    Patti B

This is a message from Patti's son.. Hi everybody, this is Nick. Patti fought for 4 and a half years, roughly 1,680 days exactly. Her only wish was to see me graduate and she was there, I felt like the luckiest kid on stage and I think she felt like the luckiest mom. But around 3a.m. this morning she finally stopped fighting. She won her battle with lung cancer. She accomplished so much and helped so many people. She is truely an inspiration. I have lost one of the best friends. My heart is broken. Christine

  3. Although I have not been on this site in some time, I wanted to just add one thing.... Eileen, sometimes it is not WHAT we are saying it is how it is presented. I do believe that nothing you said was said maliciously, but yet it was probably perceived that way. This is why I am not here anymore. I love the people here very much and I think of them and pray for them each and every day. I never ever meant to hurt anyone on this site but through my desire to help offer support and hope, my words were taken out of context by many here and therefore I have all but left this site. On the main subject of this thread.. I fully believe, and this is through my own experiences as a caregiver and family member, positive attitude and outlook make the journey itself more bearable. Warmly Christine
  4. Will Thank you for your appreciation. I sincerely appreciate it Christine
  5. Patti I did find that I had to register in order to post a comment but it is a very simple thing and to me, it was worth the few moments it took to do so. Thank you so much for always being such a great source of support. C
  6. As many of you know, Red Sox commentator Jerry Remy has recently made public his battle with lung cancer. This letter to the editor appears in today's Boston Globe and is written by a young woman who lost her Mom to LC recently. I hope you will all take a moment to read the letter and post a comment to it. It's a great way to be heard and show some support for the fight against this disease. Remy's diagnosis brings lung cancer into the open May 9, 2009 Email| Print| Reprints| Yahoo! Buzz| ShareThisText size – + I WANT to commend Jerry Remy for coming forward with his lung cancer diagnosis. It's rare for public figures to admit that they have lung cancer because it's a disease that's thought to be "self-inflicted." Famous patients open themselves up to harsh criticism for "bad habits" (i.e., smoking), and I applaud Remy for being brave enough to share his diagnosis with the world. What people don't know is that most lung cancer patients have either quit smoking, as in Remy's case, or never smoked in the first place. In fact, one of the fastest-growing groups of lung cancer sufferers is women who have never smoked. But does it matter if someone smoked or not? Cancer is never caused by one thing, and whatever the "cause," lung cancer patients deserve only our compassion and support for a terrible illness. I lost my mother to lung cancer 17 months ago, and with Mother's Day approaching, I miss her terribly. Reading Remy's story brings her closer to me because she shared his courage and strength. She would have been proud to see him telling his story to the world. Julia Gaynor Charlestown http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/edito ... _the_open/
  7. Posted: Fri May 08, 2009 1:44 pm Post subject: Food for Thought - As Posted on JFF by MsC1210 Please don't move this.. I feel it deserves to be noticed and this is the only forum that gets that kind of traffic. Christine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off,she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.' This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations. Life Is a Gift. Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak. Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat. Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion. Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went too early to heaven. Before whining about the distance you drive - Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job. And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.
