Jamie, don't know your age but when I was in my middle 30's, I had 6 family members pass within 12 to 15 months which included my mom and dad. We lived at the funeral home every 2 1/2 months.
As Don said, this is life. Take a deep breath and know it will reverse and everything will be good for some time too.

You got it Jane, will pray real real hard.....

Charolette,
I believe you are talking about Social Security Disabiliity not Supplemental Security Income or better known as SSI.
The answer to your question is yes if he worked and paid into Social Security 5 out of the last 10 years before he became disabled and he is fully insured. At his age he will need approx 38 credits and what that means is normally a person who works full time all their life earns 4 credits a year so to get 38 credits in full time work that is only 9 1/2 years assuming 4 credits a year.
All he or you has to do is phone 1-800-772-1213 and set up an appointment to be called at home or you can go into your local Social Security office and file in person. He will need his birth certificate and tell him to take with him his 2003 W-2 showing his wages. They probably already have that on file but if not, it will be to his benefit to give them update info. If he has any medical records on his disability he can take them too, if not Social Security will request his medical records. If he was ever in the military, tell him to take in his DD214. May or maynot be needed...
Social security will speak to him about SSI but that is a needs based program, and with him getting a pension, he may not qualify for it. It is a low income paid program. They will speak to him about it to see if he qualifies and if so will take a claim for that program too.
Under Social Security disability, it has a full five month waiting period before it can pay benefits to those that are approved. You say he became disabled with lc in Jan/2004, that means if that is the date he uses on the claim, and he is awarded benefits, he would be eligible for payments starting with the month of july/ 2004. His receiving a pension has nothing to do with Social Security disability. He just has to quality under the guidelines i mentioned above. Tell him to file immediately....it is in his best interest to do so.....If he is approved, Medicare would start July/2006.
You can pm me anytime regarding this matter....

Fay,
I to had a problem with an insurance claim for the Iressa meds of Buddy's that I paid for and they were to reinburse me. to make a long story short, I finally wrote a letter to the president of the company and told him in no uncertain terms that I had no idea how his company was making any money when half his staff or more didn't know their heads from a hole in the ground. that all I got from them was constant misinformation. That his company's misinfo could have been the reason my deceased husband did not stand a chance with the Iressa meds that were not delived timely as first, second, and third misinfo reports were given to me. It didn't take long and I got his attention and paid....

My neighbor friend phoned me this morning. Her husband has been in the hospital for about one month, this time around, and it seems he is not going to make it. He had a heart transplant many moons ago down in Houston, I think he is one of the longest living people with this surgery. They are having a conference with hospice today. she wanted my input on the hospice subject. I explained how I felt being able to have Buddy with me here at home in the family room. Always at my side in a comfortable surrounding for both of us. She will probably do the same. I told her I will be there for her 24 hours a day if needed. Oh, my heart is so heavy right now knowing someone close is going to be going through this horrible thing called DEATH....WIDOWHOOD.
Am asking for your prayers to help George cross over as peaceful as possible.

Debbie, I am so very sorry for your lost of Chris. He to have a very hard time with this cancer. Now it is over and he is back to full health and waiting for you someday to join him. May you find some peace in the coming months just knowing that you were there for him through that journey.

Peg,
I know the feeling. Those first six weeks I wanted to die to. All I did was cry when I was alone or whenever anyone spoke Buddy's name. What I guess that got me though this far is hearing in my mind Buddy tell me I would make it for I was strong. He told me this over and over when he was sick. He never lost a loving wife, I was the one who lost the loving husband. He didn't realize how devastating it was going to be. I really don't think he could have done this widow/er thing. I wonder sometimes how I am doing it. Just know that we are the ones left to carry on I guess because that is how God wanted it. Why? who knows.
I wish I could help you get though these weeks and months. One good thing is school is almost out. YOu may find that once you get back now and talk with everyone you care about there, you will have some strengh from them to make it through each day. It might be the strength you need. The initial point of getting back and facing everyone is the hardest part.
You know, you do have strength to carry on for you would never have posted here on this board all those 1025 times if you didn't have a strong mind and heart. You are strong, you will survive and be there for Sarah to. You have her beautiful future to look forward to.

Karen,
Can't wait for you to get home. We knew something was wrong. You will have to pin one of our phone number on Bob's shirt so he calls us immediately. It is not like you to not post.
Another person who hasn't posted is Carlton. His last post spoke of Iressa expenses. I e-mailed him but got no answer....
