Hi Carrie - Welcome to our group. It sounds like you're doing GREAT!
-
Thanks for posting and letting us know how he's doing.
Keeping him in my prayers.

Lisa,
I'm very sorry about all that you and your husband are going through. It's sounds like you are being a fabulous advocate for him and making sure he gets the best care.
I am also an RN and have 15 and 20 year old sons. I'm glad you found this site - there is a lot of great information here.

This book sounds very interesting. Thanks for posting - I'm going to check it out.

Cheryl,
My onc said that shrinking of the pleural effusions is a VERY GOOD sign. It sounds like the chemo is doing the trick and kicking butt!
Hang in there-

I am soo sorry. I'm praying for you and your family.

Fantastic News! Congratulations!

lilgna,
Thanks for asking this - I have been wondering the same thing.
Geoff thank you so much for the list - it was really encouraging to see the list of survivors.

It seems like several of us have pugs. Could there be a connection between being a pug lover and LC?

I just wanted to remind everyone about the importance of having your home tested for radon which greatly increases the risk of lung cancer.
After I was diagnosed, we had our basement tested and it tested "High". We tested it first with a device we ordered off of the internet (~$100) and then had the test confirmed with a local man. They then put a pipe under our house that runs to above our roof.
Our whole family has always spent a lot of time in our basement (it's our rec room) and I sure wish we would have tested years before. After we had our home tested, we're trying to have all of our family and friend's homes tested, too.

Thanks for everyone's responses.
Annie - I probably do need to not put so much on my brush but in the morning rush, I'm pretty much just slappin' it on
Melinda - After reading your post, I went out and bought deoderant that doesn't contain aluminum. The salesperson said that it doesn't seem to last as long a the regular stuff and she often has to reapply it once during the day. I don't really see me being able to remember to reapply so I had my husband swear that he'd tell me if I started to stink
Heather - I'm like you, I'm trying to get out everything in my environment that I know may be potentially harmful. As far as the cleaning products go, my friends paid for a cleaning lady while I was receiving chemo and since I've been off the chemo I have had her continue (so NO contact with cleaning supplies - although if you saw my house before I was diagnosed, you'd know there weren't a whole lot of cleaning products being used before)
Here is the list of ingredients in the various products I use - let me know if you know anything about these:
bismoth oxychloride
titanium dioxide
iron oxide
aluminum starch octenylsuccinate
magnesium stearate
zinc stearate
methylparaben
propylparaben
ultramarines
mica
Thanks again to everyone-

Andrea,
This is a GREAT idea! It really does sound doable.
Has anyone gotten assistance for something like this from their local oncologist or cancer center?
Thanks for sharing,
Jane

I LOVED this one!

I know this is dumb but here goes anyway . . .
I've been using Bare Minerals make-up for about 1 1/2 years (you know, it's the brush on powder stuff on the infomercials).
It really does make mess with all the dust from it when I put it on. I also need to put it on before I put my contacts in or it gets in my eyes and on my contacts.
I started thinking maybe it's not a great idea for me to be inhaling all of this stuff in to my lungs. I really do like the make-up (let's just say I have "problem" skin) but I don't want to hurt my lungs.
I'm asking for your thougths: Do you think I should stop using this make-up or not? Does anyone else use this type of make-up?
Thanks
