My Mum's hair lasted for at least one year after chemo (from memory)with it perhaps thinning slightly. It was radio that really helped it on it's way out. Hope that few side effects are experienced.

Thanks for the information guys.
I think we are all just very bummed out because when Mum asked her oncologist what treatment he would now recommend for her he said he wouldn't recommend anything
She has an appointment today with a palliative specialist. We are still scouring the internet for any information we can find on things that could help. There are no clinical trials in our city for her to enrol in so that rules that idea out. Am feeling very down in the dumps about all of this now, so appreciate any and all positive thoughts sent our way.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Fay. I had mentioned RFA to Dad. I do think it is available in Australia, so that might be worth looking in to. I was not sure if they would do RFA if she already has brain and skeletal metastases.
As for travelling, I do not think that would be an option at the moment as she is very uncomfortable as a result of either the spinal mets or the radiation (probably both I guess).
Thank you for the suggestions. I really appreciate them. I will mention RFA to Dad again.
Prayers to you too,
Jana

Hi all
I am needing some input and advice (and support!) from you wonderful group of people. Mum was diagnosed with multiple skeletal mets last month and has just completed her radiotherapy for two spinal lesions. We had more bad news last week in that a CT scan has revealed disease progression with the cancer having spread to the liver now (a few smallish spots) . As a result of this, she has been removed from the Tarceva trial she was on (it is not available in Australia on a non-trial basis yet).
Her oncologist basically told her he did not want to offer her any more treatment at all, and referred her to a palliative specialist. Mum still wants to fight and isn't done with this disease yet.
It's been an awful time for all of us, but I would really appreciate any information regarding liver metastases and treatments (alternative or conventional) that might be beneficial. In fact, any information that might be of any help at all would be warmly welcomed. Am feeling rather lost at the moment. I know that you all have so much on already and really appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks

Thanks for the replies Ry, Tina and Wendy. Karen and I both always thought that if the Tarceva didn't work, then Alimta would be the next thing Mum would be offerred. I have a feeling that the oncologist has not offerred anything and basically just said there was nothing else he could offer her. I am trying to do some research to see if Alimta is only available in Australia on a clinical trial program, or if it is for routine use.
I really appreciate your feedback as I really don't know where to go at the moment. Thank you so much and I will let you know how things go.
If you can, please spare a thought or prayer for Mum and Dad as I think they're doing it pretty tough at the moment. Thank you.

Hi all
Mum's CT scan results from last week showed more disease progression so she has been taken of the trial she was on, which was using Tarceva and from what I can gather I don't think the oncologist has suggested or offerred anything else.
We really don't know what comes next? Is there anyone else who has had disease progression with Tarceva and then tried something else? I would really appreciate any information as am feeling a bit helpless at the moment.
Thanks so much

That IS wonderful news and I am so glad you shared it with us.
On a personal note, it has helped to make me feel brighter today too. Mum's disease has only been progressing recently and at the moment she is having radiotherapy for her spinal mets., which is knocking her about a bit. She is also receiving her chest CT scan results today. I have been very scared but reading your post made me realise that whatever these results show, there are more options out there. And it also made me realise that people DO have success with more than just their first or second line treatment. If you hadn't shared your news with us, I'd still be feeling blue today, so thank you, thank you, thank you. And apart from which, you should ALWAYS be able to post good news, no matter what!
Congratulations again! I am so happy for you.

Hi all
I can't remember seeing these posts around recently so thought I'd put one up today. I have been having a bit of a sad time of things lately since we found out about Mum's skeletal metastases and thought it was important to try to remember the good stuff happening too.......such as
(1) My adorable niece Amy's fourth birthday party yesterday which was very entertaining (with 21 children there)
(2) Actually seeing my baby moving inside of me for the first time (I am 25 weeks pregnant with my first one)
(3) That my Mum and Dad are only a 30 minute drive away so I can see them whenever I want to (which is actually all the time, but I figure they'll get sick of me so give them a little bit of breathing space)
(4) The gorgeous lady I work with who always, always asks how I am in the mornings and actually waits to hear my reply
(5) My intact roof, which didn't have any leaks after a big storm last night.

Are you able to obtain another packet of tablets, that has been stored appropriately?
-
If the recommended storage condition states a specific temperature range, and you know it was stored outside this range then I would ask for a new batch that comply with the storage conditions. Is this possible? Usually when companies conduct "storage condition" testing they do test the product at a range of different temperatures, so you may be able to obtain this information but only if the tests were done at that temperature.
Cheers

Hi Peggy
I think it is good that the doctors feel Don is up for more treatment. Although I do realise it is one of those situations where either option doesn't seem particularly appealing.
I'll be keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for successful, fabulous treatment and burning of those pesky stupid cancer cells.
