  1. I had major pain management issues after surgery so much in fact that i was readmitted to the hospital 8 hours after being released. stayed in the hopital for another 5 days with the anestesioligist and pain management team trying to figure out how to help me. anyway i suffered alot of pain in the hospital as well as when i was finnaly released. I promplty made an appointement with a pain management doctor. the way she explaned it was nerve endings. severed or streached durring surgery Owch this is what causes the pain and takes a long time to heal and repair themselves. she put me on an anti sejure med caled zonigran. started slowley and had the drug build up in my system. her attitude with the pain killers was. people like us who really need the pain meds dont get addicted cause they are aware of the conciquences and have real pain. any way the zonigran is supposed to help the nerve endings find each other and heal. my surgery was in feb and i just went off the zonigran. not that the discomfort has gone away I still have the discomfort and occasional pings and pangs of pain but they are short lived and i felt i wanted to get off of it. one thing i will say that i think really helped my torso get back in shape was the way i move my body when i ride my horse. i also did alot of yoga for toneing & strengthening. and i am sure this helped in my healing proccess

i hope this helps good luck pain is so hard to deal with. i can remember crying buckets

  2. hello

although i am a bit younger than you i also have/had the same cancer in the same location but my tumor was slightly larger

my surgeon also stated the same facts and felt that i did not need chemo

he stated it would ONLY improve my chances of LONG TERM survival by 5%. ( it may not be much but hey dont you want the best odds) He felt i was cured. that is a surgeon speaking. He did his job and other thatn post op check ups thats all i see of him. the surgeon however does not work with cancer every day. after consulting with my onc and doing reserch of my own i felt that being sick for a little longer now after the surgery and improving my odds of survival was worth all the side effects that chemo would give me since it would kill any microscopic cancer that may have escaped the surgeons scapel. My onc felt since i was so young i should do anything that would improve my chances of long term survival. I have to agree with her.

As others have said it is a personal decision

I chose to do the chemo and althoug it was rough doing it now that i am done i feel great and pray that the chemo got the b stered

good luck in making your decision

  3. hey all

i have never paid for a copy of any report in pennsylvania

with the cost of health care noone should pay for copies of tests you already paid for

your doctor is required by law to provide you with a copy of any of your medical records. if the office asks for payment for administration services put up a fuss and i bet you will get them at no charge

ask your doctor not the radiology department

i even got a copies of my parents medical records which covered many years at no charge.

  4. Just met with my onc and my latest CT scan is clean - clean - clean

words can not express how happy I am

I am sure there are alot of people out there that can relate

best wishes to all of you!!!!

    Ann

Now if i could only figure out how to get my photo on here then you all could put a face to the name!!!!

  5. Dear Ginny

    a poem for earl

    god saw you getting tired

when a cure was not to be

so he closed his arms around you

    and whispered

    come to me

you didn't deserve what you went through

    so he gave you rest

    god's garden must be beautiful

    he only takes the best

and when we saw you sleeping

so peaceful and free from pain

we could not wish you back

    to suffer that again

May god give you the strength to guide you through this difficult time

  6. I'm not sure how much I could help you

    but i would volunteer

I get the "oh she was a smoker all the time"

that infuriates me and i tend to disassociate myself from these people

I also had major pain issues right from the recovery room

also being that I was diagnosed in the early stages of this beast i would do anything to bring more awareness to early diagnosis

i dont think enough is being done about that and i think the general public has no clue smoker or non what the early sighns might be

let me know if you would like my help

    oh one other thing

I participated on a survey from this board that was supposed to be about post op pain managment. In my opinion it was the lameist survey for major surgery and i have no clue how it would help doctors help others in the future
