Donna G
Anyone watch Entertainment Tonight last evening. They have been interviewing Carol Burnett- she is doing a couple of shows with the nutty housewives. Yesterday I think they asked her how she felt about Dana Reeves dying. Last night they talked about her loosing her daughter Carrie Hamilton to lung cancer 4 yrs ago at the age of 38. Donna G

RandyW
Carol Burnett's Painful Loss March 10, 2006 One of the last things that Emmy Award®-winning actress CAROL BURNETT did with her daughter CARRIE HAMILTON was write Hollywood Arms, a play based on Carol's best-selling book, One More Time. Carrie came up with the idea for the play, which premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, before going to Broadway shortly after Carrie died of cancer on January 20th, 2002, and she convinced her mom to work with her on it. After all, it is based on Carol's memoirs. Carrie was only 38 when she died, but her love of live theater had been so strong that the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Playhouse, led by MARTHA WILLIAMSON, the creator of "Touched By An Angel," asked Carol if they could name their Balcony Theater after Carrie. "My daughter was quite a force," Carol tells ET's MARK STEINES on the set of "Desperate Housewives," where she was guest starring as Bree's (MARCIA CROSS) stepmother. "She was a character, she was a writer, she was an actress, she was an award-winning short subject director, and so forth. [Members of the board] came to me and said they were doing a new little Balcony Theater upstairs and they wanted to name it after Carrie, because it is going to be a theater for new works and new young playwrights and people." To date, a little over $500,000 has been raised for the project, which is about half of what is needed. In addition to presenting new works, the playhouse will include an outreach program to bring at-risk youths into the theater and give them experiences that put them in touch with their own creativity. As for her "Desperate Housewives" appearance, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 9, Carol will be playing Bree's (MARCIA CROSS) tightly wound stepmother Eleanor Mason, who comes to town with Bree's dad (RONNY COX), when they learn her son Andrew (SHAWN PYFROM) is taking her to court. "She kind of raised Bree," Burnett says of her character. "She is this uptight, waspy kind of lady. I'm kind of seeing her as the much older version of Bree." So is she the evil stepmother? "She's kind of evil," Burnett admits. "She's a little difficult, but then so is Bree."
