  1. ~~ Singing ~~ "Oh Christmas Tree"... we bought ours and decorated it not long ago.

Welthy, I'm with you! Sometimes you feel like a nut..... :D:D:D ....(sometimes you don't)!

I've been in the "Nut Mode" for several weeks now! :D

  2. I'm pretty sure this was my first post. I remember being terrified and still in shock at Harry's diagnosis, even though it had been a couple of months. I also remember feeling such a relief to have found this place. I felt I had stumbled across a whole "room full" of people that understood what we were going thru. (I still feel that way!)

"My name is Nova, and we live in Florida.

My husband was Dx'd with SCLC in January.(limited, but not only "inside" his left lung, it's pressing into his ribs on the outside, and is wrapped around the bottom of his heart also... has some nearby lymph nodes affected too).

He's just finished up his third round of chemo today, and has three more to go. (We made it thru the "halfway" mark!)

He started radiation a few days ago. (Twice a day, 5 days a week, for 3 weeks).

The first post I read here, was from a fellow named Don.. it gave me great hope, to say the least! Wow! What a fantastic outlook!

The second post I read, was from "Loretta", stating that although her husband was still with her, she missed him. It made me cry....

I truly thought I was the only one feeling that way... I've watched my hubby lose 30+ pounds, watched his beautiful, head full of blonde hair fall out in clumps, and watched his normally sparkly, huge blue eyes, get so lifeless and dull, that I almost can't recognize him anymore.

I've listened to him snap at me in angry tones, over things I have no control over, and Yeah, I too, want my old life back!

All I can say, is thank you for being here, and thank the Lord I found this place!

Please know that I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers, and please do the same for my husband.

It's nice to "meet" you all,

    Nova"

  3. They're BEAUTIFUL!

I have 3 "available" grandson's, ages 20 months, 5 and almost 7.... maybe we can arrange something..... :D:wink:

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Kids/babies always cheer me up!

  4. It's scary, and I think just about everyone here, (Caregivers too), gets the "heebie-jeebies" when anything out of the ordinary happens.

My very unprofessional guess, would be anxiety attacks. It sounds too much like what I went thru myself, when my husband first got diganosed.

Best to go talk to the doctor and find out. It's much better then waiting for it to get worse, regardless of what it is.

The nice thing is, that if you find out it's anxiety, it can be fixed so easily, and you'll feel so much better.

    Let us know.

  5. I'm SO thankful that I made it thru school, and am now finished with it. The week of clinicals at the nursing home, almost "did me in". (I'm not at all fond of nursing homes). :(

Now I just have to make an appt. to take the State test, pass it, and I'll be set to go back to work.

  6. Patti,

I saw that my son, Jacob, has written on Nick's Blog. It's nice of Nick to offer to share his experiences with others his age.

I also noticed, that regardless of the fact that Jacob has been in a private school since kindergarten, that he left out all comma's, periods, question marks, capitol letters, etc!!!! :D:roll::wink:

That expensive tuition I've been paying all of these years, is money down the toilet, apparently!!!!

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw what he had written! He jumped right into a conversation about football! :D

    BOYS! :D

  7. I HAVE to laugh ~ to survive, and it's very healthy to do so, from what I've read! (Not at inappropriate times, of course) .

My husband is kind of a "Stuffy old Yankee" type of guy, but even HE makes jokes about the mess we're in, thanks to lung cancer.

When I asked him what he wanted for Christmas this year, he said a "one-toothed comb", to be able to keep his one hair looking tidy.

(This is from a man that had the thickest head of hair I've ever seen, before Chemo).

I think you and your Mom are wonderful. God Bless you both!

  8. I'm forwarding this to my 14-1/2 year old son's email address right now.

His friends from school don't understand, because they've not had the experience of seeing their dad battle cancer, so it will be nice for him to have another young man near his age to share with.

    Thanks,

    Nova (and Jacob)

  9. " X-tra " dishes to use for the sweet "taters" that are swimming in Vodka..... :D

(Yeah, I know that's not how you spell "extra", but the fumes of the alcohol here are getting to my brain!!!!) :D

  10. That cracked me up!!!!!!! :D:D:D

It reminds me of the time I called "AOL" customer service, and got "Raj", from India..

We're talking "AMERICA" Online, guys!!!!!! I couldn't help it... I started laughing and asked the fellow if I had the right number. :D

Same thing happened when I called about my "American Express" card!!!!!!

  11. I'm in East Pasco County..... near Zephyrhills.

Please send me a PM if you would like to chat.

Liz13 and I are still working on getting together for lunch or coffee, so maybe the four (or five) of us can figure out a way to have a short visit! (Liz and I spend most of our conversations trying to get a clear signal on our cell phones! I stand on my head on my back porch, while holding the phone up towards the Heavens, and she screams "Can you hear me now?", very loudly..... :D )

    Take care,

    Nova

  12. :D:D:D

Was it ONE guest coming in 30 minutes, or 30 guests coming at once?????

I would need a bigger coffee pot if it was 30. :D

If it was just one or two, I'd welcome them right in... What you see is what you get around here!

I keep the house very clean, but if they wanted to see a mess, all they would have to do is look inside my closets or in my cabinets! Everything is all jumbled and jammed in those!

I laughed when I pictured NYKA and Bobbi running out the door as fast as possible, and heading to the "pub", to hide out til they all went away! :D

  13. "luvmydad"] My son decided he wanted to spend the night with her and went home with her. Sunday evening when we went to pick him up we were shocked out of our shoes....Mom had a Christmas tree up. First time in about seven years. Hunter asked her to put one up and he would help her decorate it.

The power of persuasion (sp?) that some children have!

Reading your post made me happy first thing this morning!

Thanks, and hope the Christmas Spirit continues for you guys.

Today I'm grateful that I made it thru my first day of clinicals for nursing. Only 4 more days to go!

  14. Grateful for my family . It's my favorite sister's birthday today, and she's played a big part in my life.

Also grateful for the nice, warm weather we're having. (near 80!) It's supposed to turn chilly starting tomorrow, so I'm going to soak up the sunshine while I can! I hate being cold!

Jackie, you need Randy to send you some of his warm blankets from the dryer!! (or plan a nice vacation to Florida, as my guest!)

    Take care, everyone.

  15. Hi Aaron,

My husband is dealing with the same problem right now, because of Taxol.

The doctor decided to skip the 6th dose , because he said it was probably building up in Harry's system.

Maybe you could suggest a little break from Chemo to your doctor. ?

    Hope you feel better soon.

  16. My favorite gift was an Easy Bake oven! I loved baking all of those little cakes and brownies!

But the one thing that always stands out in my mind, was the year I was six, and my G-Aunt, who was quite wealthy, decided to give me a gift for Christmas, which she had never done before.

It was a very expensive Shirley Temple doll.

I was terrified of it.. .. It had little teeth, and it's eyes seemed to follow me everywhere I went!!!:D (I didn't let my Aunt know that though! I was very polite, and told her "Thank you", etc.)

I kept the doll until I was married, and finally couldn't take it anymore! I pitched it in the garbage, which threw my sister-in-law, (who collects dolls), into a hissy fit! Dummy me! I could have sold the thing on E-Bay! I had never played with it, because I was scared of it, so it was in mint condition!

  17. Thank you for sharing your poem. That's beautiful.

When my son-in-law first went to Afghanistan,he suffered from major culture shock.

He said what bothered him the most, is that there were sooo many little children running around with no one watching them.

It snowed some while he was there , so they tore up cardboard boxes to use for sleds, then started showing the kids how to slide around on them!

The video he made while there, is interesting to watch. So different then what we here in the U.S. are used to seeing.

    Thanks for the prayers.

  18. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Seems like just about everyone has a family member, friend, neighbor, etc., that is heading to the Middle East.

My son-in-law has been in the Guard for years. He proudly serves, but I feel so sorry for my daughter. She has her job cut out for her, with 3 little boys to handle alone.

She found out the day he left for Afghanistan, that she was expecting Lucas. (our little ATM machine! :D ), so she went thru the entire pregnancy alone, etc. (Well, I was with her, but it's not the same!)

God Bless those soldiers. My heart aches to think of them being stuck there, especially at Christmas time.
