  1. Hi, My dad was recently diagnosed. He was told that his tumor is inoperable and because of his overall health he can't have chemo. He is going to begin radiation next week. From the postings I'v read it seems that most people have had chemo as a treatment. Is there anyone that was told they couldn't have chemo? If so, what was the outcome? Perhaps if they are able to shrink the tumor with the radiation chemo may become an option???? I know we should get a second opinion (even go to a comprehensive cancer center), my question is at what point? This is all happening so fast. He was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago, saw the oncologist last week and is scheduled to see the radialogist this week. We pushed my dad for a month to go to the doctors for his cough. So I feel we already lost valuable time and I don't want to lose any more. Should we consider holding off on the radiation until we get another opinion or see how he does with that first? Has anyone had the cyberknife? Is that still an option even after other treatment? Perhaps if he had gone to the doctors sooner they could have cought it before the lung collapsed??? Can that be repaired? I don't know much on this matter (except what I learn from you and other sources). My dad is always trying to protect me so all he says is "nothings wrong" even when I know better. Thanks for any insight and help you can offer. God Bless you all!
  2. Connie, WOW, what a story! God Bless you and your mom. My dad was recently diagnosed. He too has been through alot prior to his. He typically is stuborn about doing anything, but fortunately he is willing this time. My family and I have been discussing the fact that (as hard as it is) it has to be his decission. Perhaps they know what's best for them. Hang in there. My prayers are with you and your mom.
  3. Hi Robin, I'm not a smoker, but my dad who was just recently diagnosed is. His tumor is inoperable and right now they can't even do chemo. He will begin radiation next week. Some are very surprised when I tell them he still smokes. As much as I have always wanted him to quit I can't really push him now (with everything he is going through). I agree with Sharon, my dad is going on 71 and he loves to smoke. He's always said if he couldn't live like he wanted to he didn't care to live. I just pray that the radiation still works. You are in my prayers. Take care and God Bless.
  4. Congratulations on 2 years! Your story is one of the reasons I joined this board. My dad was recently diagnosed. His reply was, "no doctor is going to tell me how long I have to live." You see, like you, my dad has been good at proving them wrong in the past. I just pray he and you can continue. God bless!
  5. Thank you for your help. I've never heard of cyberknife. My dad just met with his oncologist last week for the first time. My sister went with him (she's the strong one), but she said he didn't give her a stage. I will certainly ask about that procedure. I too feel a second opinion would be wise (maybe even a third). My dad is a very strong willed man (God bless him). That is the only way he has survived what he has. About 15 years ago he had a noncancerous brain tumor removed. Then, about 5 years later he under went triple bypass surgery. Since then he has been struggling with a noncurable disease called Myastheniagravis. It makes him very weak. That is another reason I felt maybe some CAMs or herbs might be benificial. I just don't want to interfere with his radiation or other meds. I fear for what the future holds and how he is going to be. thank you again for listening and your help. God Bless.
  6. Hi Katie, God bless you and your family! I am so sorry for your loss. I'm new to this sight as well. I think it is wonderful. My dad was just diagnosed with lung cancer. I am in shambles. I too want to do something. I can't just sit back and do nothing. I've already talked to my family about participating in fund raising events. I'm going to check out your link. Thank you for the info and best of luck to you and your family.
  7. Hi my dad is 70 years old and was recently diagnosed with adenocarcinama. In October he went in the hospital with some heart problems. They did a chest x-ray and at the time nothing showed up. Now after going back in for a persistant cough we are told he has a tumor about 4 cm in size. I don't understand how it could have grown that rapidly. Because of his overall health sergury and chemo are not options at this time. He's going to begin radation next week. Has anyone just had radiation? My dad means so much to me and now I'm living one of my worst nightmares! He has been through so much in his lifetime and now this. I am desperate and grasping for any hope. I hasve been looking in to CAM. Does anyone know anything about them or have had any experience with them? I am so scared at what he is going to go through. Thank you for listening and any help you can offer. God bless you all. p.s I finally updated my profile (thanks to some help)
