Gosh Maryanne. That brought back so many memories for me. I could walk down memory lane all day when I get started.
BTW... I remember almost all of those and I am not even 60 yet.

Did you smoke?
How much did you give for that?
Now who are they?
Last but not least when someone calls on the telephone (home phone and nit cell phone)....Where are you?

His advice...."have your mom apply for a bunch of new credit cards and max them all out"...basically saying that she wouldn't be around to have to worry about paying them off!
I believe I would have looked at him and ask if it would be OK to send him $10 per month on his bill.

I could not agree more. The place where I worked were all concerned about me when I was diagnosed. The secretary of my supervisor would keep in touch about once a week. I was drawing short term disability from their insurance company. Even the President of the college sent me a card. Turns out that all the office seemed to want was to find out when I was returning. I was there 13 years and received numerous employee of the month awards.I would have worked a while longer but they sort of pushed me off the payroll. I made my mistake by finally saying "I Quit". I have never heard from any of them sience.
The supervisor left shortly after that. I had a master key book at home where I organized the keys to the campus. I called the new secretary one day and ask if she would like to have it or should I destroy it. She said not to destroy it but to bring it by one day and that no one knew the department like I did. She said that I could be an asset to the college if only part time. Well you guessed it....she got the book and 4 years later...no phone call.
I got off subject a bit but my reply to your post is this...A lot of people are "fair weather friends" at times. Once you are diagnosed, they tend to call and be a friend. Once they see that there is nothing more to find out, then they disapear.
I hope you get to feeling better and climb over this hump in the road. In closing I would like to add a little something that was given to me many years ago when I was in school...
True friends are like diamonds,
Precious but rare.
False friends are like autumn leaves,
Found everywhere.

Mom
in JUST FOR FUN
I was shopping at Wal-Mart and noticed a little old lady following me around.
I stopped, she stopped. Furthermore she kept staring at me.
She finally overtook me at the checkout, and she turned to me and said, "I hope I haven't made you feel ill at ease; it's just that you look so much like my late daughter."
I answered, "That's okay."
"I know it's silly, but if you'd call out 'Good bye, Mom,' as I leave the store, it would make me feel so happy."
She then went through the checkout, and as she was on her way out of the store, I called out, "Goodbye, Mom."
The little old lady waved, and smiled back at me Pleased that I had brought a little sunshine into someone's day, I went to pay for my groceries.
"That comes to $121.85," said the clerk.
"How come so much!? I only bought 5 items.."
The clerk replied, "Yeah, but your Mother said you'd be paying for her things, too."

This 80 year old woman was arrested for shop lifting. When she went before the judge in Cincinnati , he asked her, "What did you steal?"
She replied, "A can of peaches."
The judge then asked her why she had stolen the can of peaches and she replied that she was hungry. The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can. She replied 6. The judge then said, "I will give you 6 days in jail then."
Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment, the woman's husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something. The judge said, "What is it?"
The husband said, "She also stole a can of peas.

Where is Don Wood at? Have I missed something?

For those of you that know me from the board. you know where my favorite place is. For those of you that don't know, my favorite place is Dollywood. I love the Smokie Mountain area. It is not necessarly the rides that I enjoy. In fact I seldom ride any of them. I enjoy getting away and enjoy the relaxation. If you have never been to the mountains befor, I urge you to go if you ever get the chance.
BTW, I do get a glimpse of Dolly ever now and then.

I sent an e-mail to every member of the TN House and Senate expressing my disaproval of what the procedes will be used for. I am all for education but I feel if you are going to tax tobbaco, then use the procedes for something related to tobbaco. The Governor has not replied to my mail (and I didn't think he would).

I am still here Ry. I guess I will mortgage the house tomorrow to pay my fines up.

I had my left lung removed in 2003. The doctors tell me I am doing great so far. I think Don pretty well explained my situation also. I will add that my doctor told me that my remaing lung capicity would increase with time. Walking a lot tires me out and I have to rest.

I have a question for you. Is the SSI going to be permanent or is it just to provide income for the 6 month waiting period? The reason I ask this is because with him not having any income now he might qualify for SSI which would give some relief for the waiting period.
To try to answer your question concering work, you can work and draw SS Disability. Check the SS website at www.ssa.gov and search for it. I have the link on my backup disk but don't have it on my new computer yet. I know that with SS you can earn about 900.00 per month and not affect the benifits any. I will send the link to you as soon as I find it.

I found this site while surfing the net looking for hope. I found about 300 (yes 300)loving and careing people. Most of these people are the ones that kept me going forward. Today there are over 3000 members. We have lost several to the disease and others no longer come since their loved one no longer needs us. Then there are those like GinnyD and Standforhope that continue after their loved one passed on.
Why do I come here? Because I hope that I can give that small ray of hope that someone gave me, to someone else. We are like family here and we prop one another up when needed. I only hope that I have helped a few others that are walking this road with me.
Off I Go....
