  1. Welcome, sorry you have to be here. After coming to this site, I was surprised at how many people did not have symptoms and were diagnosed incidentally to some other issue. That is one of the reasons some of the research is focusing on tools for earlier detection.

I agree that once treatment gets into place, things begin to settle into a new normal. I agree that you should try to put on some pounds before radiation. I think I understood that is in the esophagual area. I believe I've heard that can cause some difficulty in eating. I was tiny when dx'd but quickly put on weight on chemo--too much for my liking but the drs seem to like us a little chubby--fat to spare lol.

I've leave my signature on the bottom of this post. You'll see I'm a adenocarcinoma 3b surving 4+ years. Most of it has been on treatment but living life pretty well.

Glad to hear you had more than one hospital to choose from. That usually translates into having faith/rapport with the onc you chose. Very important. Keep us posted now on how you are doing.

  2. Morning All! I can't believe it's 10 am and I haven't started the office work yet. I've been getting up around seven but just sitting in my chair watching GMA til 9. Not good.

Catching up on email and new posts takes a lot of time. I miss being in cancergrace and FB but I just can't afford any more time in the computer. I'm not only trying to get stuff done but to spend more time in the morning on the porch with Stan. He's grocery shopping today so I'm here early.

Tom and his wife sound like they are having a good time in KW. At least they are eating well, I can attest to that lol. Maybe we'll get to meet. Depends on my post chemo days.

It's four weeks from Monday to my scan and I'm starting my scanxiety early. It's because of weight gain. I know I've been bad since Stan came home from OH and especially the weekend but I've been trying to be good since we got back. Unfortunately, the scale keeps climbing. Of course, my first fear is fluid. All I can do is keep controlling my calories and hoping for the best.

    Have a good day everyone.

  3. Tom, wow, you hit a lot of great restaurants, most I am familiar with. Thanks for the lunch invite but will have to get back to you on that. Tomorrow is chemo day and it's not usually followed by my best days. I'll let you know. In the meantime, have fun!

  4. Welcome. Sorry you need to be here but your Dad will be the better for it. Lots of love and support here as well as shared experiences. The stage cancer you describe is definitely cureable and the follow-up chemo is standard for his case as you describe it. In fact, my sister had a similar dx last spring, finished her rounds of chemo and is doing fine. Let us know when you find out what chemo he will be getting. There is sure to be someone here who can tell you what he might expect in terms of side-effect. We do stress, however, that everyone is different and responds differently. Hang in there.

  5. Listen to Bruce, what he says is so true. It's all so shocking and awful in the beginning. Things do seem to level off when the plan is in place and you put yourself in the hands of the professionals. Let us know when you find out the staging and what treatment you will have. We have plenty of people here with experience with all sorts of treatments. Hang in there.

  6. I don't know how to respond except when in doubt, get a second opinion. If that's not in the plan for your friend, you can take your question to cancergrace.org. They have drs there, among them Dr West who is considered an expert in lung cancer. They are quick to respond and at no charge. They cannot speak specifically to your friend's case be can give opinions on general standards of care for various scenarios, hopefully one closely related to that of your friend.

Sorry for this news, but keep digging.

  7. Afternoon All! Eric, sounds like you had another gala evening out. Ann, I'm loving this weather. I admit to being a little chilly in the morning but basically, it's been great.

Coming in late again. We're playing catch-up after being gone 3 days. The tree got untrimmed today, a little laundry, a little office. All the tree ornaments are packed but the boxes are sitting on the dr table waiting for a package to come in the mail. We suddenly got an infestation of silverfish last summer. Terminex does the outside when we're gone but not inside. I've ordered these silverfish packets before so hope they work again.

Tomorrow in the office is a must--Thursday is chemo and I can't count on how I'll feel after that. Lately, the week after has not been good.

Checked Judy's CarePages and am hoping she gets to get home this week. I went on fb and saw Becky's news--hip, hip, hooray!

    Have a good evening everyone.

  8. Afternoon All! Busy Airs Thur and Fri but you all took off the weekend lol.

I was excited to come onsite and see the survey for the Surivor Summit. I'm talking to my family and friends like it's a done deal. It would be so thrilling to get ftf meetings with my friends from LCSC. It's got to happen.

The trip was terrific. Wendy and I called out for food and spent Friday evening in. The food was so-so but we had a great time just catching up the way you don't seem to do on the phone. The Hampton had a very good hot breakfast bar so that was the deal Sat morning. The show was FABULOUS! I just did not recall how many hits Frankie Valli had--as part of the Four Seasons, as Frankie and the Four Seasons and as a single artist. His story was interesting and the music was great fun. Of course, Wendy and I can't do anything without an adventure so we got lost trying to find the Avenue where we planned to eat. We'd got bad info from a cabbie who took us to the show and must have walked an hour or more to find dinner. Needless to say, I was wiped. But dinner at a Cheesecake Factory (I'd never been to one) was really good. The cheesecake dessert, of course, was awesome.

I've unpacked, run a load of sheets, went over the mail and done some pretax sorting in the office. I'm off to take a shower and crash for the rest of the day. Have a good one everyone.

  9. Cathy, here's hoping those little somethings are nothings. As for the MRI, that is routine. I'm not sure of the time interval, but I have them on a fixed schedule.

Hang in and we'll be watching for the follow-up.

  10. Morning All! My outdoor temp reading is blinking this morning, I just know I am chilly. The doors are open--Stan's home but he's outdoors lol. I guess that cold front came in for me Ann.

Janet, I do know how those computer issues can chew up hours. I got the Adobe Elements before Christmas and haven't let myself get into it yet. Taxes first! My real incentive tho is that I cannot get my new Apple Air Computer until they are done.

Thanks for the update on Steph Diane. I think I'll go to Grace and see if I can find out more. I have a friend who moved to Oregon and loves it. The pics her husband has taken of the wildflowers in warmer weather are awesome.

The cleaning lady had to cancel today so I decided to do my ironing. Now you know I will do anything to avoid the office. Cleaning or ironing, I'd be hard pressed to say which I hate most but I think ironing has the edge. I'm taking a rest now and will finish up a few office tasks when I get up. The guys have been missing for awhile now--Bud, Alan, Eric, where are you? I think Bud was having a scan?? Alan, it's been so long I can't remember. Eric, will assume you are out and about or finally crashing for a rest.

    Have a good day everyone.

  11. Morning All! Well Ann, it is Wednesday now and I hope that list of things you have to do is shrinking.

I feel like I blew my morning and now I am tired. I was talking on the phone to Wendy while trying on clothes for the trip. I found some clothes that were hanging against the closet door and they were molding. That's because my ceiling fan in my close stopped working awhile ago. I just put in a little table fan but it looks like too little too late.

Of course I will take the bus trip if it starts. I'll be honest tho, it makes me a little sad each time now because so many are not here to join in. But now I have to go see how Becky is doing.

Got to go now and deal with laundry I didn't plan on having to do today. Hope I get it together soon. Think I'll have to drink coffee today to keep it going.

    Have a great day everyone.

  12. Morning All! Just checked in on Judy. Sounds like things are moving in a positive direction. Hopefully she'll be home soon.

Now I have to get to my worry about Stephanie. Hope she is doing o.k. Last we heard from her, the whole house including the cats were under the weather. Anyone who has heard from her since then, just let us know that she is o.k. Sorry Stephanie, you know what worry-worts we are.

Have been putting Christmas away--yuk, yuk. I know for most of you that job has been long gone but you know, some of us are a little slow. Stan's been pulling down and putting back up the boxes but oh my, does he have a load of stuff to deal with from his truck. I'd rather do Christmas. I'm doing all but the tree decorations. That will wait til we get back from the mainland. Tomorrow I deal with the paperwork the accountant left in the mailbox last night and last minute mail that needs to go out. And of course, packing. I have to try stuff on before I pack. I never know what fits anymore.

    Have a good day everyone.

  13. Janet, you can add to my KW experience list since moving here again in the 80's--scorpions! Don't get me started on those stories lol.

Wish I was sorting some of these bins in my office. Wish I could blame Stan but they are Medicare stuff I have to go through to see what I might need to keep. Another is all the receipts and stuff from online--what if I need to order something again. So I'm a hoarder too. Thankfully most of his is outside, most of mine inside. I've been working on it but it will take some time.

I'm hoping for a nice low-keyed visit with my daughter in Lauderdale this weekend. We'll see Jersey Boys and hopefully she won't want to do a bunch of shopping.

I'm not as up as I could be today. Not talking much to Stan. It's one of those trips where he comes back seeming to just irritate the heck out of me. He's not his usual self, more his high-handed I know it all self. Not crazy over that guy. Good thing he doesn't show up too often lol. Now I just have to figure out how to thaw after this morning's encounter leading to one of the stupiest arguments on record.

    Have a good afternoon everyone.

  14. Morning All!

Ten years in AZ and never saw one snake - a week in florida and it's giant cockroaches, alligators and poisonous snakes.
Diane, I laughed thru this whole thing. It reminded me of my introduction to the Keys in 1964-65. After meeting the flying cockroach, I was sitting at the table having my morning coffee. Something over my head moved and I screamed. It was a leaf from my hanging plant. Stan told me if I didn't get a grip, they were going to come with the white jackets and take me away. I think the flying ones must be extinct. Haven't seen one in 25 yrs lol.

Stan's home and all is well. He took it well when I put in a special request. After picking up his snack bowl and dirty socks when we went to bed, I decided to wait til morning for the request. After he announced his plans to clean out his Excursion, wash the seatcovers and clean the whole truck, I asked just that he put things away when he was done. Sounds simple, for him I'm afraid NOT. I explained (as women foolishly do since he probably hasn't heard anything after "would you please"), the cleaning lady is coming Thurs and we are leaving for Ft Lauderdale on Friday. Sorry guys, I needed to get this off my chest.

Speaking of cleaning, I have been validated by some magazine (maybe Reader's Digest) article reviewed on gma. Recommendation by cleaning persons is to pick up or straighten up so the cleaning person doesn't have to make piles and can get right to clean. Ha Ha to those who like to irritate me by saying I clean for the cleaning lady.

O.k., I've avoided work in this machine long enough. Have a great day everyone.

  15. You and your parents are so young to be going thru this. Your Dad sounds like many Dads who want to protect their "girls" from bad stuff. I agree that going to chemo with your Dad would be a good thing. And if you can put on that best face, maybe he will accept that you are there to be a support and can handle it. When you can't, you can always come here.

  16. Morning All! My favorite days are ones that follow 9-10 hrs sleep and the sun is shining. It is chilly though and the online weather yesterday left me totally unprepared. Glad I took a sweater to town with me.

Checked Judy's CarePages and R has reported she is resting and doing well. He also said she is breathing on her own and all is well there. I am so glad that problem has been resolved. I was really bothered that a dr would tell her she would likely be on oxygen the rest of her life. We know better since we have people on the site who have had multiple lobes or an entire lung removed. One of my surrogate fathers lived a long life having one lung since he was a young man and he wasn't on oxygen. Judy aced the surgery, way to go!

I'm going to try to take it easy today. Stan is on his way. Difficult to tell when he'll get here. He was in GA when I talked to him this morning. I know it takes about 9 hrs to clear FL and am sure he'll push the whole distance--that's what he does. He'll probably have to stop and take a little "truck nap" so I won't expect him until 8 or 9 pm.

The wind is still blowing which I hate but I'm so glad to see the sun after so many overcast days.

Diane, the problem with those new shows and movies is Stan and I often get 3/4 of the way thru one and say "oh yeah, now I remember this." LOL

    Have a great day everyone.
