  1. Hi everybody.

Judy, if the last chemo worked on that tumor, I would sure go with it again, just sayin'.

Also, I don't want to scare you, but you are older this time around, maybe that's one of the reasons healing is taking longer, just sayin'.

Went out with my highschool friends on Sunday. A gal that doesn't join us often came this time. She has been dx'd with lc for over a year and was very quiet about it. She has had brain surgery and I think she said cyberknife on her lung. The brain tumor caused her to be totally paralyzed on her left side. With much pt and great effort on her part she can now walk with a cane. Her attitude is amazing.

We have been unbelievably blessed this winter with great weather. Today, tomorrow and friday will be 60 or above. Got tee times for thurs and friday. Thurs will be interesting since I have 8 neighborhood ladies coming for dinner that night. Hopefully I have it planned right and can do golf and then be the 'perfect' hostess. hahaha.

    Well back to work.

  2. Oh do I have to respond. Earl's lc was first dx'd after having a seizure and the occurence of a brain tumor. The pathology from the brain surgery indicated that it was lc and at that time another tumor was discovered in his upper right lobe.

Another surgery to remove that lobe. We then met with the onc. and the radiation onc. who both said no more treatment was necessary. Although, since he had had a medianoscopy and cancer cells were found in his lymph nodes and we knew it had metastized to his brain, why the he** was the thoracic surgery done?????

On our 3rd follow up with the surgeon, he asked Earl how his chemo and radiation were going. WHAT, they said he didn't need it. He said, well I was in there, and he needs it.

He ended up getting it, a lot of it. And BTW, Fox Chase Cancer Center advertised itself as having a 'committee' that reviewed each patient's treatment. Guess Earl was not committee worthy.

I don't believe that a better level of care would have resulted in a cure. It just bothered me that Earl was almost considered a throw away.

    I am still angry.

  3. Maria, I was the wife of a lc patient. I really doubt that your Mother is finding this inconvenient as much as she is totally scared. Her love has been dx'd with a very serious disease, she has just been moved, her financial situation has changed, etc. etc.

Give her some time, recognize that while she is not the patient, her life has just done a 180.

    Maybe she could come here.

I hope your Dad's treatments are successful.

  4. Hi Jessica, I live right outside Philadelphia. My husband died in August of 2004 of NSCLC, after a 23 month battle. He was treated at Fox Chase. Where are your doctors? We have many good cancer centers in this area.

Wish you didn't have to be here. Don't know why it seems that so many young women are getting lc. I have heard some suggestion of it being hormonal.

I, too, like Kasey, read your entire blog. Hope this is helping you manage this journey. And you are right, there are so many new things coming out for the treatment of lc. I fight very hard to get awareness of lc to the public and to try and eliminate the smoking stigma.

    Stay with us.

  5. Oh Judy. I am so glad you are in your own bed, what a great feeling.

I totally understand sleeping on your tummy. When I broke my femur it was almost 3 months until I could do that. Over 3 years later I still appreciate it.

Don't be a big brave girl, take the pain meds whenever you need them.

What's the next step? Will someone be with you tomorrow morning while Randy is on the radio?

    Keep us posted. We care.

  6. Hi Ladies (no gentlemen here today),

Janet, I always laugh and say I have plastic cup syndrome. I can't go enough in one of those cups to do any sort of test, but like you I suffer from that old Irish disease, TB. Stands for tiny bladder. I don't kmow if you are Irish or not, it is just what we called it.

I put up way too many Christmas decorations this year because I was having a big party. I took pictures and next year I am just going to hang up the pictures, LOL.

Judy MI definitely sounds like she is moving in the right direction and Randy sounds like he is being her knight in shining armor.

Janet, you must be thrilled your son has finally gotten a job. It is really tough the kids today.

  7. Still have the cold, but the goods news is I am glad I am going to live. Even did a load of wash last night and you all know how tough it is to load the washer and turn it on.

It was 14 degrees when I left for work this a.m. but it had warmed to 16 by the time I got here. Supposed to be up to 50 by Saturday.

Just booked a bus trip to see Book of Mormon on Broadway for next September and got the next to the last seat on the bus.

Judy, even though I am sure you are used to Stan being on the road, it is always tough to see them go and you being alone. Earl was away one night a week at a customers. I always turned the perimeter lights on when he was away. House was totally lit up. Earl said it was like putting a neon sign on the lawn, saying "Husband away, burglars welcome".

    Back to work.

  8. My son's favorite meal is beef stew with dumplings and I too did the Bisquick recipe. Sometimes they were too moist on the bottom, but I like doughy anything. Had to make that meal for every bday and now his wife does it. Funny how these things take hold.

Holidays were way too busy and I threw myself a bday party last friday for 30 of my friends. As soon as they all left I got the rocking pneumonia and the boogie woogie blues. In work today, but I am buying stock in Kimberly Clark. I feel miserable.

Eric, I can't keep up with you.

    Diane, love the new picture.

Freezing cold and windy here today. Very mild December so this is a shocker. Have to start dedecorating (is this a word)? Love to put them up, love to look at them, hate to dedecorate.

    Back to work.

  9. YooHoo, my grandson got accepted for early admission to Bucknell. He is over the top and I am so happy for him.

Didn't have a clue what to get most on my Christmas list and than out of the blue the present angel whispered in my ear and now I am almost done. YooHoo two!

YooHoo three, had my annual physical last week and am fortunate to be one healthy old lady. Dr. said I could try going off my statin, but I think I am going to stay on since there are so many good things they do for you. Going to do the research.

Judy, it is cold as you know what here today, so I have on a nice warm sweater, what a joy. Am working 1/2 day today and 1/2 day tomorrow instead on all day tuesday. Having lunch with the 'bison babes' today and my fall golf league luncheon is tomorrow. I am probably going to look like a Christmas moose before the holidays are over.

    Site is quiet lately.

  10. Stephanie, I can't even begin to understand how you can make a decision like this. Whatever you do, I am sure will be right for you and your decision should only be based on what you feel is the best choice for you.

  11. Judy, lousy news. But it looks like your Dr. is on top of it and you are an educated and agressive (in a good way) patient.

Please let us help you, however we can. as you take the next leg of this jourmey. We will be with you all the way.

    Hugs and a cyber ativan.

  12. I'll open. Is everyone knee deep in the kitchen today?

I go to my daughters tomorrow, there will be 17 of us, big table.

I am taking Emeril Lagasse's twice baked potato casserole, it is a tradition that I bring that. It is delicious. Just google it to get the recipe. A woman from the food chanel was asked what she takes as a hostess give. She said 'a side dish or dessert and the cookbook from which the recipe came'. What a great idea. Got on Amazon and they had Emeril's Potluck cookbook in stock and would ship it next day air for only $3.99. What a deal and I will have it today.

What is everyone doing tomorrow? Thankful for? My family and my friends. Still be able to work parttime. GOLF, of course. I am playing 9 holes tomorrow morning in a turkey tournament.

Our weather here in PA has been unbelievably warm for Nov. which makes me happy, lower utility bills and more GOLF.

I hope everyone is feeling well and can enjoy tomorrow.
