  1. Hi Berry,

Welcome to the LCSC message boards. It sounds like you have done quite a bit of research, however LUNGevity has a medically vetted website and is the go-to resource for those wanting to know more about lung cancer. Here is a good link to start with: http://www.lungevity.org/about-lung-cancer/lung-cancer-101 If you have any questions about the website or support services that we offer please let me know.

  2. Hi John,

Welcome to the message boards, How neat that you and Donna G are both RN's! Anyway I read that you are aware of the statistics however there are a lot of people (many of whom I know) who are proving those statistics wrong! LUNGevity has the most medically vetted website and I think this link would be a good start for you. Lung Cancer 101 http://www.lungevity.org/about-lung-cancer/lung-cancer-101

Please keep posting if you have any questions, want to vent or just need some advice. We are here for you.

  3. Hi pobuddy,

Welcome to the LCSC message boards. I'm glad you have a great support system. We are here for you and we have many friends here who have experience. So please ask any questions or share any feelings you may be going through.

Like Tom mentioned above LUNGevity has the LifeLine Program. That may interest you. If so, please let me know if you have any questions on getting started.

Hope to hear from you soon,

    Cindy

  4. Hi Marie! I am so glad to read the good news. I truly hope the nurse navigator will steer you in the right direction. Please let us know if you have any questions. Also if your dad would like to talk to a mentor please let me know. We can connect him to someone who has experience with a similar situation. It's called the LifeLine Support Program: http://www.LUNGevity.org/LifeLine

I look forward to you next update.

  5. If you have a current or previous lung cancer diagnosis, your opinions on the future of lung cancer patient care are important to us!

Research studies are currently underway searching for a gene that causes an inherited predisposition to lung cancer. Such information has already had a significant impact on patient care in areas where these genetic risk factors have been established (ex: breast and ovarian cancer). In order to best serve the needs of the lung cancer community who will be directly impacted by the outcome of this research, it is essential to understand the psychosocial factors that are important to the community. Below is a link to an anonymous survey assessing these factors. Anyone with a previous or current lung cancer diagnosis is invited to participate. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is anonymous.

Thank you in advance for your participation!

  6. Hi Lee,

Welcome to the LCSC message boards. Wow, you have a lot on your plate. I read where you mentioned that you are worried about work. Cancer and Careers is a great resource for people in the workforce. Here is a lionk that I think may help you. http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/at-work/Back-to-Work-After-Cancer Also, aside from our message boards LUNGevity has a wealth of information on their website as well in the survivor resource center. Here is a link to that section http://www.lungevity.org/support-survivorship/survivor-resource-center Please let me know if you have any questions about any of our support resources.

I look forward to your next update. We are here for you.

  7. I am scheduled to start chemo on Wednesday and I am terrified of the side effects. The tumor in my right lung is mixed SCLC and androcarcinoma (sp). The SC has spread to one adrenal gland. Chemo seems to be only option (carboplatin and etoposide) (2 opinions). I am a grown woman and I feel like I'm being a hysterical baby about this. Just the thought of chemo is so horrible that it has affected my whole being! just need to know if anyone else has experienced this kind of debilitating fear. Even though I have a really great support group, I feel so very alone.

Has anyone had any experience with these two chemo drugs? Thank you for any support...

    Hi Linda,

Welcome to the message boards I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. Please know that we are here for you. You are not alone. Have you heard about the LUNGevity LifeLine Program? The Program connects you to a mentor who has (or is in) a similar situation as yourself. Please let me know if you would like for me to give my colleague a heads up that you may be seeking support. Here is the link to get started: http://www.LUNGevity.org/LifeLine
