  1. Hi Randy,

Come on,as much as I love bangers and mash and shepards pie,you cannot compare them to haggis, its in the premier league.Got to agree with you though about ties in football, some matches as you probably know end in penalty shoot-outs to add to the excitement, however you get 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw,so it still counts towards the prize of progressing to the next round.

Are you able to see the games on TV Randy?.Maybe some day I ll get to try one of your desserts.Really sorry you got to work weekends, hope you finish soon and get sometime to sit back and relax, see you soon buddy.

  2. Good Morning Everyone,

Weather here overcast and warm, been raining overnight the streets are still wet.No Saturday Air?,been so buzy recently I havnt mailed for what seems ages.End of term rapidly approaches, mountain of paperwork to clear in the next two weeks, also to prepare for the move to my new office in the new building, dont know how I am going to like it,it being open plan with all our Design and Construction team all in one office.I will be sad to leave my small office which has been home to me for the last seventeen happy years, its being demolished to make way for the new car park.Oh despite a beautiful new building to move to I dont like change,I am also losing my friend and admin assistant,Rhoda to retirement, I will miss her for the cheery support she has given me all these years.I am also losing two lecturers from our school to retirement. We had a great night out for them on Friday night at a posh place called the Oran Mor,which apparently means joyful song in Gaelic, well we didnt sing, but we had a lovely meal, starter I chose-haggis, mashed potatoes and neeps,it was served on a sauce bed and it was delicious, sirloin steak to follow,if you ever get to this place in the future stay away from the sweet described as steamed ginger pudding with lemom curd,it was so disapointing,a tastless sponge, very dry served with a teaspoonful of vanilla ice-cream,dont ask where the ginger and lemon curd went.

Well the Football World Cup is now underway,I look forward to this every four years, unfortunately Scotland didnt qualify (again).Theres a flag shop in Glasgow who have announced to the public that their stock of Stars and Stripes is sold out,all the Scots are supporting America in the absence of Scotland,I was in Costco yesterday in Glasgow, and I bumped into one of my workmates,we got to discussing Saturday nights match England V USA,

casually asked him who he was supporting,he went into his trolley and brought out a tee-shirt with whole front of it with the Stars and Stripes,ok for anyone out there completely out the loop it finished with a 1-1 draw,I would have loved to have seen America winning, anyway its only the first game lots more excitement to come, watch this space.

My passport has expired,so I got the application form for renewal and my photo taken just in case I hear anything about the China trip?maybe no news is good news.Got to dash now and get ready for ABC,have great day.

  3. Good Evening Everyone,

Weather here driech(wet and miserable)however warm driech.Bud,I didnt know you owned a boat, seems everyone in America owns a boat, even if you live in Arizona?gosh in Scotland we have water everywhere, but I dont own a boat,am I missing out on some fun?.Glad you enjoyed my video,I only hope some young student seeing it,is encouraged to give up the weed.

Hi Judy, hope you are feeling a wee bit better in yourself,I always find early in the mornings is the worst time for feelings of unease to creep over me,particularly I am awake lying in bed, unsuccessfully trying to get back to sleep,if I let it get on top of me I know I could win an olympic gold for worrying. Its such a vaccous emotion,it dosnt do you the slightest good.As Jesus said "Who for worry can add one day to his life".Best to get active on these occassions to distract your negative thinking and soon you will feel much better.I think you will have to give us a proper contemporary description of your family tree, you have so many members coming and going through your house I am completely confused, arent you the lucky one, hope your enjoy the next group of kids visiting shortly.

  4. Hi New MissyK,

Welcome, great to have on board, always a pleasure to have a new person to share life with, the bigger the circle of friends each of us has the better,I always think.I can recognise from your posting a young person full of life, who is coping with the loss of her mum with aplomb, nice you have a brother to share with ,I know you have many happy memories of your mum to take some comfort in.I wish you every happiness with your future and I am looking forward to your future postings.

  5. Hi Maryanne and Joel,

At work just now just waiting to go into a meeting in 20mins thought I could steal a wee bit of work time to wish you both HAPPY ANNIVERSARY (sorry I dont have the skills of KatieB to do something more spectacular, maybe by your next one I will)Pet Scan-oh forget it,it will be a good one,I can feel it in my watter as they say in Scotland.Hope you both will have a super celebration to-night,whatever you have planned.

  6. Hi Judy,

Its 3.04pm just now,I am at work just now and on my tea-break,I have a meeting at 4pm,I was just passing by for a moment to check the mail, and saw your posting, wish I could be with you for a moment just to give you a wee hug,Ill just have to send you a cyber one,I was a bit worried about earlier mail concerning your doctors comments, not that I understood the technicalities of your feedback,The empathy I have with you is almost like whats happening to you is kinda like happening to me,if you can understand what I mean.I am really sorry you have this doubt and fear hanging over you,I know we all live with this daily to a certain extent, and we all fear the peaks and troughs of our emotions,it takes something out the ordinary however trivial,to bring the doubts back.

You know everyone here wants the best for you,and if there was anything we can do to ease your feelings we would do it.Wish I could help you more,I will mail you again when I get home.

    God Bless,

    Eric xxxx

  7. Good Evening Everyone,

Ned you are a real gent, thank you so much in getting my video online, still to see Chris to get my bike and hike pics on site.I understood I was to have a question/answer type interview this morning by the students,so it came as a bit of a surprise to be asked to relate my story, only one take, so I fluffed a bit towards the end,but I did get over to the students what I wanted to say essentially.I hope you could understand my accent, and that wasnt speaking too fast as Scots tend to do.Enjoy the rest of your day.

  8. Hi Ned,

Good to hear from you, posting my pics is now my No1 priority

in fact many of my photo victims thought I was a professional working for some newspaper/magazine,I of course I did put them right.I was requested by the chief organiser if I could assist with their cheque presentation gala evening in October.Apparently representatives from all the recipricant charities attend and a formal transfer of cheques is made, that event in itself is also a fundraiser.I have been asked to prepare a power point photo presentation for that evening, but not to worry as assistance would be forthcoming. So I was able to tell everyone their pic will appear on the October night,I also added that they will be sent to Lungevity in America shortly, which raised a lot of questions about the website,me and my big mouth now I will have to edit my pics and figure out how to attach them to LCSC and also make it easy for everyone to find,Chris where are you?Ned I will sent some to you directly -shortly.

  9. Hi Sue,

This is a difficult time not only for your mum,but the rest of the family as well,I will be thinking of your mum to-morrow when she has her pet scan, and will be praying for her results on Thursday shows no further progression of her disease,in fact quite the reverse. It is great that she can depend on the support of her two loving daughters to help her on this journey,my very best wishes to you all.

  10. Hi Ronvrens,

Great to hear of Pats progress, shes certainly doing well on the food front,a good indicator of getting better.

I am really looking forward to the world cup, particularly since its Africas first time as hosts,I am just so disapointed that Scotland didnt qualify(again). How do you fancy being nominated as LCSCs man on the spot, with your unique advantage of geography on your side,in giving us regularly your inside reflections,in all thats happening in the competition, that would be just brill for me,America v England thats one to watch, dont suppose it wont surprise you that this Scot is rooting for America, yeah, and over 5 million others not counting millions of other Scottish exiles all over the world.

Please pass on my best wishes to Pat,that she continues to make good progress.

  11. Hi Murial,

I hope I have met co-incidently, with your request but since I am reading your posting on Sunday morning,I thought I would reply to you in Sundays Air,I hope you enjoy my ramblings.

  12. Good Morning Everyone,

Its 9 am here its warm but overcast, maybe the sun will break through later.

What a day I had yesterday, the sun shone the whole day, just perfect for my charity hike and bike round Gt Cumbrae.7.30am took a taxi to the meeting point at Cardinal Newmans High School in Bellshill, uncertain what to expect,I was first there, then others began to arrive including my sister Irene along with eight coaches to transport over 300 women to Gt Cumbrae, yes thats right-I was the only male, sis "forgot" to tell me.Boy did I have fun,the ladies were all brilliant to-wards me,I sort of felt I was adopted as their mascot and since I had brought along my camera I was promoted to event photographer.Having set of at 8.30am,we arrived about an hour later at the holiday town of Largs, which is where we get the ferry for the short trip over to Millport.Largs has a long history in the twelth century?,it was the scene of a great battle between the Scots and the Vikings, where the Scots managed to kick the Vikings butts out of Scotland for good, well they were bound to lose,as I heard there were a few lads in the Scots army from Airdrie.

The coaches were relayed three at a time over to the island,on landing I decided to hike,to enjoy snapping my way found, the scenery was beautiful as a backdrop to the hickers and bickers I ramdomly caught in my lens.Stopped for a picnic halfway round, watched holidaymakers on the beaches enjoying themselves, lots of birdlife to see,I really enjoyed watching the oystercatchers sitting on the rocky outcrops on the beaches calling to each other, loads of skylarks darting in an out of the gorse bushes around me,and of course the pleasent conversation of my small group of new friends made a great picnic.

Three or so hours later we arrived at the finishing post the town of Millport, the the coaches were parked along the sea front waiting to receive the foot sore walkers or the butt sore bikers.

Phase two of the event was now beginning,I was about to enter my coach to deposit my racksack, change my sweaty top and socks, when the ladies chased me off, they were apparently already

on the bus in various stages of undress, despite my plea of only half looking by shutting one of my eyes, they were not impressed so I had to sit on sea front bench until they gave me the all clear.Do you know changing took them longer than 30mins,what on earth can take them so long,I was in and out the coach within five mins.Anyway I walked along with sis and the ladies all smartly turned out to a local hostelry booked exclusively for the hikers and bikers, where some great food was on offer and believe or not the girls entertained us with a karaoke session, seems its organised that you really have got to be good to participate, needless to say despite my inclination to join in ,I chickened out.Our group descided to leave after eating, to sit in the nearby park to enjoy the sun,so did many others,I took the oppertunity to move round all the little groups to take their pics, and a short blether with them, what a great time I was having.Coaches leave prompt at 6.30pm,bit of time was spent by the organisers to round up all the stray sheep, sorry ladies, but we all made it,you know despite it being early evening the ladies had been imbibing, and spirits were a bit high,sing-song time and a lot of laughter, yes you ladies certainly know how to have a great day out.Iam going next year? god willing I wouldnt miss this one out.

Oh,each year one bus is selected, where every passenger has to have a dressing up theme, well I am an official Sumo inmate now and our bus was selected.Dont no what the theme will be but God please dont let them choose something feminine,I would just die I they chose something like ballet dancers, and knowing my sisters sense of humour, thats just the type of ordeal she would love to put me through.See you later, going to get ready for ABC.

  13. Good Evening Everyone,

Weather to-day couldnt be nicer, warm and sunny, too bad I had a class all day to-day,hope this continues for my hike and bike to-morrow.

Took my second year class on a tour of the second phase of the new build this afternoon,we have just accepted the handover from the builders, the building is just spectacular, wish I was just starting my teaching career rather than it coming to an end.I also got introduced to-day to a new educational toy by the computer technician a thing called a smart table (apparently Bruce its manufactured in Canada-wave the flag)Well I have been using a smartboard for about a year now and its impressive but this gadget is something else,no mouse required the glass screen table top is touch sensitive and the things you can do with it are amazing,so if you have any young kids in your family and have a spare $6000 in your wallet/purse,and an ambition to turn your kids into Einstein this one is for you(no I am not on a commision)

Bud 95F how can anyone work in these temperatures, enjoy fishing with your daughter to-morrow,I think the fish are gonna be diving deep with these temperatures.

Judy, there is a motorway intersection just outside Birmingham which is nicknamed Spagetti Junction, well thats what I have behind my television in the lounge,so I know where you are coming from.

Judy in MI,look life is too short to be wasting it doing laundry, get yourself down to the driving range and get some time in with a driver, irons and pitching wedges and then go join hubs on the golf course.Did I tell you the story of me getting a hole in one in a four ball outing?I am always dying to relate this one to anybody who will listen,I have run out of friends here in Scotland to hear again.

Bruce, hope the ice melts for you,I loved the film Grumpy Old Men,with Jack Lemmon and Walter Mattheu fishing through the ice-holes it was so funny.Cannot believe you getting such temperatures so far north, are you not inside the Artic Circle? better get the sun screen on.

  14. Good Evening Everyone,

Let me first thank everyone for their good wishes, following my x-ray result, much appreciated.Weather to-day warm and sunny but has clouded over a bit to-night.

Judy,I do read the posts daily, although I dont always post, unless I have more nonsense in mind to stretch your patience with.I hope your chemo to-day went well to-day with the minimal to no side effects, sorry about your family not visiting,I know how much you were looking forward to it,maybe they can reschedule soon?

Hi Bud,I was just thinking about my 11 mile cycle jaunt round Gt Cumbrae on Saturday, when I read about your recent trip-134miles,

gulp-no wonder I feel a bit crestfallen, think the only way I could manage that on a bike would be me holding onto the tailgate of a passing truck, here thats just given me an idea for Saturday.

Bruce, welcome home, missed you, nice you can now bask in some warm sunshine, yes daylight is stretching in Scotland also, though not quite to 24 hours, you are a few degrees latitude further north than Airdrie.

Ned have you settled back into your home now?,thanks for the interesting infro on Pearl Harbour Day,it is a shame that divisions between nations lead to conflict, when most of us would rather just be friends, always thought we should just send off our leaders to fight each other and leave the rest of us at peace.

Judy nice to hear of your new dog,I wish you years of taking her out for walks in your beautiful countryside. Our cocker spaniel Sam died a couple of years ago and I would love to get another, probably will when I retire.Good to hear you are getting to grips with these muscle spasms, hope they get to the root cause and find a good solution.

  15. Thanks Stephanie for your good wishes,Iam certainly no Bud (yet)but I am biking round Great Cumbrae on Saturday in aid of cancer charities, being accompanied by my wee sister and her friends, hope to beat the £29,000 they raised last year, given my current fitness level I may be on all fours crossing the finishing line.I have read the circuit is only 11 miles but I have no clue as to how steep the hills are?

  16. Hi Barbara,

Welcome, sorry to hear about your Dad,as you can see from the other buddies here everything isnt black,my wish for your Dad that he becomes a long term survivor. It is such an upset for carers, particularly as in your case uprooting your home and family to be closer to your Dad ,it can also be frustrating sitting on the sidelines wishing you could do more for him, just remember to look after yourself and enjoy the times you can share with your Dad.

  17. Good Evening Everyone,

Mailing from my work just now,a few times during term senior staff get to be principal for covering evening classes, really just an insurance that all classes have their accommodation slot available, and a lecturer to go with it and to deal with any items which may arise during the evening.Usually this means a quiet night to get on with paperwork or even to-days air (well it is my teabreak) I am here until 9.00pm.

Forgot to mention yesterday I had a hospital appointment with my respitory doctor, who sent me for an x-ray,result given to me during feedback NED-yeah-next appointment 7th Dec 2010 (Isnt that the anniversary of Pearl Harbour)hope there will no surprise attack on my body that day.Still got to see my onc on the 19th of October approx the 2nd anniversary of my dx,then to blow that raspberry at my own GP.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day.

  18. Hi Murial,

Nice to hear from you,I am lucky in having Friday and Monday off work as a bank holiday, most office workers in Scotland only get Monday off,I wish I had the skills of Ned in attaching pics with his postings,my daughters boyfriend Chris can assist me in this task, just the problem of pinning him down.I will post some in ASAP.I have found Glasgow Necropolis in Google,no doubt the other sites are there also, also try the Burrell Collection, this is a museum gifted to the people of Glasgow of his art collection he collected over his lifetime, from every part of the world, some of it very eclectic, but interesting just the same, the Burrell Collection is housed in a purpose built museum built in Pollock Park.

Judy, good to hear about your family visit in two weeks,I just know everyone will have a terrific if hectic time, especially with the kids, bet youll be resting up a bit after theyve gone, how long are they staying?

Donny I share your interest in military history ,particularly WW11,nice to know to-day is Memorial Day in America,we have such a day in November 11th.at 11am to co-incide with the ending of WW1. It is a moving tribute to all our service men and women who have served our country over the years.

  19. Good Afternoon Everyone,

Still enjoying bank holiday weekend, just finished cutting the grass, got rid of the electric mower, and bought a cylinder push type mower,to force myself into taking more exercise,it has certainly worked,I am feeling completely exhusted, but I know will benefit eventually,or have a heart attack in the process.Weather this morning sunny with blue skies, clouded over somewhat this afternoon, but very warm, think I will sit out the back garden and have a quiet read.

Decided to have a day out by myself on Saturday with my camera, weather cloudy but dry and warm, went into Glasgow and did the tourist highspots,Oldest House in Glasgow, the Cathedral, the necropolis which is really worth seeing,an old Victorian cemetry, where the elite were buried in over elaborate cripts and vaults to protect them from the resurectionists, who could carry their victims to the nearby Royal Infirmary? The necropolis is still in use to-day but I am assured the Burke and Hare types are gone.Drove over to the newly restored Botanical Gardens, however coundnt find a space for the car anywhere near the gardens,so had to give it rain check, went onto Kelvingrove Museum and Art Galleries, just also had a £50 million facelift a couple of years ago,and is looking great.Took lots of pics inside and outside, maybe get Chris to help me sent a couple to you online?

That completed my day, must take in another day to visit some more sights.Hope everyone is feeling good and enjoying the holiday.

  20. Hi Marshall,

Just catching up with recent mailings, well great story to start off with-thanks,great to hear your mum is doing so well, please pass on my best wishes to her,and yourself doing so well at Uni,well done, sorry about the calculus,I did struggle with that branch of maths nearly forty years ago myself,Iam sure you will nail it next time round. All the very best for your remaining studies.
