Cathy,
I'm so sorry you're having to go through this - especially during the holidays. I know how hard it is to tell family this kind of news.
Praying the next treatment will kick the cancer's butt!

I guess I was one of the unlucky ones because I lost ALL of my hair with carbo/taxol. The hair has come back on my head (a different color and curly) but the hair on my legs and under my arms never has really come back - Yeah - no shaving!

Angie,
I am sooo sorry. This is sooooo HARD!! This is the place to be able to vent your feelings.
I'm wondering if your Dad could be dehydrated and that could be the reason for the dizziness and the low blood pressure and just feeling bad in general.
Praying for you and your Dad

Don & Lucie,
I'm glad it turned out to only be a recurrence of a previous bone mets. I'm sure you are both relieved . . . now on with beating this thing!

Sorry but I haven't heard of it before.
If you find out more about it, could you tell us more about it?
Thanks,
-
Elaine,
I am so very sorry. That just really sucks. How could anyone treat another person like that????
As you know, he is under no obligation to tell a potential employer about your illness. Can we ask, what type of work he does? Maybe the people here on this board can help put out "feelers" for him. Are you willing to move?
Sending you both TONS of prayers.

I sometimes catch Doug Kauffman's TV show in mornings. His theory is that fungi are the cause of many chronic illnesses - including cancer. I ordered one of his books and a lot of what he says does seem to make some sense although some of his dietary advice is contrary to what is included in the macrobiotic diet.
Has anyone seen his show? read any of his books? or tried the diet?
Thanks

silversmith
in HOPE
Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."
This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what
this statement meant about the character and nature of God.
One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and
get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to
watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her
interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire
and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to
hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest
as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she
thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier
of silver."
She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in
front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.
The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the
silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in
the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would
be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How
do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and
answered, Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his
eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

TAnn,
You're over half-way through!! Hang in there!

Beth,
I'm sorry you're having to make this tough decision. I had Taxol and had the SEVERE muscle and joint pains. I had to take narcotics for about 3 -4 days each cycle to deal with them and was fairly non-functional for almost a week - but with lots of family and friend support it was doable. Also I believe they can "desensitize" you if you have had a reaction to carboplatin. I guess what I'm saying is that even though it has been really rough, they still may be able use those drugs if they think they're the best.
I like to ask my docs, "if this were you, your sister, your daughter, etc., what would you advise them?"
Having said all that, I'm not 100% sure what I'd do but I think I'd try to complete the chemo. Can you get a second opinion to help in your decision?
Sending prayers to you,
