day and feel great. None of us know anything for sure when it comes to cancer. Each one of us may have a different result from our treatment. I don’t believe any of us can know for sure what God’s plan is for our lives. I do not wish to be critical of your beliefs. I only want to share with you the hope that many of us on this site have and how it has helped us survive. I will pray that they find the treatment that will reduce your husband's cancer.
Stay positive,
Ernie

Peachy,

Sally,
Welcome to the site. You may want to ask about Avastin and Tarceva if you need more chemo. They have been used together and by them selves. I am now having Carboplatin, Taxol and Avastin to try to get rid of a couple sots.

Lor,
You do need to get a second opinion. Go to the web site below and it will give you a list of places that give second opinions and how to contact them. I went to Sloan Kettering in New York. They are not on the list but they are very good.

You can certainly find a place that will give you better treatment than you have told us about.
