    My dad has passed

My loving dad passed away on November 1, 2003 due to respiratory arrest. I think that his death could have been avoided if his onc. would have been any kind of a doctor. On Wednesday he went to see his onc. because he was really weak and his chest hurt bad. He was also running a temp. His onc. did a chest x-ray, did not order the results stat so it was going to take a day to read the x-ray. He told my dad that he could treat him at home with antibiotics. I met my mom to help get my dad into the house when that got home from the onc., I never cried in front of my dad but that day I did. He told me that everything was going to be alright . At 2:00 am he stopped breathing. My mother did cpr on him until the paramedics arrived. He held on and fought for 3 days and at 10:30 pm Saturday he died while I was holding his hand. Now my whole world is turned upside down. My dad and I have worked together for over 12 years, I don't know what I am going to do without him. I have never hurt like this before. The onc. should have put him in the hospital on Wednesday when he saw what condition my dad was in. I am already missing him so much. When you are together with your family it gets better but when they all leave you get a lonely feeling. I will post more later. Donnie
  2. My dad was told the same thing, that he was in remission. He kept having pain in the same areas in the bone and his onc. told him that it was not cancer related. After a month goes by my dad could not stand the pain so the doctor did a scan and the cancer is in the same spots that he was told it was gone. My dad still had two more chemo treatments schedule but he was told that they were not needed. We are now in the process of changing onc. and are going to insist a PET scan. When you are told you are in remission and one month later its back is like a slap in the face. I hope everything goes well for you. God Bless Donnie
  3. My dad had a clear scan on 8/18. He is still in bad pain in the bones that had the mets. They started him on Zometa 2 cycles, and he is on Iressa. Has anyone had these same problems? Could this be side effects from the drugs? He told me he is just tired of hurting and thought that he would be feeling better by now. He is in the same pain as the day he was diagnosed. If anyone has any advice let me know. Thanks in advance. Donnie

  15. My dad is currently on his 4th cycle of Carbo/Taxotere, up until this point he has had just slight nausea after the treatment. He had his 4th treatment last Wednesday and is still sick after taking every anti-nausea medicine prescribed. Has anyone had the same? It is so hard to see someone when they are this sick. Thanks, Donnie
  16. Shannon, I am sorry. Our prayers are with you. Donnie

  19. Thank you for the replies. I have read alot of encouraging stories from all of you. Don, I see that you are from Houston, we live on the northside by The Woodlands. Where is your wife being treated at? Again thanks to everyone and I will be praying for you. DJR
  20. I have been reading alot here the past couple of weeks and finally decided to post. My dad was diagnosed on 5/15/03 with lung cancer. It is in his left lung and has met. to his hip. He is about to finish his radiation on the hip and has had only 1 chemo treatment which is Carbo/Taxotere. He did not have any symptoms that you read about. His pain started in the hip and thats how they found it. My dad is 63 and has always tried to live healthy. I would like to hear from people that may be in the same situation and what they are being treated with. This has really devastated me. Please add us to your prayer list and I will be doing the same for all of you. Thanks, DJR
