  6. Hey Minigeorge;

    Welcome to the 1-lungers club :shock::shock::shock: ; how great, you are able to post from the hospital;

    I agree with everthing that was already said would only add to keep a pillow handy to put under your arm when you cough. Helps with the pain. Breathing exercises were extremely helpful, but improvement is very slow. The purse lip breathing technique was also real good for calming me down. I guess its like yoga. Glad your up and about and recovering.

    God bless and be well

  8. Hello Guitargod,

    Yes it is pretty normal and will get better but I'm 2 and 1/2 years out and still take over the counter meds about every other day. He should get something from the doc for it. I was on prilosec for about 6 months after my lung was removed. It helps alot, not just with the stomach but also the breathing.

    God bless and be well

  11. Hey Doug,

    Sorry your still having a tough time of it, like you the narc.'s drove me nuts along with the gas. I was on the oxycotin (sp), 600mg every 3 to 4 hours and needed them for a bit over a month. However, we're all not the same and your surgery was a bit more serious than mine was.

    Like MaryAnn, I had prilosec for about 6 months and still use over the counter stuff cause still have gas, but not as bad. What you might want to ask for that I had was the oxygen. Although, initally I hesitated in getting it, wanted to tuff it out ( dumb) :? It really did help with the breathing and also think it helped me heal. It was especially good at night when I was trying to sleep. Calmed me down. Also, I had to be real carefull with what I ate, I kind of guess you figured that out though. Lots of puddings, jellos, soups and lite stuff. Small meals and struggled to eat them. I also got the month sores which did'nt last long but were painfull.

    Know its tuff Doug, but hang in there it does get better, but it's so d_mn slow.

    God bless and get well

  12. Hi all;

    Got myself interviewed on local TV today!! :shock::shock: Sometimes I think my life is just spiraling out of control; but then it is a life!! Attended the American Cancer Society Rally for the Clean Air Act in NJ and was asked to speak as a lung cancer survivor. :):) I had a good time. They gave me a protest sign, I got to wear my CANCER SUCKS button and spoke till my voice went hoarse,( about 10 min. but seemed like an hour); This is not easy to do!! :roll:

    anyway, think I did well, just trying to follow in "uncle Dave G's footsteps"

    The message was loud and clear " THAT NOBODY DESERVES LUNG CANCER"; :x:x:x

    for my friends in Jersey, it was NBC Jersey news 12, but there were quite a few reporters there; Good to be a SURVIVOR today!

    God bless and be well

  15. Hey Dave,

    Be praying for ya, you that I'm with you and care!! Such a terrible disease, but your a fighter and survivor. :x:x like the old times, we just put one foot in front of the other, watch our expectations and leave the results up to God.

    Hope to talk to ya Tues.

  16. Hello Denise;

    So happy to see you posting here, and of course so very happy your mom is stable. :):):):) ; I think it's really neat that all 6 of you go. As a survivor I must tell you that it is really, really comforting to have that kind of support.

    Would'nt worry too much about the CEA reading, it can be caused by other things such as respirtory infections, IBS, and a few other things. My doc says as long as it's not rising don't worry about it.

    God bless and be well

  17. Hello Marisa; welcome, :):):)

    Interesting comment, :?:?

    For me, yes, I had quit smoking because the tumor had caused pneumonia to occurr, and as Ry put it " the jig was up", I had known the smoking was killing me but did'nt have the willingness to quit. The pneumonia made that possible but the cancer was squamous type and a slow grower so most likely it was there for years. :roll::roll:

    OK, so as I see it, the point is'nt that quitting triggered it , It's that smoking caused it; no coincidence for me ; a consequence; really somewhat simple as I see it; Stats say somewhere around 87% of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. Guess, I fit right into the mainstram. :shock: I'm just kinda accepting it and moving on and when someonre asks, I say Yes, it really can happen!! :shock::shock:

    God bless and be well

    thanks, It's just so true, nothing like a good nites sleep. I take drugs !! :P:P , just kidding, actually though, still sore where they removed the lung and use tylenol PM to help get a good nites sleep. It helps and so very important.

  20. Yes Fay,

    I agree, a thought it was a bit light, I posed the question to him on tumor markers a bit differently; but was disappointed in the response, If not accepted then why are so many using it and why all the articles" ?????

    However, like you I did like his responses related to smoking & lung cancer

    heres the script.
