  1. Well you know my name by my sign on. I have been married to Gary, my high school sweetheart and love of my life, for 42 years. We have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. I work part time (which keeps me from posting as often as I'd like) recruiting people for clinical research studies.

Since my diagnosis and surgery in 2007 I have made my health a priority. My goal is to do 30 minutes of yoga each morning, walk 30 minutes 5 days a week and also do ball and band excercies and hand weights. I have been pretty good at not making excuses and keeping my goal.

For fun we have a 18 foot sailboat and take weekend trips to see our daughter & family in western NY. I am also on the organizing committee for the Metro Detroit Lung Cancer Walk for LUNGevity. I am learning a lot about fundraising.

  2. Cynthia,

Welcome. I had my right lower lobe removed by thoracotomy in 5/07. Dx stage 1a. We are both lucky and blessed to have had our cancer caught so early. You indicated a 7 day hospital stay, so I assume that they doing a thoracotomy not VATS procedure. At stage 1 the chance at a cure with the surgery is very high. Try to make that foremost in your mind. You can send me a PM (private message) if you would like more details about my experience. We will be here to support you.

  3. So sorry to hear about your severe sob. I think checking about pleural effusion is a good idea. I do not have answers, but many prayers are being said.

  4. Judy,

Glad to hear everything went well for you today and that your anxities are over and your 1st chemo done. Now you can enjoy your weekend and your adventure to Walmart:)

My husband will be gone this weekend riding in a Bike MS ride. Hope it does not rain for them. 50 or 75 miles for each day. I give hime a lot of credit. 62 years old and will still tackle this kind of stuff. I will be hanging out with my daughter Lisa and going to a local Art Fair.

  5. Kasey,

I too, am still in some kind of shock about this news.

My prayers are with all of Tracy's family & friends.

    Fondly,

    Barbvh

  6. Kay-Ellen Murphy, 55, of Bloomfield Hills, MI, passed on 26 June 2009. Kay-Ellen was a member of the 2008 & 2009 Metro Detroit Lung Cancer Walk committee. She was the first person I met with lung cancer after my diagnosis. Her positive attitude had a huge impact on me and I will never forget the smile she ALWAYS had.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
