  1. Ken All of my best to you in the following weeks. I did good with my lung removal 2 years back, had a round of problems 3 months back but Chemo fixed that up, am now doing great again. Yes I am sorry You have to be here, but there are so many here that can tell you what's going on, just a super cool place to be. Grumpy One Lung in Michigan
  2. Good Morning I had entire left lung removed on Nov: 25 2002 along with 5 nodes being removed and the doctor put 7 stainless steel staples in the area where the lump nodes had been as markers for the radiation doctors. The point being, I was told that I could never have an MRI because of the staples. Did they do that to you? Something for you to ask your doctor I should think. Not ever having an MRI I can’t say any more nor offer any help. My Prayers and Best to You. Grumpy One Lung in Michigan
  3. Hi Hopeful I have been fighting this cancer for close to 2 years (Nov: 25th will be my 2 year date). Left lung removed Nov: 25th 2002. 8 weeks ago I was so down that I thought it was the end for me. I could not eat and was having trouble breathing. I had refused the Chemo for fear that it would kill me. I had felt good following the lung removal so I just said no. Then I got real sick (8 to 9 weeks ago) and my 7 yeat old granddaughter told me one day that I was not going to be here for Christmas and she could not handle that. So I went to the Chemo doctor and told him what was said. I also told him I would not take the up to 8 hours of being druged up, he had to cut the time down some how. He did just that, he cut it in half (the time) by giving me a 1/5 dose of his drugs. I came through that (6 treatments) without any problems along with radiation (23 treatments). No sickness, nothing bad. I was injected with stuff before the harsh treatments to keep me from getting sick or having any of the other side effects and that worked out just super for me. Maybe you could ask your doctor for something like that and it might work for you also, I will know on the 12th of Oct: if it worked for me, thats when I see my chemo doctor for the big follow up of my last CT-Scan (taken Oct: 5th 2004)......... It's worth asking I should think..... I feel 100 percent better now then I did after I lost my left lung, which is an improvement over what I though was feeling good back then. All of My Prayers and Best Wishes to You and the Family. Grumpy One Lung in Michigan

  6. Dave S and to all Others here Alternative and Complementary Therapies are hidden pretty much due to the Arrogant Government and there hand being out to big business daily. So I can understand why so many just can’t or don’t talk much about such Alternative Med’s. I have been told to keep my mouth shut about what I am taking, so it is a bit scary for many I am sure. Now then, if one is put in remission due to some sort of Alternative med’s, and is told that the government is looking over there shoulder, will then what is that person going to do, keep his/her mouth shut. I can tell you (and am telling you) there is help out here and it’s not made by the Big Arrogant drug companies. It’s not sold by any drug store either. It’s not allowed by our own Government either. I take nothing but Organic Food Supplements, “not totally true, I took Ireaas (pill) for about a month, it is now (again) not a part of my daily pill issue. I take about 23 Organic Food Supplement Pills a day, have been since mid-Feb: 2003. I am on two totally different Organic Food Supplement programs at this time. One is to make my body work with on lung. The other is to put my cancer in remission, which is a total of 4 Organic Food Supplement med’s. That’s a total 27 Organic Food Supplement pills a day. There is also a third procedure that one can do and it is a use of the electronics. All of these are not condoned by the Fed: Government, so it is a big ordeal for us to talk about. I was doing my radiation treatment(s) when I started to go down hill, so I called in a very special person I had heard about that deals with Organic Food Supplements and within a week I was back up and running again. Now understand, I was being burned by radiation inside and out, so I had a problem. My herbalist fixed all of that, the tiredness, the itching, the gas-pockets and all of the rest of the problems that can go along with such a treatment. She could not fix my hate for the doctor I had, but because I felt so much better I lived through the doctor hate ordeal. I will answer what ever I can here or as an e-mail to me at: grump3980@comcast.net I sell nothing, I deal in nothing, I only wish and pray for us all to get well without having to wait for our current government, to ok it, (they never will). Best Wishes, Grumpy One Lung

  11. Hi Karen What a wonder it is that you could do so well following such a time at the hands of a doctor. God was with you. I only went through the removeal of my left lung, but I did the food thing also. I ate my way out of the hospital so to say in 3 days, LOL... I was in ICU and woke up asking for food, I got a tray withing 10 minutes and they even got me up and let me sit in a chair. So I can understand how it helped you. Sure is good to have God looking over your Shoulder as he was with me also. God Bless You and all of My Prayers and best wishes to you and Your Family... Grunpy One lung (in Michigan)
  12. Prescription Drug Pricing, July 2002 By Steve Wilson News in Detroit WXYZ July 22, 2002 If you're one of the millions of Michiganders who have to pay out of your pocket for the prescription drugs you need, hold onto your wallet. Action News Chief Investigative Reporter Steve Wilson has the story your neighborhood drugstore doesn't want you to see. Alan Greenspan testified on Capitol Hill bemoaning what he called "infectious greed" that has gripped much of America's business community. You knew about it at Enron, you've heard of Worldcom, Kmart and the others?but even down at your local pharmacy on the corner, when it comes to pricing? Greg Pabb may not be the last honest man in the drugstore business but I didn't find many like him in my investigation of pharmacies throughout Metro Detroit?a local businessman with the courage to confess what he admits is nothing less than price gouging rampant at all kinds of drugstores all across Metro Detroit and beyond. Now we're not talking about the skyrocketing cost of brand name drugs which year after year make the American pharmaceutical industry richer, nor the fact that Americans can cross the border into Canada and buy the same U.S. made drugs for a fraction of the cost. No, we're talking about the drugs we're promised will save us lots of money. How to avoid paying too much for prescriptions? Pharmacists all agree generic versions of name-brand drugs give you the same medicinal benefit at a tiny fraction of the cost of their brand-name equivalents. But the truth is if you're like these folks and paying for your own prescriptions because Medicare doesn't cover it, or you don't have a job that gives you health insurance, or even if you do but your insurance doesn't cover drugs, you may be saving some, but what your friendly pharmacist doesn't tell you? He's putting the lion's share of the savings right into his own pocket and hoping you never find out. It's a fact the industry vehemently denies. But that's exactly where we found it. It's a secret every insider seems to know but virtually nobody wants to tell. We went to store after store after store where a prescription for a generic that costs the pharmacy only about $2 is being sold to many of you for as much as $100, despite their denials. A Closer Look at Cost Prescription drug prices, they're the fastest growing segment of health care costs today, and now we're learning it's not only the big drug makers reaping sky-high profits, local drugstores encouraging you to buy lower-cost generic drugs are quietly keeping most of the savings for themselves. Take Vasotec, which many people need to treat their high blood pressure and heart problems. But now the generic version called Enalapril Maleate is also available. The shape may be different but it goes down just as easy, and instead of spending $76 on a one-month supply of the name-brand Vasotec, wouldn't you be pretty happy if somebody behind the pharmacy counter at CVS suggested you buy the generic for only $61??And buying these got you a 20% savings of $15? only guess what the friendly pharmacist at CVs never tells? That generic the pharmacist recommended and sold you for $61 has a true wholesale cost of less than $6? and CVs probably pays even less for it. While the markup on Vasotec is only minimal, CVs marks up the generic by a good 921%. And CVs is by no means alone. The markup at Walgreens is only a tiny bit less. Walgreens in Oak Park sells the same prescription for $58.19. Some of the independents we checked seemed even greedier. At Birmingham drug? The cash price was about $68?and even though it says Save On Pharmacy, we found Pharmacist Pabb was the one saving the most by charging what he now admits is an "unconscionable markup." Now, we heard them singing the same song at lots of Motown drugstores where the pharmacists claim the big insurance companies are to blame for this because Blue Cross, and the others, just won't pay enough when insured people need medication. In Lansing, Bill Knox speaks for the American Association of Retired Persons, whose members are among those hardest hit by what he says are these unconscionable markups. Insurers like Blue Cross do save millions when their members choose generics because the big players keep an eagle eye on the true cost of drugs. Franz Neibrecht at the Michigan Pharmacists' Association says Blue Cross sometimes pays the pharmacy so little on some drugs, it's members sometimes have a hard time making any profit?A claim denied by Richard Cole of Blue Cross Blue Shielf of Michigan, who says there's just never any excuse for unethical, if not illegal, markups to people not covered with a prescription plan. Generic Prozac is an even better example of what so many druggists are quietly doing to those who can least afford and have no help to pay for the prescriptions they need. A 30-day supply of the generic Prozac is a prescription that costs drugstores just $2.16 or less. But when a month's supply of the name-brand Prozac itself sells for about $100, drugstores like Heritage Pharmacy in Allen Park sell the generic for $92.24?and tell you "you're still saving a few bucks." And now don't focus your anger on Gregory Papp just because he's honest enough to admit it?over here at Birmingham Drug, the $2.16 generic Prozac called Fluoxetine has been fetching $89.59. That's a markup of more than 4,000% for you math fans out there. And Walgreen's is not that far behind at $74.49. CVs and Rite Aid both collect $72.99. Mr. Didur, who works for a corporation that claims to be committed to the highest level of integrity in every aspect of its business, was kind enough to do another price check?but no happier with the result. The truth is no matter where we went, from the big chain drug stores to the independent, to the pharmacies at Krogers and Farmer Jacks, even to the so-called discounters like Meijer and WalMart and Kmart, too, we found to one degree or another, much if not most of the potential savings on generics are going into the till at the pharmacy. It's true on the generic form of Zantac, the popular ulcer drug that costs $7.50 wholesale but has been sold for more than $127 in Birmingham where owner Bill Krasnick told me affluent customers can afford to pay a little more?and Atenolol, another blood pressure drug, that costs less than $2 but is selling for as much as $25.49?and the generic brand of Pepcid, the popular heartburn medication, a $5 prescription that's been bringing well over $100 at a couple of those places where the pharmacists believe the market will bear it. Is their anybody we found NOT cashing in? Martin Peltz manages the pharmacy at Costco and on each and every one of the drugs we checked, it was the pharmacy at Costco that was not only cheaper but dramatically far and away cheaper than everyone across the Metro area. While that other pharmacy is charging $92 for generic Prozac, Costco is selling it for $9. When the chain stores sell generic Pepcid for close to $100? Costco is dispensing it for only about $12

  17. Hi All I have a question concerning Iressa and Insurance. Has anyone been denied payment? I was given a prescription today for Iressa and was told that it was not covered under my insurance. I have very good coverage and just can’t believe that I was refused. HELP. I will be calling my doctor and insurance company in the morning, just thought maybe someone out here might be able to offer me a bit of guidance on this. I refused Chemo today so I got the Iressa instead for a trial run (for me). Then I was refused. Grumpy One Lung (e-mail at grump3980@comcast.net If you wish or on the board

  19. Dean, Shelly and all of the others with Lung Cancer I think you (Dean) are the answer to what so many of us (Lung Cancer, or other cancers) are looking for in this world. You see the entire picture and can understand just what it is that life is all about, (quality of ones life). I for one understand it (You) totally. (at my age of 65 +). But Please, Please, before reading this, I must tell you that I know a lot of folks that have cancer, had cancer and are doing real well on radiation and chemo. So this is not something that most would follow, (meaning my own personal choices in this matter). One friend of mine, I worked with him for 30 years, has been battling lung cancer (asbestoses) since 1989. In his case he has had both radiation and chemo for this entire time span, he is doing very good considering what he has been through. He is the most loving, caring person I have ever know in my life outside of my family(s). I am in the same boat (Lung Cancer) and I was told Monday (Mar: 22-2004) that the cancer has returned. It is in my right lung and liver, (left lung removed Nov: 25 2002). I did go through the radiation treatments because of my family insisting on it, the family thought it was a cure all. They (doctors) did every thing they could to end my Quality of life with their radiation. They also put me down as a person and I was told that I was a 50 year smoker so I was at fault. The radiation doctor refused to talk to me at the time about anything because I refused Chemo right up front at the start. So I had to contend with my cancer, with a hateful doctor and my fears of the un-known at the start. But I did over come all of that, I got better then anyone (doctors and/or family) could have thought I would or could. I can do most anything I did before, I am not sick, I am not down, I am doing very good, But I have Cancer, LOL. Now this returning cancer is another deal for me. I will be talking with the chemo doctor tomorrow (Mar: 25 2004) and that is when I will make up my mind as to what is next. Chemo is out of the question for me, but he may come up with other options, time will tell I think. My out look on this entire ordeal is that my body is so out of wack with what is normal in the first place and that I can’t seem to get that/it across to the doctors. They (doctors) use statistics to explain the reasoning behind what they want to do to me and what they say will be the end result. As you said (Dean) this could take hours to explain, but not hear nor now. Just leave it to say I am (my body) very different then most folks. The doctors I have had to deal with refuse to consider anything I say on this matter, bummer. Oh yes, I did all of the research on the treatments (with a lot of help from my cousin Anne) and it all comes down to the quality of life issue for me. Being burned from the inside out was an ordeal in it’s self (radiation), but chemo is the last word in a total loss of quality of life to me. In answer to others, I am at total peace with my self, bar nothing else, so I fear nothing, I am ready for what ever comes next. I am ready to go meet my maker when the time comes and he calls me. If there should be pain towards the end, then that is my choice and I will deal with it easily as I have tried to do throughout my life. You did such a good job of explaining your feelings (Dean) I wish I could do as well. But here is my story, as told be me, for me and…. My family is not behind me in this at all. They look at it as wanting more of my time here on earth and to help them grow over time. But chemo would end all of that for me, so I am doing it my way, what ever that turns out to be. I do love them all dearly, my wife of 43 years, my 4 sons and one daughter, my 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, but being poisoned is not an option for me. All of my Prayers, Hugs, Feelings and Best Wishes to One and All Grumpy One Lung (from Michigan)
  20. Hi I take nothing but supplements, nothing but HERBAL actually. Once I started radiation I was so down that I had to do something, so the Herbal med's came about. If not for them I would not have made it.... Now I am going to be taking Chemo (starting April 1 2004) and my Herbal med's will no dought need to be adjusted. I have the most cool herbalist in the world, she can adjust my herbal meds at the drop of a hat and has never had to backtrack once. I can't and will not say they are for everyone but they work for me. Problem is finding one that totally understands what it is and how it works, I happen to have found a perfect one. She is not connected to any company nor to any store (CVS, Wal-Mart nor Wal-Greens). Bless Each and Every one of You. Grumpy One Lung
  21. http://www.imwell.med.umich.edu Try looking up this web site for other info on cancer treatment. It's new and not totally what you were asking about. I will not be going here for help. Grumpy One Lung

  23. Good Morning I sent Tammy Faye an e-mail asking her to spread the word about Lung Cancer. As I am sure a few thousand others had already done. What a wonder GOD is.
  24. Hay, it's almost over. What a good deal you have going there, last treatment and all. I have been there and know the feeling to, not fun but it is what keeps us up and running. All of My THoughts, Love and Prayers are with you. Grumpy One Lung (in Michigan)
