  1. Hi Bob, welcome. I am sclc too. I have put you on my prayer list -there is much power in prayer. Let us know how we can help you. What chemo are you starting with?

    Take care and God Bless,

    Nancy B

  2. Hi Dana, I am sorry to hear about your Mom and will pray for her.

I have been back in treatment for sclc, after 4 years it has gone to the bones in my pelvic area. Two months into treatment I felt a lump (it was sore too) right where my chest tubes were (3 surgeries). They did a biopsy and it was also sclc. I was so surprised, I thought it was scar tissue. I am on Taxol for 16 sessions (1 per week). I have 9 to go.

Please keep in touch and tell your Mom to take care.

    God Bless,

    Nancy B

  3. Judy, so sorry you have to do this again. My sclc has gone to the bones in my pelvic area and I am on Taxol for 4 months and a monthly infusion of Zometa (to strengthen my bones). My insurance company will not approve a PET for sclc, only nsclc so I guess my husband and I will pay for it.

My docs have not said anything about radiation yet, just the chemo. I am praying that the radiation will work for you.

    Take care,

    Nancy B

  4. Hi Leslie, I have SCLC and live in the Pasadena area. I have really great doctors. Surgeon, oncologist, and pulmonologist. They are considered doctor's doctors. If you would like to chat, please PM me and we can exchange some information. I have had 3 lung surgeries, lung radiation and brain radiation and am on my 6th chemo, and I am feeling really good. I have been doing this for 8 years and have no intention of giving up soon.

My first oncologist sounds like yours - I didn't stay with him!!!

Keep in touch and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

  5. Bruce, I have had both NSCLC and SCLC and my blood tests show nothing. My surgeon says that my tumors "don't shed" cells, so blood tests are no indication of recurrence. My white counts go down from chemo. Not sure if I was any help.

    God bless us all.

  6. Welcome Jim. I have a 26 year old son too. My first go-around was a 6 cm tumor in the upper left lobe and I was staged 1B. My lung collapsed during the ct guided biopsy too. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you are doing.

    God Bless us all.

  7. I had carboplatin and etoposide (VP16) for sclc in 2004. The VP16 caused me to lose my hair but other side effects were doable. I had Cisplatin the next time and it made me sick only because I didn't stay hydrated - drink lots of water. I have had lung radiation, brain radiation and 5 different chemos in my journey - I have fatigue and some weakness but otherwise have been able to work (except for chemo week) I have a desk job and am married to the boss so don't work long hours.

Best of luck to your Mom.

    God bless us all.

  8. Hi, I'm Nancy, long-time member of this site.

We live in Southern California and my husband and I are self-employed in the micro-electronics industry.

Our 11 year old yellow lab, Mollie, is my constant buddy and stays by my side always.

I am a 8 year NSCLC survivor and am on my 3rd recurrence of SCLC. Will finish my 4th chemo cycle next week and then scans in January.

Our son is 26 years old and recently engaged. We are a drag racing family. My husband drove fuel altereds and I managed a race track, that's where we met.

Our son drives a Top Alcohol Funny Car and is the Division 7 (Western States) Champion and he finished #3 in the nation.

I am part of our crew and the racing keeps me going.

This site has helped me through so many things - thank you Katie and Rick.

    God Bless us all.

  9. I finished 5 days of chemo and spent the weekend just laying around - so very tired. I went today for Zometa and my wbc was 1.4, so got a shot of neulasta and a warning to stay away from people. My blood counts have gone down before but never this low. I meant to ask, at what point do they do a transfusion, but I forgot. Anybody know?

My son was racing in Dallas last weekend and he clinched the Division 7 Championship and will probably end up 2 or 3 in the National Championship. He's 26 and a good kid. My husband really has a hard time handling illness so my son has said "call me Mom when you need a shoulder", and I have.

    Thanks for being here!

    God Bless,

    Nancy B

  10. Thank you everyone for your support, encouragment and friendship.

I started chemo yesterday, Topotecan, 5 days on and three weeks off for 4 cycles. My veins are not cooperating but I have had two failed ports so not much else to do. I felt really good last night, made a really nice dinner and baked my son a birthday cake....I have always done well on steroids. They must not give me that much. Chemo, start to finish, only takes about 2 hours, not bad, and I have a really good book to read.

I can't thank you guys enough for being here for me.

Prayers and blessings for you all.

    God Bless,

    Nancy B

  11. At my 3 month check up scan they saw something in the lung so did a PET scan. Lung is ok but 6 or 7 spots lit up in my lower back - pelvic area. Needle biopsy confirmed sclc.

I start chemo on Monday, Topotecan, 5 days on and 3 weeks off. I haven't had this one before. Over the years I have had Carboplatin, Etoposide, Cisplatin, Navelbine and Gemzar. I think that's all.

Would love prayers and any hints to make Topotecan easier. I have stocked up on ginger cookies and Zofran.

Thanks ya'll - don't know what I would do without you.

    God Bless,

    Nancy B

  12. Just got the results yesterday. The 3 nodules they were concerned about barely lit up BUT some spots on my spine in the pelvic area did. I will be having a needle biopsy next week to determine if nsclc or sclc (I've had both). I have had a needle biopsy of my lung (lung collapsed) but Onc. says the one in the back won't be as bad. I hope.

Ok, I'm scared. The news is so new that I haven't even had a melt-down yet. Thinking of going to a movie today - 2 hours of not having to think, popcorn with lots of butter and a large coke!!!

Please continue your prayers - they are so much appreciated.

    God Bless,

    Nancy B

  13. Thank you, to all of you. I don't know what I would do without you! I have an appointment with my oncologist tomorrow and I am going to pose some "what if" questions. I am hoping it is just scar tissue, but it didn't show on the scan 3 months ago, so, I don't know. Anyway, "IF" it is the cancer again, I want to know what his plan of attack would be (needle biopsy, chemo, surgery). I really don't want surgery again, I have had 3 thoracotomies, don't know if I could handle another one.

Anyway, I am jumping the gun here. I will let you know and I am just really praying for scar tissue.

    God bless,

    Nancy B

  14. Hi everyone - haven't been here for awhile. Lots going on with infected ports, going back to work, etc. Result from ct scan shows new nodules (largest being 1 cm) in what is left of my left lung. Will have a PET next Wedn.

I am going on 8 years of surviving nsclc, then I got sclc in 2004 and again in 2006. Lots of chemo and radiation over the last 3 years. I have just been treating this as a chronic disease, but I am scared again! How many times am I going to "dodge the bullet" as my pulmonologist puts it.

My son just proposed to his girlfriend - no date set. I really am trying not to worry, but you know how that goes.

    Prayers would be appreciated.

    Love you guys~~~Nancy B

  15. I'm here. Had third thoracotomy middle of 2006. They couldn't get to the tumor, so much scar tissue and I guess it was near my heart so I had chemo and radiation. I finished chemo in February and been doing scans every 3 months - due again in August.

Had port problems, one didn't work and the second one they put in got a major infection and had to have it surgically removed along with the infected area. It has finally healed. Right now I am feeling good and we are in the middle of our racing season which makes me extremely happy.

I do check in but usually don't have anything to offer anyone so don't post much. I think of all of you and pray for you.

  16. Teri, I am so sorry to hear about Bill. What a sweetheart you are to think of others with sclc at this time. I am praying for you and your family.
