Welcome Debbie. I hope you dad remains comfortable. Maybe he can still have treatment if the bedsore problem goes alway. Sometimes people get better in hospice and then go for more treatment.

Thanks for your support and good wishes everyone. I will probably start the taxotere in a few weeks. meanwhile, I am feeling good.

I had a scan yesterday and based on the growth of 8 small nodules, the doctors say that the tarceva is not working. The large tumor has shrunk and stabilized since the last 2 scans and they think that the cyberknife treatment I had a year ago is finally stopping the big tumor. It may be dying. I am going to try taxotere next.

Welcome Rick;
I drink a lot of water, take naps in the morning and am active in the afternoon. I make a point of walking a mile a day. I also take certain supplements, but I run it by the oncologist first. I pray too and gratefully accept prayers. You have my prayers for a good response to your treatment.

Johnny: If an oncologist told me that I had terminal lung cancer and there was little that could be done, I would find another oncologist. You are doing all the right things.
One thing that might work is to get the second opinion in Chicago, and have their recommendations administered at the local clinic in Dubuque. That is what I have been doing for my situation. I see doctors at a very good cancer center in Seattle, and have my treatment in my home town, about 150 miles away. The Seattle docs and my local oncologist have a good relationship.
Of course, it may be possible that the Chicago guys will agree with what Dubuque says in terms of treatment. But, I don't think an an oncologist should offer an opinion that one's cancer is terminal.
I have been doing this cancer thing for over 4 years now and still have a reasonably good quality of life.

Hang in there Colleen.
Soon after I started tarceva, over 3 months ago, I had anxiety attacks and depression that descended on me out of the blue it seems. I never had such a problem in the 4+ years I have been dealing with this disease. It was to the point that I cared more about feeling good again than I did about having lung cancer. I went on xanax and 20 mg of lexapro a day. For over a month now, I have been mostly ok. I take 0.5 mg of xanax every evening about 45 minutes before supper. It seems to enhance my appetite and mutes down my shaky hands from the prednisone. I guess the chemical approach worked for me.
