  1. Cheryl,

I've watched your posts for a long time and always cross my fingers for good news from you. I know that you are a fighter and have a great attitude. Recently, you've certainly been dealt a blow. But I see your fighting spirit coming through == you just want to be fighting this disease and are feeling helpless and frustrated waiting for the next weapons!! Hopefully, they will be given to you soon and your spirits will pick up.

Regarding Iressa and let me tell you I'm no expert about it. My understanding is that it is most successful with femaies who were non-smokers. I looked in your profile and do not see whether you ever smoked or not. Somehow, in my memory, I believe you were a non-smoker. I also believe that I have heard that they find Iressa more often effective with people who have BAC or BAC features as you do.

Even if you were a smoker, Iressa is still sometimes effective. I know that because my Dad is a former smoker and that is his next line of treatment. He also has BAC features.

Anyhow, Cheryl, sending tons of prayers your way. Wish I could do more for you. I really do. Many hugs to you too.

Sorry that you're having a rough time of it right now. Those steroids aren't easy to deal with. My son was on high dose prednisone for a month due to very low platelets. He was always starving and I know he worked at it to keep his moods under control. As you know, you're lucky to have your wonderful wife Karen and beautiful little girl. I second the notion of exercise to help with stress. I use it all the time. It does help.

You and your family are in my prayers. I watch all the time for your postings and hope the news is good. Your roller coaster is due for a good long uphill stretch, I just know it.

  3. Francine--

Many prayers and thoughts being sent your way for a successful surgery. Good for you for speeding up the medical system too! The squeaky wheel....

Looking forward to hearing from you after your operation.

    Best wishes.

  4. Oh Ginny,

I sit here with tears in my eyes. I am so sorry for what both of you are going through. The mutual love came through in your post. I teared up when I read about Earl feeling helpless unable to cheer you up when you had tears in your eyes. What can I say? I'm so sorry.

Thoughts and prayers to you both.

  5. They thought cancer had metasticized to my Dad's femur because the PET lit up. As a matter of fact, he was treated as Stage 4 for awhile. Then another CT and no change in the femur, followed by a PET which again lit up. We were told it was very small.... I asked for another opinion from a radiation oncologist as well as a second opinion at Sloan. Final decision, it wasn't a metasticis. Don't know what it was but it wasn't a mets. So there you have it. These sophisitcated tests aren't perfect.

I too am sitting here with tears in my eyes. I can say it no more eloquently than the others. It is a wonderful tribute to your very special Dad and the memories are yours to keep forever. I know your Dad was very proud of you too, his special daughter. The deep love and bond the two of you shared shines through this tribute. I hope you let your Mom see it as well. I know it would mean a lot to her.

    Thinking of you.

So sorry to hear that news and praying for a miracle for Earl. It's not going to be an easy night and I can only send my prayers, thoughts, hugs and caring. So wish I could do more than that.

  9. Hi

My Dad is 80 and has had LC for almost 4 years now. When it all began, he was 185 lbs. but with a couple of operations, chemo, stress, swallowing difficulties..., he lost 20 to 25 lbs. Although most of the time, he has eaten wll, he can't put weight back on either. It also bothers him. He used to gain weight easily but not anymore.

That's all I can tell you.

  11. So sorry to hear that things are so difficult for you and Earl right now. Hoping that Earl can take a turn for the better and get that twinkle back in the eye for this sweet, vibrant man. As Faye said, I wish I had that magic wand.

Please keep us posted and know that we are thinking about you and Earl.

  12. Don,

My Dad had 35 doses of radiation at 79 years of age and I'll tell you, for him, it was a piece of cake. A few months prior to that, he had had chemo and had a tough time with it. So perhaps it was in comparison to chemo. But he was quite able to drive himself to and back from radiation and only towards the end, he felt some fatigue but not a terrible fatigue. By the way, he got few results from chemo but excellent results from radiation.

Best of luck to your mom.
