    Xsite Lung Tracking System is the new software for Cyberknife for LC...Accuray in Sunnyvale, CA.. Found the information on Google, it is 3D and 4D. Can be used without the fidicials. Didn't say when they were going to start using the system, at least you have the name of the software. Maybe you can research and/or ask the doctors...

    Chemo and Veins hurting

    I had the same chemo (Carbo/Taxol)and it did hurt. What helped was a heating pad over the area a(vein) where I was getting the infusion. It expanded the vein so I could get chemo (Slow infusion).I was surprised, but it truly worked, chemo nurse knew solution. Hope this helps you. I did not have a port either. Veins didn't hurt afterwards either...

    Please listen to Dr. West. He knows what he is talking about...I too have had brain mets three times, two surgeries (no pain) Stereotactic for residuals cells and Cyberknife, almost the same as Gammaknife. Go to cyberknifeforum.org/support or accuray.com This is new technology for brain mets...if nothing else just read the info...

    Good to hear from you. Happy to hear you are doing well, what a survivor...Sorry you have to leave Dr. J and CCC. Must be good doctor's heh, we're still here.

    As far as Kaiser treating CA, I don't know. My BIL and SIL have it and love their doctors, but then again it's not CA. Only thing they complain about is length of time to get an appt.. Their follow up is good. He has Diabetes and she had Hypertension, both treated by GP, no specialists involved.They go to Riverside...Did you talk to or ask Dr. J. if he could recommend or refer you or maybe Dr. Yang. It is so hard to change from doctors' that have taken good care of you and saved your life..

    Good Grief--Quitting is hard!!

    I was a 37 yr smokerand would panic if I was down to 1/2 a pack. Had never ever quit. On January 10, 2003 when the doc asked me if LC ran in my family, it scared the ***t out of me and I quit cold turkey. I wanted to live and had never even thought of LC. I even went to the casino that night. I have not smoked or had a desire to smoke ever again.

    I was blessed and didn't realize it then. I had a great helper. Just keep the faith and every time you want a smoke think about sis...

    I was on decadron three different times, each time longer. Had to wean off gradually, each person reacts differently but there are a lot of simularities. You should be monitored by your doctor and with his/her help the dosage can be reduced. I had change in mood and personality, increased appetite, increased blood sugar level, insomnia, nervousness, energy, bloatedness, moon face and as Frank said losing strength in my legs. Look up side effects on the net, Just type in Decadron. It can create some funny stories and after awhile one just wants to get off of the stuff.

    It does control swelling in the brainand eliminates headaches.

    New Treatment for NSCLC Brain Mets

    Pharmacyclics, Inc. (Nasdaq: PCYC) today announced that it has submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) for Xcytrin® (motexafin gadolinium) Injection with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company is seeking approval to market Xcytrin for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with brain metastases (i.e., cancer that has spread to the brain from another part of the body).

    The NDA data packet includes efficacy and tolerability data from two Phase 3 randomized, controlled trials involving 805 patients, which compared the safety and efficacy of whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) alone to WBRT plus Xcytrin. These studies utilized an innovative clinical benefit endpoint that measured neurologic outcomes.

    "The clinical development program with Xcytrin continues on multiple fronts," said Richard A. Miller, M.D., president and CEO of Pharmacyclics. "In addition to the completed trials in brain metastases, which form the basis of our NDA submission, several other ongoing trials are evaluating Xcytrin in non-small cell lung cancer and other cancers. We are also moving forward with several other novel compounds, which are in clinical and preclinical development."

    About Lung Cancer and Brain Metastases

    According to the National Cancer Institute, over 170,000 patients will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year in the U.S. Lung cancer is the most common cause of brain metastases, which are estimated to occur in up to 50% of lung cancer patients. Spread of lung cancer to the brain may occur early in the course of disease or may be a later complication of this illness.

    Brain metastases occur when cancer cells spread to the brain and grow, causing major neurologic complications. Patients with brain metastases usually suffer serious deterioration of neurologic and neurocognitive function such as loss of short-term memory, compromised verbal skills and fine motor coordination, and reduction in cognitive performance. Standard therapy for patients with brain metastases from lung cancer involves the prompt use of cranial radiation, which is used to prevent neurological deterioration and improve neurologic outcomes.

    What do you do when...

    Nick,

    Very well done...I try to be as gentle as possible with people I see or know smoke. The gal where I get my scans done smokes or used too. She is a single mom and my comment to her was, if you are going to smoke. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get a CT scan every year, just to be safe. I wish I would have had someone say, please quit and understood the reprocusssions. Now when I see her she comes up and gives me a hug and says thank you thank you, I quit and shows me the patch on her arm.

    1.Since I am in remission/NED/NERD what is the protocal for follow up appointments. How often should I have scans (CT,PET,MRI etc.)...Who requests these scans/tests?

    2.I need support/have questions, who do I go to: GP,Onc,or ???

    As I think of more, I will post.

    Glad you have such great doctor's, they work as a team. Wish more doctor's did that instead of letting their egos get in the way...Does the word communicate still exist?
