Non small cell lung cancer

Oct 4 2022 will be one year for me. I am in a study. Diagnosed with non-small lung cancer. After removal of upper left lobe for tumor found and donation for research, I am now having symptoms I never had. My curiosity is at an all time high to find and learn from others their experiences. The latest was an experience in choking and losing my breath after a tremendous amount of fluid regurgitated. I’d say a cup and half. I started a diet for gerd the next day and fluid seems to have decreased. So what is going on? I’m lost.

Shecares,

Welcome to our forums.  I'm glad you found us and sorry you need to be here.  You don't mention if your follow up scans were clear or if any problems were found.  I also don't know what other study you are part of the the treatments involved.  You did mention breathlessness and that can surely be a part of having had lung cancer, but it would help to know if it was recent or when it became a symptom.  Also, did you see a doctor for the vomiting and breathlessness?  Please provide more information as that will help us to provide more of a response to you regarding the problems you are having.

I had part of my left lung removed 10/4/2021 at UCSF. My appt. for Ct and blood panel in Feb. 2022 was clear as I was also cleared in July of this year from a CT w/contrast and another blood panel.  My surgeon told me he is sure he got it all back in Oct. and i’d have to wait for the staging to know what would happen. It came back clear in Dec. and I did not need any chemo or radiation but wanted me in a study. My nodes were clear and cancer did not perforate the lung lining. It was contained to upper left area. Of course my breathing was going to be affected by all this trauma of surgery and the rest of my body due to major drugs and cutting into my nerves. I’ve done quite well but have leftovers of symptoms i’ve never had in my life. I choked and vomited a cup and half liquids four nights ago. It scared me. I have found the symptoms to be related to bronchorrhea. I have had all the signs of acid reflux since March, something Ive never had. Last two days I’ve done the gerd diet guidelines and feel much better. No acidic foods or drinks. I did have shortness of breath but not as much as I did have a few days ago. I do have little puffs of air come out of my mouth at any given time and wondered what the heck? I tweaked my knee and had to quit exercising. I was walking 3/4 of mile in 15 mins. @3.0 mph. I am going back to gym in morning after a three week break. I have another surgery (prolapse) coming up on Nov. 4th, a sleep clinic in Oct. and this is where I’m at now. Looking fir others who and what they have experienced. Thank you. I hope this answers ?’s. Sherry

Hi. I'm wondering if the study you are in is prescribing any meds? I have had breast cancer twice, thyroid cancer, and lung cancer. I want to suggest you call your Oncologist before you attempt to go back to the gym. Also, my Docs always reassure me that they don't mind if I call or go in for a false alarm. They say that if it is something they are glad to have me present early on when treatment is easier. Best wishes. Mamma-Om

Shercares,

Thanks for joining us here. We’re a bunch of good folks, IMHO, and always glad of more.

I’m not experienced with what you’re describing. I am wondering what your physicians say about what’s been happening the past two days. Those symptoms might be GERD but, based on what I’ve heard from others, they might also also be related to lung stuff. The breathlessness makes me wonder about pulmonary embolism, for example, which I’ve had, and involved increasing breathlessness.  So other people’s experience would be useful in many ways, but it won’t take the place of a doctor’s feedback. I’d start with the study docs and be sure a pulmonologist gets to weigh in also.

Also, I’m curious about the study. The ones I’ve heard about involve trial medications. I’d love to learn about other ones, just for my own knowledge base.

Karen
