  1. Ok, dad called. He said they drained about 12 oz of fluid off. He said the doc told him he might've nicked a vein, becuase he saw a little blood.... So, tomorrow when they take out the drain, he wants a surgeon there with him, just in case.. :( She's awake and doing good otherwise..

    Thanks for those prayers!

    Christy

  2. Does anyone know how long this procedure takes??

They were just doing the needle thing. She was getting her gown on at 7:30 this a.m. and I still haven't heard from dad and he doesn't answer the cell... :( ughhh..

    Thanks for those prayers!

    C.

  3. Mom is having that fluid around her heart drained this morning. She'll have to stay over night and they'll send it off for testing.. Monday she had another sonogram and there's even more fluid than before.

Please pray it isn't terrible news...

    Thank you all!

    God bless,

    Chisty

  4. Thank you all! I figured it was about time for an update! :)

The job is going great. I love it. I had three pts, but one lady passed yesterday, I had only seen her twice, she had copd..:(

So, I still have my grandma, who has good days and bad days, as well as my other guy, who is doing the same. :) I so enjoy visiting with and encouraging the families, as well as making my pts comfortable.

Thanks for the continued thoughts and prayers!

  5. We, well, my mom, is actually going through that right now too. We've had bad weather/ice storms, so they still haven't gotten anything done about hers yet. She went today for another sonogram, to see if the fluid was still there, and it is. So, she should hear from the doc tomorrow to discuss what they're going to do about it.

    Prayers for us all,

    Christy

  6. Well, she hasn't had any chemo or radiation for a year, no real meds to speak of either...

And her cancer marker keeps going up, and they've never found out why either... :(

Thank you for sharing and your thoughts and prayers.

wow, randy, that was a lot of fluid they drained off... I can only wonder how much mom has..

She has been sob and tired a lot too..

    C.

  7. Have any of you ever had it and was the fluid tested... and was it cancer??

It's too far out to be radiation related...

She saw the heart doc today. He said he needed to consult with her Onc to decide the best way to handle this. He said they could do a needle, withdraw some fluid and test it; or they could open her up, get a sample of the tissue around the fluid and test it... But he seemed to want to prepare her for the worst... :(

So, what are your experiences with this?

    TIA!

    God bless,

    Christy

  8. My dad's cousin owns this home health place, well, they just added hospice to it and needed an aide so they called me. I went to their office today and got all the stuff I'll be needing, and have much to read and papers to fill out!

It's funny how He works it all out, cause I was feeling pulled towards doing hospice.

NOW, I'm SCARED! Well, you know, the whole newness of it all, meeting the people and meeting their needs, all that good stuff! So.. keep me in your thoughts and prayers too cause I'll need 'em! :)

Now, the sad thing is, I only have two patients at the moment and one of them is my grandma... :(

    She's going down so fast...

But I am very excited about this new journey I'm about to go, which includes helping others on to their next journey as well...

I know many of you have had to use hospice, so please feel free to share with me ANYTHING you think I need to know that would further help me to be a good caregiver.

    ((hugs))

    Christy

  9. Maryanne, no, actually my uncle and grandma are my dad's brother and mom. They've sent grandma home with hospice and say she has alzheimer's. :( I'll be helping care for her.

    My uncle starts chemo tomorrow.

My mom had that sonogram type thing (sorry, can't remember what it's called) of her heart and confirmed that there is fluid there, but of course the person doing it wouldn't say anything but that, so, mom should hear back around Friday what the results were and where to go from here...

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

    love to you all,

    christy

  10. Where to start... Her three month scans (Dec 14) seemed to be ok... Then she ended up in the ER on Christmas Eve with nausea and vomitting, and pain in the lower abdominal area...(this has been coming and going for a few weeks..) They gave her a CT scan and said she has infalmmation of the colon. Ok, so they give her like 7 scripts, inc. two antibiotics.

They say the scan also shows a mass on the adrenal (which has always looked enlarged, suspicious..) and ALSO she has fluid around her heart.

So, she has doc appts yesterday, of course they're concerned about the fluid around her heart. Her pcp gave her a tb test, just in case...She has a sonogram of the heart scheduled for next Wed, and colonoscopy sometime in the near future as well to see what's going on there...

On top of all this, my uncle's lc is back and he starts chemo soon.

My grandma is in the hospital, nearing the end. They found a mass on her brain, and she's had small strokes... She won't eat or drink much. She's hooked up to about 5 iv bags, fat and vitamins and such. I hope she can go home soon with hospice.

Well, how do you like that for an update??! :?

    ((hugs))

  11. YEA JAMIE!!! :)

    God is so good!

You're a blessing to everyone of us here on the boards as well as everyone you come in contact with!

    God bless you,

    Christy

  12. wow! (thanks for moving me, Katie!)

Have I told ya'll lately how much I love you??!! :)

What a blessing you all are to me!! Out of something so terrible, I get a whole new wonderful encouraging family! :) God is good!

    Thank you all!

Yes, Cindi, I should try that. All I know is, I want to take care of people.

This is kinda OT, but hey, it's my thread.

Day before yesterday I had to help my grandma with her colostomy. She's not doing good these days. :(

It hurts my heart to see her like this. Her and grandpa still live in their little house together, with my dad and his siblings cking on them more than once a day. She also has home health come out too. But she's not talking so much anymore. And she doesn't want to eat hardly anything.

Anyway, she's also not remembering to care for the colostomy like she used to. So, I put it on for her. She said, 'well, I guess you're gonna have to do this pretty soon anyway, might as well get some training.' Poor thing...

I've been so blessed to have all four of my grandparents THIS long! Just the thought of loosing one is heart breaking...

  13. Ok, sugar cookies, iced or not... I just love them! Especially when my mom made the chocolate icing herself... mmmmmm :)

I usually make the dipped pretzels, fudge, and haystacks every year. (what we call haystacks are the chow mein noodles coated in butterschotch or chocolate chips with or w/o peanuts... yumm!!)

Now, my aunt makes wonderful coconut balls and peanutbutter balls. DELICIOUS!

I think I'm ready to make my candy now! :)

    thanks Ann!! :)

    C.

  14. Thanks everyone!

I'll be actively looking for a job after Christmas. I didn't want to have to leave my kids during Christmas break, or the possibility of working on Christmas didn't sound good either! I've been checking out all the jobs though, just gotta pray I find the best place for me!

    God bless,

    ((hugs))

    Christy

  15. I passed my state test today!!

I made a 98%!!! The lady was impressed with my scores, she said they have never had anyone make a 100 but I was close! :)

Now both tests are behind me and I can get a job! :)

I'm actually considering hospice, and definitely leaning towards something in home health are for sure.

    Thanks for all your encouragement!!

    Love you all,

    Christy
