  1. Morning All! It's been rainy going on two days. This morning everything feels damp but too chilly yet to turn on the Air. The electric bill has been such a treat this year with the AC off a great deal of the time.

With nothing much competing, Stan and I were flipping in and out of the Superbowl from sometime in the 2nd qtr. We watched the half-time show and most of the rest of the game. I was in the computer some of that time. It was nice to be in the loop with most of TV viewing America. I've never been a big Madonna fan but I thought her show was spectacular. Classy too. Liked she brought in other talent.

Will probably goof off a bit this morning since I have to meet the accountant at 1 pm. Have errands to run while I'm in town so I'll reserve my energy. Will try to go a little early with an excuse to stop for a latte.

Judy, I figured out one of the reasons why the Air is slow now. We're not funny LOL. I needed funny yesterday and went on FB to read Becky's humor posts and pics. Big LsOL. We also tragically lost Annette who was one of the funniest people I've met. They were so funny they often inspired the rest of us to interject humor. Wish I could say something funny right now. Hum, can't.

    Have a great day everyone.

  2. Evening All! I've been playing with my new Adobe Elements photo program today. The operative word is "play." So far I'm lousy at it. Anyone remember the recommended # of pixels for an avatar on LCSC?

    On today's Air:

Seeing a bunch of multi-millionaires out on the field crashing into each other, being bad sports by hitting too hard, or grabbing that facemask with malice, is just silly.
Judy, a shameless attempt to draw out the lurkers lol.
,I switch over to the Disney channel which has suddenly become more interesting to me
Now, now Eric, remember good sportsmanship lol.
I think the best thing about Superbowl Sunday is that the Mall and the movies are practically deserted
    Diane, I love this!

Have a good evening everyone. By the way, never hit the arrow back button after your Preview.

  3. Just a cool color I think. We could probably come up with something significant if we put our minds to it. There's the purple heart for bravery--a characteristic of all who fight this enemy. Any other ideas?

  4. Morning All! Don't expect much today since it's superbowl Sunday. Glad Bud said he might or might not watch it--so I can say it's not a girl thing lol. I tried to get into football when Stan and I were young. Even then, it seemed the thing to do. It just never "took" with me.

The worst of my office work is done. I told Stan I don't want to let up too much or I'll already be behind in 2012's bookkeeping. But this week I do believe will be more fun and relaxation than work. I was having such a great time yesterday but honestly was tired by 2 pm. I've really been getting up already tired in the morning after a perfectly good night's sleep. Chemo fatigue or overwork. Probably a little bit of both.

Eric, what will you be doing while everyone is watching the Superbowl tonight? Anyone remember when it was earlier in the day? Stan and I remember a bowl party that would start in the afternoon and it certainly was not 6:30pm before the game started. The world seems to have changed when I wasn't looking.

    Have a good day everyone.

  5. Evening All! I'm going to respond backwards to posts because Eric, that is just an amazing story. Too bad the fish was dead and couldn't enjoy is more than 15 min of fame lol.

Welcome home Lily. Sorry about the cold. Travel often does that to us.

Judy, the lunch with Tom and Tee was great. What terrific people. We ate and lingered two hours at the table. Then we stood and talked by their car. I think we all hated to see it end. I'm sure this will be an annual event if they return to KW. We also suggested we might call and stop and have lunch sometime when we're traveling thru the Carolinas. So glad we planned the event.

    Have a good evening everyone.

  6. Morning All! Hi Bud. Hope you read the morning after a post. It's good to see you and hear you are biking on schedule. Great news for drought relief and wishing you good fishing. We may or may not watch any of the Super Bowl game also.

Looking forward to lunch with Tom and Tee. Stan's been in a funk lately, reacting negatively to everything I say. Hoping being out with people will pick up his spirits. He's been working on repairing the new/old boat trailer he bought to replace the one that was stolen. Think he has a hard time with the fact that things go a lot harder for him physically now--well, he is about to turn 72 for goodness sake!

Have a great day everyone. Will check in later to see if anyone else shows up.

  7. Boy are you up against a brick wall. We've seen this before. All I can say is stay there with her, encouraging her without nagging. Sometimes when the cancer makes it real to them, they come around and let loved ones in.

If she doesn't try to learn anything, there is one thing I would tell her (more than once if needed). Late stage lung cancer is no longer a death sentence. It is often treated as a chronic disease like heart disease or diabetes. With the right treatment, they can keep up alive well past our expiration date. We've had many survivors on this site prove that.

    Keep well yourself.

  8. Morning All! I know some of you will be waiting for this day--last work day of the week and beginning of Super Bowl weekend. Stan and I don't do anything special for SB Sunday anymore. The group we used to gather with have moved or (dare I say it) died. It's o.k. I'm not much of a football follower anyway.

Back to work today. My life should get back to normal next week. That is, at least until the accountant emails back a list of things she still needs. I've given up believing delivering the package means "that's it." I can live with it. It is all about expectations.

Judy, glad you got those bills caught up. There was a brief time in our marriage that Stan did it but I believe in a marriage, we each should do what we do well. Stan's is cooking, maintaining autos, and most of the manual labor.

Have a good day all. If I get time to check back in, that means it will have been a good day for me lol.

  9. he was coughing last night as though something was stuck in his throat, so i gave him salt and warm water to gargle and then some honey. He didn't cough then and slept well.

Take time for a feel good moment when you are able to aid in your Dad's comfort in what may seem like small ways. Restful sleep is huge.

  10. Evening All! I'm late and can't stay long. Am tired after a long but pleasant day. I was showered and chilling in front of the TV around 9 am anticipating going hat shopping and to lunch for my BD. Suddenly someone was at the door and it was my cleaning lady. She said my eyes got big as saucers when I saw her. I wasn't ready. Had convinced myself she wasn't due til next week--Freudian slip??? She graciously offered as a BD present to come on Sunday. Sigh of relief.

Got two cute hats at KMart instead of the hat store. I probably got both for less than I would pay for one at the Hat Store. Of course, I peeked in the window when I went downtown and it would have been fabulous lol.

Salmon on a bed of arugala topped with red and yellow tomato salsa. A fabulous garnish on the side. Wish I could remember what it was. Creme Brule for dessert. The waiter put a candle in the Brule. I waited til he left and blew it out wishing for another BD next year. Am planning on making that wish an annual event.

Eric, I am so excited. It's likely we will meet in Washington. I'm really psyched to see how many of us get to go.

I'm really tired. Back in the office tomorrow. Hope I get it done but not counting on it.

    Have a good evening.

  11. My dear Stephanie, my hat is off to you that you can see the irony and still giggle. What's the majic juice you are getting? I must have missed that. Hope it will give you better days today and tomorrow and the next day and....

It is only 10 past 2 but I am DONE--not really done, just done for today. I can't believe anyone could ache so much just getting up and down from the table to the computer to the copy machine etc. I'm trusting I can finish Friday and Sunday and oh well, if I go til Monday, so be it. I really want to take this to the accountant on Monday or Tuesday. I have a massage on Wednesday and a show with friends on Thursday. I'd like to enjoy that with nothing hanging over me.

  12. Morning All! O.k. guys, chime in here any time now lol. My life is too boring for words. Taxes again today, what else. Tomorrow though, Stan and I will go to the Hat Shop on Duval for a cool summer straw, then practically next door to Antonia's for my BD lunch. (Judy, that's not where I'm going with Tom and Tee on Saturday.) I really need that break before I get back to the taxes on Friday and probably Sunday!

Stan's life is more interesting than mine. He made spagetti with meatballs and sausage yesterday. Fabulous. Today he is duplicating (again) a soup we got in the grocery in CA some years ago. He kept the label and takes it to the store and buys whatever he can find matching or close to the ingredients. Then he just does it! The first time was great, second not so much, and this time so far awesome. It is a tomato bisque. The main ingredient isn't tomato, it's squash. Go figure!

    Have a good day everyone.

  13. Hi Jessica, welcome to the site where no one wants to be. You'll be glad you came, I think. We are a diverse bunch of people, some who come regularly, more who pop in and out. But all of us have a connection to lung cancer. We are survivors of LC, survivors of the loss of loved ones to LC or current caretakers. What that means is instant empathy and lots of hope and encouragement. I am a survivor--3b, I'm told a 4 if dx'd under the new staging system. I'm living life with my dx and treatment for most of 4 1/2 yrs. You look young; I'm old. So you have youth going for you. Glad you have this ALK thing. I don't have a tumor so don't know if I can be tested for it. I'd be happy if I qualified. It sounds very promising.

Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing. I got into your story, great writing but work calls so I need to keep moving.

  14. Morning All! Am going to tape the last half-hr of GMA and get an early start in the office. The bank stmts came in yesterday's mail but am still waiting for Merrill Lynch. Do think I faxed them late last year so oh well....

Am thrilled we have our lunch planned with Tom and Tee on Saturday. We have lunch plans at Antonia's on Thursday for my birthday with a trip to the near-by Hat Shop for a small summer straw. Looks like I'll be hair challenged for awhile. Did I tell you Wendy said I looked like a hairless albino cat in the bathroom of the Hampton in Lauderdale...LOL LOL LOL. A sense of humor is essential in our family.

Judy, don't know of any restaurants where shrimp crawl on the tables. And, in fact, the trees in Duval Square and downtown are more often mahagony, banyans or royal poinciana. Recently they were going to replace some trees removed for a sidewalk and replace them with palms. The neighborhood was in an uproar. It's not that we don't have any palms but the battle cry is "this is not Miami or Palm Beach."

    Have a great day everyone.

  15. Afternoon All! I thought I posted this morning but I don't see anything. Tom, I thought I posted you with the Monday's Air. I've been busy in the office and must have lost my head.

Judy, glad you're comfortable at home with people tending to you. Sounds like sleep is what you really need. Good to have great friends.

Tom, I'm so glad you and Tee can make lunch on Saturday. I was afraid it would be too late in your trip but it would be the best for me. I do think it would be good for Tee if we met. I would have liked to have met a 4 1/2 yr survivor in person when I was starting out. And she can feel free to ask me any questions she wants. We will leave the restaurant in the air for now if that's o.k. We would recommend John's next to the Asian restaurant in Duval Square. It has a tree-canopied outdoor cafe that is delightful. If it's rainy or chilly, you might prefer indoors and there are plenty of those--maybe Chicos on Stock Island if you haven't been there. Or Alonzos, or Turtle Crawls, or Pepe's--no shortage of restaurants lol. Unless you have a favorite "repeat," you might want something new. We live here so we'd be happy with anyplace.

Hi Randy, nice weather down here too but a little cooler today than it has been.

Got to go, Stan's cooking wings and I can't wait!!!

    Have a great day everyone.

  16. Eric, so sorry the ladies are misreading your intentions. I'll be waiting to hear who Mary is.

Stephanie, I wish I could have been as articulate as Eric in his reply to your post on Friday. It just hurt my heart too much. I too am hoping for a meeting in Washington in May so take it easy.

  17. Morning All! Wonderful day yesterday. Went to the Craft Fair and then lunch with four other ladies. Lots of fresh air and outdoor exercise. I came home and vegged and did NOTHING. Except for that rare weekend with Wendy recently, I almost never get a day like that--especially at this time of year.

Glad to hear Judy is home and that Eric isn't slowing his pace. Ginny, I was months before I could sleep on my stomach after that thoro-something when they took the fluid off my belly. I was surprised it took so long.

I'm afraid I need to pay for yesterday now. Stan has three quotes and another job for me before I get back to taxes. I'll need to do some stuff today. Am supposed to have tax prep to my accountant by the end of this week. Not happening. My birthday is this week and that will set me back a day. And I still want to get a shout out to Tom to see if they can work a lunch in Tuesday or Saturday. I try not to schedule things two days in a row especially on week after chemo and we have BD plans for Thursday. If you guys are reading, shoot me a response and we'll see if we can connect. Will be sad if we can't.

    Have a great day everyone.

  18. Stephanie, I did read the hospice link and already knew much of it. I know that hospice can be with you for years as they supported a member of the KW ftf group here. Here's hoping they do the job for you especially in the sense of improving your quality and quantity of life. Am rooting for you big time.

Randy, I had to individually remove a half-dozen or so from three or four sites on Friday. Thanks for the final boot.

  19. Judy, so glad you're going home. Better ask a nurse if a doctor has signed the orders. I remember once having more than a couple of doctors and all wanted me to go home but no one signed the orders!

Bud, so good to see you and to hear you are getting out fishing again. I think of you everytime I watch the weather news in Texas but didn't know if the floods were in your area. Obviously, they slowed your biking down but otherwise didn't adversely affect you and Rose.

I'm trying to take it easy but got stuck in the computer again. Stan and I saw some recipes on the TV at the hospital that we wanted. Sometimes that gets time-consuming. I'm glad I wrote these lines. While I was, I remembered I almost forgot the most important one: Barefoot Contessa's brownie pudding that sounds like a version of a cake I used to make. Yum Yum.

    Have a good day everyone.

  20. Morning All! I broke my computer in the middle of the night rule. Here I am sucked in from 3 am til 4 am. I was just going to do this post now and I hear Stan getting up lol.

Spent my six hours in chemo then had to ride with Stan to pick up my car from the repair shop. Repair bill was $1100--that's enough to floor you.

Been thinking of Alan lately. Has he been on and I've just missed him? Thinking how is Stephanie as well. I usually do a search for all their posts to check when the last one was but haven't had enough computer time to spare lately. Maybe someone can fill you in.

It's an early start. Will stop in later to see any who post. Hope Judy gets to go home. Have a good day everyone.
