Sinus? Worse?

I am a wreck this morning. Hugh has been having what we think are allergies (runny nose, occasional headaches, itchy watering eyes). I guess because of the really wet spring we had our cellar is full of mold/mildew and we have been thinking that Hugh is allergic to it. But this morning he said the left side of his face feels numb and also the inside of his mouth (his gums on the left side). I think it might be sinus as his left nostril is plugged but you know that CWD stuff! I have called the onc's office as Wednesday we talked to them about the possibility of him having allergy trouble (but at that time the numbness wasn't there) and they were thinking about x-raying his sinuses but decided that because he didn't have a fever or chills it was probably not a sinus infection. His doctor says he isn't sure if it is sinus or not and said to wait the weekend and take either Benedryl or any over the counter sinus meds and let him know how he feels on Monday. Ugh! I hate waiting. And of course my mind just runs away with the possibilities. I have broken my steadfast rule and checked on the internet for symptoms of sinus and numb face is definately a symptom. I have also checked for side effects of Celebrex and it was mentioned in a couple of sites but nothing solid. I REFUSE to go any further than that on the net....

Thanks for listening.

Candy,

The kind of mold/mildew problem you have described is considered a significant health hazard for healthy people. Do a search on what is called Sick House Syndrome, or Sick Building Syndrome. Some of the symptoms are burning and watering eyes, symtoms of sinus problems, numbness of the face, which can be one sided or both sides, mental confusion. You need to check into this asap. When we lived in New York we had a mold problem when the third level shower pan cracked and water flooded through the second level dining room and the first level den (Tri-level house). My kids became very ill until we found the mold problem in the dining room wall and had it removed (Had to have the sheetrock cut out and the framing replaced).

Candy,

How about a call to your family physician. I often found when our onc wouldn't react to something, our familly doc would. I think sometimes the onc's can't think outside their specialties where as the family docs are kind of specialists in everything!

Good luck, hope things improve.

Mold is higher this year they say than ever. This is killing me and anyone with allergies or asthma.... I would call your PCP and get something

Fay makes a good point. So often we should be going to our regular doctor for the normal ills of the world, when we tend to run to the onc. We are lucky in theat we have a great general practitioner, and he has told Lucie to call and come in any time, even if just to talk. Just knowing that keeps her going, and she will go to him when it seems something ordinary, like sinus. Also, we have found that he and the onc communicate about Lucie, and that is a great comfort. The GP recommended the onc, so that probably helps. Don
