  1. Yesterday started out as a day of second guessing my husband's decision to take the job in GA since that would mean separation. Then I looked at my email and I had an invitation for the interview I have been waiting for-all expenses paid! That is almost unheard of in my field. Then, while my husband was waiting to have his PET scan, the local job called him and told him not to bother coming in, they didn't need him. That was providence finalizing the decision to take the GA job (which is what I think will be best for our family longterm. At 6:30 pm he received his call from his oncologist and the scan is "clean." The pleural thickening is most likely radiation burn. Almost 9 1/2 months post surgery and no other cancer has been detected. We are overjoyed right now. And, he finally has returned to work this morning after being on leave since the middle of last August.

Now, if I can just nail this job on Monday then we will be moving to GA.

Thanks for your continued support and good wishes.

  2. My husband finished radiation in March. The CT scan shows a pleural thickening in his upper right lobe (the "good" lung) which has been present in previous scans. The oncologist wants to have a PET scan done tomorrow because the pleura has grown a little bit since the last scan. The good news in that his CEA marker is 1.1 and the normal range is 3.

Now, his job situation rides on the test results. He has an offer for a very good company that is based in Atlanta and an ok job offer for a local company. We live in MD so this is obviously a big decision. My insurance will not cover him in GA and the new health insurance takes 90 days to kick in. I am in the interview process with a prospective employer in the Atlanta region. Even if I don't get this job, at least the Atlanta company will fly my dh home every other weekend. So many decisions! Oh, and of course both employers expect him to report for the first day tomorrow (Atlanta company will train him in this area before sending him down south).

Please say a prayer for great PET scan results tomorrow. I think we are due for some positive changes. :)

  4. Candy,

I am praying that your mom gets some relief and can get things stable. Hang in there and stay strong for your mom. She is lucky to have such a loving daughter.

  5. Tanner,

Life is so unfair. My heart is breaking for you. Like you I have a 3 and a 5 year old. I tried my best during treatment to meet my husband's needs and be a good wife but I knew that the kids were my priority. You are in an impossible spot. Maybe your brother does need to stay with you. Your wife needs so much more than my husband did physically and I know how tired I was holding everything together for months. I wish you the best and am sorry that I can't offer you more than support.

  6. Way to go! Abigail is beautiful. Life can be good. I hope Caroline is a big help. If we don't hear from you as much this coming year, we will know why. Good luck and get as much rest as you can.

I look forward to more pictures and stories.

  7. Welcome! I am sorry you have a need to be here but thank goodness for all the loving support you will receive. Your husband is having such a rough time and I know it is not easy for you. Hang in there. Hopefully your husband will stabilize and start getting better. Let your friends and family help if they offer.

There are many success stories here and I hope your husband will join the club.

  8. Hi Kathy,

Welcome! We have all been through that shock of the lc diagnosis. I am sorry you have a need to be here but thank goodness for this wonderful group of supportive people. The hair loss can be very emotional.

I wish you well with your treatment.

  9. I know many here have said that they feel cold but I believe that is a complaint after chemo starts. I would be suprised if your husband wasn't told to get a brain MRI by his oncologist. They need to know what they are treating.

My husband who is normally very warm kept our house uncomfortably warm this winter while wearing many layers including his coat at times. He does not have mets anywhere else. I believe it was the chemo that knocked him out of wack. Now that he is almost two months post radiation he is back to normal.

I wish your husband much success with his treatment.

  10. Geri,

I am so sorry you have another battle on your hands. I am praying it is early stage with no lymph node involvement. My mother is an early stage survivor. She had a lumpectomy and radiation with no lymph node involvement and that was 6 years ago. She has been given a clean bill of health. I pray you have the same success.

  11. Teri,

I just want to join everyone else in my good wishes for good results from the Topotecan. Your husband has a great sense of humor and that helps so much. I miss his posts. Don't ever doubt your strenth. When necessary you can dig deep and get through the tough moments, which I hope are very few.
