    What is PCI?

PCI cannot guarantee no brain mets will be happened. My dad was the living case. He had the brain mets too after PCI. For me, PCI didn't do any good to him as he started to feel weak and uncomfortable after PCI...never bouncing back to the days receiving chemo. But PCI is a standard treatment to SCLC patients especially limited SCLC patients. It's really difficult to prove its effectiveness as there is no what-if in each case. No pre-assumptions can be made. You should ask the oncologist as they are more professional than us.

    Flu shot

It's highly recommended I guess. Patient's health will be weakened by chemo treatment. Better to consult the oncologist first.
  3. it's a good idea to be with her. In a sense, you can be her support. How old is your mother? I guess oncologist will tell you and your mom in details during first meeting. S/He may tell you what kind of chemo regimen for your mom, how many times of lung radiation (once per day / twice per day) will do PCI or not, what should your mom pay attention to during receiving chemo. What side effects chemo may cause etc. Hope the above information may help. Take care of your mom's emotions is important too especially during the inital stage after diagnosis.

    multi-vitamin

It is a hot debate / controversial topic. Some said vitamins do good, some said some vitamins do bad to cancer patients. But I think multi-vitamins won't harm as all vitamins in one tablet won't contain high dosge of each vitamin. It will be better for you to consult the oncologist. My dad was taken multivitamins, but we can't tell how it affected my dad in either good way / bad way.
  5. Pet scan will tell if nodules is cancerous. It can be the recurrence. When will the Pet scan be scheduled?
  6. i am so so sorry about your loss. But your husband was passed away in such a peaceful manner with great dignity. He passed away after the meal that everything was happening so normal, so natural. My deepest sympathies are with you, your husband was invited to another better place and were given a pair of wings.

    DeanCarl's artwork

actually i didn't know Dean was an artist until his gone. He was a gifted person, I love people who like arts. Dean, you were the painter, hope you are painting more in the heave now.
  8. you make me think about the TV series "Lost". I love this series.
  9. i'm so sorry for this. Her kids will never forget her deepest love to them. We will miss you Beth!!

  11. hi, just found out a wonderful website, you can listen to the christian songs as the background music while you're online...enjoy : http://www.oldchristianradio.com/
  12. Our dear friend - Dean the warrior...you are our big lost . You indeed inspired me a lot. May you rest in peace and driving fast with your scooter in a better place.
  13. Dean, you're in my prayer. May God give you & Gay special strength to go thru this most difficult time.
  14. Thx for letting me know about the National Guard entering into state issue. I understand more about the running. Bureacrucy is happening all over the world, no single country can be the exception. About the punishment topic, funny thing is, one of the assumptions/rumors is come from a US church - punishment's happened bcoz Israeli were forced to leave Gaza with the influence from US government. I hope that this thread didn't offend you & sorry if you felt offended . God's punishment is not my thinking/thought, I was only intended to share what others may think / comment on this disaster casually. You know, there's always another angle to view a single issue. I really don't mean those victims are deserved bcoz all of them are innocent. Sorry again
  15. God, pls show your mercy to those victims, let them know you're here for them, pray that the government provides the immediate needs/necessities to them, pray for those who lost their family members, in Jesus's name, Amen.
  16. i listened to a radio programme few days ago, one man said Katrina is probably sent by God to penalize US bcoz G.W. Bush used the money/reserve originally for building the "a dam" in those provinces (not sure New Orleans or Lousianna or Missisippi (sp?)) but finally used on the Iraq war... and those majority votes from provinces were gone to G.W. Bush in last election. Besides, the military forces from those provinces were sent to the Iraq & Afghanistan, that causes delay in rescue. What do you think about that? For myself, when I watched the TV news, I am so angry that how come US government reacted so slow to this disaster...US is supposed to be the no. 1 strong country and how can the government do this to her people.
  17. Hong Kong is such a small city, with super-convenient public transportation system, we don't actually need a car...I never have one so far!! For me, it's not a necessity...
  18. It`s an interesting topic...thx for bringing up. The first summer job is being a waitress in a cafe inside department store. The first full-time job is being a Receptionist in an electronic manufacturing company.
  19. Hi Jen, My prayers are with you. Keep doing good!
  20. If possible, staying home is a better choice, although there will be some problems/troubles for caregivers. Any on-site nursing service can be found? I hope your mom will get better & gain back some strengths soon.
  21. I will miss her very much...
  22. I hope my dad's story would be a reference for you. my dad wasn't give`n any meds for brain mets. My dad did get a PCI, but PCI doesn't guarantee no mets to brain, i think it only delays it. The neurosurgeon did the brain surgery to my dad. But my dad is a very special nasty case that the cancer just spread / reoccurred in just a blink. Talk to the onco & neurosurgeon, see gamma knife / radiosurgery / radiation would be possible. Keep us posted and I certainly keep you in my prayers.
  23. i am sorry. I don't think you are selfish. If I were you, I must ask him to quit the job, but not this moment. He is probably in the "Denial" stage that he isn't ready or even accept the fact. Give him some time and talk to him regularly & one day, he may know & understand what are the most appropriate things he should do.
  24. Hi Peggy, I am so so sorry for your loss and it shocks me indeed as I just checked in. I know your life will never be the same again but he will be always in your heart wherever you are, whenever it is.
