  1. Hi, Lilly. Some things my wife and I learned from chemo experience:

    (1) Take the nausea medicine every day BEFORE you get nauseated. You should do this as long as you are taking chemo.

    (2) Eat small snacks every 2-3 hours instead of the three squares a day. This will keep the stomach with something on it, and cut down on the nausea. It also ensures enough nutrition.

    (3) Your taste buds will change, so you can't go by whether things taste right or whether you are hungry. Just eat anyway.

    (4) Continue to drink plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated -- Ensure, Boost, Smoothies, Frosties, shakes, juices, water.

Keep us posted on your progress and welcome to our cyberfamily. Don

  2. I believe that no one should be alone for Thanksgiving unless that is their choice. I think your son suffers from a bad case of insensitivity. We men sometimes don't get it. I'm glad you have a good relationship with your son and his family, and this shouldn't spoil that. Take care, and vent here anytime. Don

  3. My wife had trouble swallowing after radiation in the throat area. We went to liquids and soft foods with lots of calories like Ensure, Boost, Frosties, Smoothies, etc. For acid reflux, the onc prescribed (at my suggestion) Nexium, which worked for my wife. She went off it when she didn't need it anymore. Don

  4. We had a pleasant Thanksgiving, although it was hard without Lucie. My daughter and younger son went with me to Black Eyed Pea Restaurant for a noonday meal. We spent some time with my daughter. Then that evening we went to my older son's brother-in-law's home where we had a big meal with 22 people. It was nice. I'm glad we were able to get through it okay. Don

  5. Shauna, many men have a hard time dealing with these matters, sometimes even talking about them. You need an outlet for your emotions, so I hope you have a friend who can be a listener for you. Don

  6. There is definitely such a thing as "chemo brain". My wife had it as a side effect for some of the chemo she had. She had short term memory loss, but it came back. When she had radiation of the skull for a metastatic tumor there, she had some loss, but got most of it back. Don
