Hey Shirley, Chris!

Shirley I agree w/ Chris especially w/ the weather and your dads' possible fatigue. I know that this weather has been real tough on my husband, I just think it's all the accumulations of chemo and radiation and all the drugs he is currently taking, along w/ his blood cell counts and his sugar levels. Does your dad go in for regular blood tests, I know my husband is every week, because they might want to check some different levels, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary if he has some low levels of certain things ( too many things to test for in the blood), but it may be a possibility.

And yes, it does stink with all this waiting and waiting, phone tag stuff. My thinking is that w/ big hospitals they are so bogged down by sheer numbers that they lose the personal touch. You know even though Boston is a pretty big medical city, alot of these specialists know one another. So my thinking is that if you don't hear anything by Fri. you should try to see if you can personally talk w/ your dads' onc. to see if she can directly get this taken care of. I know that w/ my husbands' onc. he knew the onc. in boston, so it definitely helped .

...and Chris....I was thinking about you and all this wild weather out west...was it as bad as I saw on TV? ..but I take it you weathered the storm!! :o

..keep in touch

Grace

Just wanted to Thank You Ladies for supporting me and giving me words of encouragement. It was so hard doing it all by myself. I'm so lucky to have found this site.

I'm definitely going to keep on the people just so we can get an apt for the mapping for cyberknife. My goal is to get an apt by Friday.

My father had his blood checked on 6-27 and it didn't show anything out of the ordinary. I'm praying that it's nothing. I'm just hoping that everything has stabilized. My new concern are the brain mets - I'm hoping that gammaknife got the 3 lesions but now I'm concerned that new mets have developed. I'm just a bundle of nerves and paranoia sometimes.

Toodles,

Shirley

Good Morning Ladies,

Grace, right here where I am, the weather was not too bad. We had a lot of rain, downpours in fact, (I can attest to them, every time I stepped out the door it happened. LOL. I was getting a complex!) We were lucky though, that was the worst of it.

Shirley I told you Grace would have some good suggestions. I think, and this is only my opinion of course, that I would call the oncologist and mention all of your concerns and ask for perhaps a new blood workup, just to err on the side of caution. It has been a couple of weeks since he had that done from what you have told us and it certainly could not hurt. If nothing else it will put your mind at ease.

I am a firm believer that this disease causes us on the caregivers end to suffer the side effect of nerves and paranoia. I know every single time Brad had any ache or pain I was online researching each and every potential side effect of chemo and the disease itself. Just a funny for you, he was telling me one evening that his shoulder hurt and I was BESIDE myself thinking OH NO, what could THIS BE??? I began my normal barrage of questions and he finally told me to hush up~ then he told me he had bumped into the truck door trying to close it without spilling his cup of tea or dropping his other papers etc when he got to the office for work. I guess the door had begun to close and as he went to give it a final shove with his shoulder it caught him and oh geesh! It was one of those rare moments that we could laugh about my obsessiveness lol Anyway, moral of the story I guess is that although the cancer is ALWAYS the first thing we come to blame for the assorted aches and pains etc, sometimes there is, indeed a very innocent explanation.

On that note, keep leaving messages and do not back off from that. I do like Grace's suggestion that maybe the referring dr could make a quick phone call and make this go a bit quicker, too.

Have a super day ladies, as always you are in my thoughts and prayers and sending positive thoughts to you both~

Hugs

Chris

Knock knock?

Who's there?

Guess who?

Guess who scored appointments?

Here's the timeline of today's cell phone minutes that were used during non peak hours:

1) Brighams called and the CT tech said that he had called me 3 times (3 times in a row mind you) yesterday but didn't leave a message. I told him that I saw but the number came up unlisted. He had asked someone else to give me a call and to see if they had - um that would've been a "no." He offered me a time July 25th initially for an interview with the radiologist and then if we can schedule an ablation date. I explained that the referring doc had mentioned that they may be able to do a combo of ablation and cyberknife. The tech said that he knows nothing of that and to see what the radiologist had to say. I was pretty upfront in regards to me working wiht Beth Israel too and that I'll prob just take the earliest procedure date that's offered to me. I asked if he had July 18th (they only do Tuesdays) and he said that he didn't think so. I asked real nice for him to double check. Low and behold there was a slot open for July 18th.

2) Beth Israel called me back and said that she has an appointment for us to come in on July 20th at 7 am to do the seeding. She told me that she got all my messages but she didn't want to call me back with no news and no apt.

I told my parents about the two appointments. My mother had me talk to my father and he would like to go with Beth Israel. He is absolutely in love with the hospital- which is great. He's convinced that all the best doctors work there. So, seeding it is on July 20th. Now I just have to cancel the Brighams apt.

I also need to call the doc from Commonwealth since my father wants to dump the doc from New England Medical.

Thanks for praying for all the appointments. They were definitely heard.

Toodles for now,

Shirley

Hello Ladies,

No updates today really. Only thing was cancelled Brigham's appointment and let the secretary know at Commonwealth know that we had chosen Beth Israel for cyberknife. Her name is Nimi and she is such a sweet lady. She called to see if we were all set since she is going on vacation next week. She also left a message for Dr. Mulvey saying that we were going to dump Dr. Haluska.

Anything new and exciting? What does everyone have going on for the weekend?

Hiya Shirley

No news is sometimes the best news! Sounds like things are going smoothly for you at the moment, so stop worrying for a day or 2 and relax. Nimi sounds like a sweetie. So nice for you, in light of everything else you have been through.

No plans here for the weekend, how about you???

Quick update.

I posted this on the "General" sections but the update is that my father's been having fatigue in the legs and yesterday he had bone pain so he couldn't sleep. Ugh ugh ugh. I'm so afraid of every ache and pain cause my mind is always run to "Oh no is this it?"

Thoughts and feelings ladies?

Hey Shirley

Well it certainly would not hurt to phone the dr and run it past him/her. This still could be residual effects of the chemo and all the other drugs and I still have to wonder if this humidity and heat is playing havoc with him. Even being inside with both a/c units on round the clock the sticky, uncomfortable feeling is just unavoidable. It HAS to be worse for people like your dad with the cancer to contend with as well.

Just my thoughts of course. I would still run it by his doctor.

How is your toothache and how was Kenny??????

hugs

Hi Chris,

I ended up having a root canal yesterday. I need to get fitted for a crown next week. Everything is so expensive.

Kenny was awesome - as always.

What's new and exciting with you.

P.S. there's no AC at my house so maybe that's it. I'm hoping it's just residual effect from chemo like the tingling in the fingers.

Oh Shirley

OUCH to the root canal. But at least the worst is over now. The crown should be a breeze.

So glad Kenny was as awesome as always. Did you run off and get married?? lol Sorry I could not resist

Not much exciting here. Meg has been in and out of the ER and Dr office with some tummy issue. It appears now she has an ulcer? UGH! Aaron is still here, not much of a vacation for him I'm afraid but he claims he is just happy to be here with us. I hope so! We MAY try the mall tomorrow depending on how Meg is feeling. Pray and cross your fingers!!!!

Catch up to you soon, I promise. It should get quieter here by the end of the week....

Hugs

Hey,

I'm definitely going to call the doc tomorrow. People that have posted on the forum said that they had experienced bone pain when there was a met and Don said that it could be a blood clot. Argh argh argh. (a little variation from ugh - getting sick of that grunt)

Argh argh argh again on Meg having an ulcer. ER and docs are definitely not a fun way to spend a vacay, but it's all the better when you're boyfriend is there with ya.

It is absolutely thundering and lightening out there. I hope a little rain gets to my little garde down the Cape. I hope it survived the heat wave.

I need to head home tomorrow after work. The seeding for cyberknife is Thursday morning. No need to be praying to the Parking Gods, there's a garage that's going to ultimately take advantage of us and screw us of our money.

Please pray that the bone pain is from residual chemo effects and nothing more - I had a little break down today before dinner. Seems like so much negative news sprinkled with very little to no good news. Please pray that the seeding goes well.

P.S. The root canal didn't hurt at all. I've heard horror stories and was so scared. I hope the crown goes well, I'm just so afraid to pain. There's something about dentists that strike fear in me.

Let's hope that I have time to go online tomorrow during work. I'll definitely update Thursday night when I get home. I'm on duty til 1 am. Yucko. Again, prayers are always welcome.

Ciao,

Shirley

Hey Shirley

You know you have my prayers for everything, but a couple of extra for the seeding. I will be anxious to hear how that goes.

I think the call to the dr is in order. I did read the replies in the other thread and I agree. It COULD be something, but I am hoping and praying it is nothing. All the drugs he has taken and been given are bound to manifest themselves somehow along the way. I am praying that the heat and humidity added to that is what he is experiencing but by all means I do agree the Dr needs to know what is going on.

I have had only one root canal in my life and like you, I was scared out of my mind! All the horror stories were enough to almost make me want to just live with the toothache. But, other than that stinging shot of novocaine, the pain was non~existant. Sometimes well meaning people just make it so much worse!!!!

We did not get a single drop of rain or thunder or lightning last night. It was just more hot and humid but I rather like it. Guess I am in the minority there! lol I am hearing it is supposed to get better now, so hopefully for all those people that are miserable with this, it will.

Meg is doing ok now. Not 100% but the meds seemed to help some. Have to see what today brings. Cross your fingers that we can maybe get out and do something!!!

Ok, tons of prayers for the seeding and we will be anxiously awaiting your updates!! Call if you need me, I will be around either home or my cell....

Hugs and prayers!!!!

Chris

Hilo,

Seeding update. And to think that everything in my garden was already seeded. Hahahahaha

Well the nurse that was taking care of us was great. So let's give a big shout out to Martha. The seeding went really well. The nurse said that people usually tolerate it well. The seeding was compared to a biopsy but my father said that he's no in any discomfort at all. He was even able to walk to the parking garage with us - it may not be too significant but I parked in the wrong Beth Israel garage and it was a good few minute walk.

As for the leg pain. I called the doc on Wed just to give her a heads up of what is going on. She said that she isn't too concerned because his legs aren't swollen - this was in response to when I asked if she thought it was a blood clot. She also said that she's not worried because the pain isn't consistent and he's been feeling better. My father also said that it usually hurts when he squeezes his thigh muscles. He also thinks that it's due to all the people watching and walking he's been doing at the casino. The doc did say that if he has bad pain again to call and schedule something for that day. Regardless, we're going to see her after the whole cyberknife visit is through.

I'm anxiously waiting for the crown. What is that like?

Hope everyone had a great day,

Shirley

Oh Shirley

awesome awesome awesome!! I am so glad you called about the leg pain and the doc was not too concerned. I am so happy the seeding is over and that he was feeling up to making the short walk to the car. Great signs! I had you on my mind all day today and was hoping things went well.

I never had to have a crown so I cannot help you much from first hand experience. A friend of mine had several done and she never complained so I presume that there is no big ordeal involved there. Hoping not anyway! I will pray to the tooth fairy for you though! lol

Ok, I am beat and since Aaron is back in Boston with his sister and my house is regaining something that resembles normal, I am going to crash !

Thanks for the super update and I will catch up to you soon~

Hugs

hi all

Shirley, I'm glad to see your dad is finally getting into treatment. It sounds like the onc. at Common. is doing a very good job.

I know exactly what it is like for a root canal, not exactly my favorite thing to do, but the crown part is the easiest!

Chris, I hope everything is going well for you, you said your BF was down from Canada? Is he still visiting? ....

Hi Grace

LOL well my daughters boyfriend was here from Canada but he left today to spend a couple of days with his sister in Boston. LOL Not sure my husband would appreciate my having a boyfriend, although I think there are days he would gladly give me away! lol lol

I love the kitty! Been trying for a while to get a pic of Bradley as my avatar but no matter what I do it will not work. I gave up lol

Hope all is going well with your hubby..

See Chris how out of it I am!!! lol....I got cobwebs in my brain...

you know I finally figured out how to get a pic after all this time. I have "Photoimpression 4 "..or if you have something on your comp. that can resize your pictures. thats what I did with my. I think the pixel size is 150 - height by 225 width for posting pics here.

then i saved it, in a folder and when I when to my profile on lcsc I browsed and found and clicked on my pic. so I am not computer literate, but it did work so I think the key is to resize your photo to fit and then you can add on profile..

I hope you can understand that :) .....

Thank you Grace!

I am going to have Meg (My daughter) have a look at it and see if she can re~size the pic for me. I am so completely exhausted tonight that it was getting frustrating and I thought it best to walk away from that before I tossed the puter out the window! lol

No worries about the cobwebs. We ALL get that way, me more often than not lately, lol.

Thank you for the insight and hopefully sometime tomorrow I will be able to get a pic on here.

Hugs!

Hi Ladies,

Everyone is sharing pics of their cute pets. I wish I was more technologically savvy.

Grace - Your kitty is cute. I don't think that it would've gotten along with my hamsters Marshmallow and Jelly-Filled. Just a momma's intuition if you ask me.

Chris- I laughed out loud when Grace referenced Aaron as your boyfriend.

Night,

Shirley

Good morning Chris,

I'm glad you figured the pic. thing out. Brad was a very handsome young man, I can so understand why you are heartbroken, this disease makes no sense at all. Especially when it takes someone so young.

Well I'm glad at least I gave you a good laugh about your daughters boyfriend :D .....

I'm off out in the rain.....take care!!!

Grace
