Thanks Katie & Patti,
I will be calling the oncologist tomorrow to get the results to see exactly what was done. I guess I thought a doc may let you know if lab work was going to be SO expensive. Especially when his intial statement to us was "why are you here?" The CT reports basically indicated there was no problem. Unfortunately, Gary was sent to a few different docs and the oncologist was the first one to look at how far back this mass was seen on CT.
Yes Katie, we do have insurance. Gary had a job change in June when part of the company he worked for was sold. We are VERY grateful that he still has a job with good benefits. We are just frustrated because I had already met my out of pocket max for the year and now we need to meet the out of pocket max again with the new ins co.

Hi All,
My husband had some lab work done recently by an oncologist. He was being seen for a mass on his spleen. The doc told us that the mass had been there and unchanged in almost 2 years and he did not think it was malignant. He wanted the CT's my husband had reviewed by another radiologist and did some lab work. He said he would repeat the CT in 6 months, just to be sure, and if nothing changed it never needed to be looked at again.
Today we received the EOB from our insurance company. The lab work totalled $11,480. We were and still are SHOCKED!!! I know this is not related to lc, but have any of you had labs that were SO expensive?
Thanks,

Michelle,
Sounds like a wonderful option. Hope it works well for both of you.

Annette,
Don't know if this helps, but here is my situation.
I have had PET uptakes as high as 7.8 or 8, without it being cancer. Mine ended up being inflammation probably from sarcoidosis. They did rescan me every 3 months (CT w/contrast & PET/CT's) and biopsy me twice in 2 years. Even with the benign biopisies they said that they could not be certain it was not more cancer. After the 3cm mass shrunk by 75% from 6 weeks of prednisone they knew it was not cancer.
Good Luck:)

Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Your family is in my prayers. I love the quote from his obituary. It says SO much about him.
-
Max,
I would try to do whatever it takes to get at least an x-ray or better yet a CT as soon as you can. It may be nothing big, but you will not know until you have an x-ray or scan. Can your employer help you expedite this? Good Luck! Prayers being said that it is nothing of concern.

I do not BUY any cards. I make any cards I want with Hallmark software. It is TONS cheaper and I can personalize them. People seem to like that. I have been doing this for years and if I need to buy a card I just about get the shakes in the store when I see the cost. It is OUTRAGEOUS!

Jen,
Prayers for your Dad (and you too).

Hi Donny,
As of mid June when I had completed 7 weeks at 30mg the PET showed the mass had reduced by about 75% and all my lymph nodes were normal for the first time in 2 years. Today I complete my taper. YEAH!!! The hope is when they repeat the PET mid Sept the inflammation will not have returned.
Today I celebrate not only the normal MRI,but the end of this round of prednisone, or as you say dreadnisone. LOL Can't wait for the side effects to subside.
Hope that your taper goes with ease:)
-
Patti,
Thanks for the welcome to the EMPTY HEAD CLUB! My family would probably say I've been like that for years:)

GREAT NEWS!!! My MRI was fine. He said the smells and headaches are probably from tapering off the prednisone. I actually had more side effects during the taper than at my full dose. Tomorrrow is my last dose. I imagine it will take my body a while to get back to normal:) Thanks for the support!!

Hi Everyyone,
Have had a handful of phantom smells (olfactory halluciantions) and increased headaches over the last 3 weeks or so. I am tapering off prednisone, which I have been on for a bit over 3 months for lung inflammation.
I have had some side effects from the predinsone, so I figured the smells which are kind of skunk like and increased headaches were from tapering off the prednisone. When I told my neurologist friend yesterday, he said I needed a brain MRI and soon. I had MRI done last night.
Question - Has anyone ever experienced phantom smells? If so what were they from? My personal experience is two-fold. My daughter gets them sometimes along with aura when she has a migraine and my son had these and they were found to be seizure from a brain tumor.
Hope to get the results tomorrow, but am a bit concerned.
Thanks,
-
