  4. congratulations! Thanks God.
  5. , thank you for all your kind advices..... Newbie, Qigong is a very good exercise......there is many types of Qigong, but I strongly believe that all types are good to health. My dad is exercising one type, he feels so good after exercising. Moreover, he is going to learn another type of Qigong which there is a scientific research on Hong Kong cancer patients (sample), which conducted by one of our major governmental hospitals about its (specific type Qigong) benefits, the result found that those health condition of patients who exercise that specific "qigong" were better than those did not exercise. Sorry that I don't know how to translate those chinese into english especially the professional medical terms, the content is something like some inside body substances which help to fight cancer cell are increased. Now, this hospital opens classes for cancer patients. The name of that type of Qigong is "Kuolin Qigong". This type is especially addressing to cancer patients. It is very good for you to find someone who know Qigong.
  6. Could my Dad go to swim in pool ??? I want to bring him swimming coz he loves swimming..... He is now in excellent health condition and one more round chemo ahead (end of Aug). Thank you very much!
  7. You are quite the same as me.....becasue my dad is treated by the government hospital, we cannot rely on them too much as those doctors are too busy and they cannot pay much attention & focus on every's patient case. We then go out to seek for another private oncologist's opinion and try new trials through him. Government hospital does not have too much budget on trying new drugs etc...... On the other hand, my dad quite trusts those docs. in government hosiptal, my dad relies on them much, i understand the reason behind bcoz if you do not trust them, what can you trust at this moment?? How can you justify about what they are doing to you? I understand that, I know I am not the doctor, I am not a professional, but just hesitate the resource problem, not hesitate their ability & professionalism....Just wonder whether they have enough time to have research & get timely information while they are too busy with all patients. So I will seek other oncs. help.....

  9. July 28, 2003 NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Treatment with tetrathiomolybdate, a copper chelating agent, can inhibit the growth of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in mice, according to a report published in the July issue of the Archives of Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery. Tetrathiomolybdate was initially developed as a treatment for the excessive copper accumulation characteristic of Wilson's disease. Around the same time, researchers also discovered that copper is an important cofactor for angiogenesis. Based on this, the drug has recently been tested as an anticancer agent in various animal models. Previously, Dr. Theodoros N. Teknos, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and colleagues showed that tetrathiomolybdate could inhibit angiogenesis and decrease tumor growth when given to animals with head and neck SCC. In the new study, Dr. Teknos' team wanted to see if long-term therapy with the drug, initiated before tumor implantation, could suppress tumor growth. Seven test mice were fed tetrathiomolybdate-containing drinking water for 20 days, while six controls received regular water. On day 21, all of the animals were injected with SCC cells. The mice continued to receive their assigned treatment for 70 days. By day 35, all of the control animals, but only five of the test mice, had measurable tumor growth. From day 40 through 54, the mean tumor volume was significantly lower in the test group than in controls. In fact, at day 54, the average volume in the test group was just 65 microliters, much lower than the mean volume in controls -- 1716 microliters (p < 0.001). To further verify that the effects seen were due to tetrathiomolybdate, the researchers withheld the drug on day 54. This led to a marked rise in tumor growth, resulting in no significant differences in tumor volume between the groups by day 60. "Based on the findings of this study, a number of future investigations are being undertaken to identify the optimal use of this promising compound," the authors note. The drug might be useful in preventing microscopic recurrences or as a sensitizing agent for cytotoxic therapies.

    REMISSION!!

Hi Cathy I found your dad's profile and know that no further chemo is going to be done. DID YOU CONSULT YOUR ONC ABOUT THE IRESSA & TM? TM is anti-copper drugs. Maybe I am quite disturbing you, sorry for that, but just found your dad's profile and hope I can help.
  11. Smoking During Lung Cancer Treatment This study concludes that patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) who continue to smoke during treatment are more likely to die within five years than patients who quit smoking before treatment begins. Small-cell lung cancer is almost always caused by smoking, and it is difficult to treat even when it has not spread. The 215 patients in this study had limited stage cancer (confined to one lung and nearby lymph nodes). They were treated with chemo-therapy and radiation to the chest at the same time. Smoking status was recorded for 186 patients in the study. Of this group, 79 smoked during treatment and 107 had quit smoking before treatment. Based on factors such as age, sex, and overall health, there were no significant differences between the two groups to account for the difference in outcomes. Two years after therapy: Twenty-eight percent (28%) of non-smokers were still living, compared with 16% of smokers. At five years, nearly 9% of non-smokers were still alive, compared with 4% of smokers. Thirty-two percent (32%) of non-smokers and 18% of smokers remained free of disease. At five years, 18% of non-smokers were disease free, compared with 7% of smokers. Smokers were just as likely as non-smokers to stop treatment because of side effects. But smokers who had to stop treatment to recover from side effects had poorer overall survival compared to other patients. (Abstract #1176) What does this mean for patients? Though quitting smoking is difficult, this study shows that quitting smoking can have benefits at any stage of lung cancer. "The evidence shows that smokers tolerated the treatment as well as non-smokers did," said study leader Greg Videtic, MD, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. "Even so, the lower survival rates of smokers suggest that smoking itself may reduce the effectiveness of the therapy." "I tell my patients to stop smoking so they can gain all the possible benefits of treatment," said Dr. Videtic.

    Randy is gone.

May God comfort you and lead your way ahead.
  13. for patients and their family, time is very precious and will not allow any accident or exceptions for doctor & nurse, they will make a guess and quite tolerance on waiting for few days to re-evaluate. PET scan will tell, if i were you, I will insist. For my Dad, maybe he is treated in government hospital, doctors are fully occupied and extremely busy enough (definitely all machines are also fully booked as well)......only we can do is seeking for private hospital's facilities and private doctors' advices by paying huge medical expenses (no insurance).
  14. Do you know any about Dr. Malin Dollinger? Is he famous in treating cancer? thank you.
  15. Will pray for an excellent response on new regime. Don't worry.
  16. Thank you for your all prayers. Dad just met Dr. Doctor said, the tumor has been shrunk so well after four rounds chemo, my Dad will start the 5th round tomorrow. According to the X-ray slide, doctor said, from 3-Dimension view, the tumor is shrunk to 1/10 left of the original size AND from 2-dimension view, the tumor is shrunk to less than 1/3 left of the original size. But I have a question, should I count the 3-Dimension rather than the 2-Dimension? What is the difference ?? Doctor said, after all chemo are finished, my Dad will take one month rest and start to have the preventive brain radiation. Total 10 times brain radiation. Is it normal ? Thank you again and it is really encouraging.
  17. Sorry for I can't help to give any info or advice to you with reference to my dad's case. But, I would like to share a song with you ~~ "God will make a way, where there seems to be no way, HE works in way, we cannot see, HE will make a way for me." Sometimes, we don't know what is the best for us, only GOD has His own plan and will. Hang in there.....leave it to HIM.

    A Downer of a Weekend

Hi Dave You are a brave man and you are the person who knows how to enjoy life. You can get through it. Try to do some silly things that it may bring some joy.
  21. Hi Linda May I know what chemo drug was taken? So far, my Dad's blood count is normal after two round chemo. He took chinese herbal tea and a supplement, both claims will help to minimize the side effect. I cannot tell whether they really work, but at least my Dad's blood count is normal. You may try to consider.
  22. These few weeks, my Dad's emotion is unstable. He keeps on working and restless. He cannot fall into sleep. He is suffered. His temper become very worse and he just does what he thinks is right. Totally ignore our advices, then I brought him to the Onco and had the MRI brain scan, no cancer spread. Then we brought him to the psychiartrist, the psychiartrist said he is fine, have minimal mental problem that will be resolved by meeting him several times. One day after, we brought him to see the Chinese Herbalist, the Herbalist said trying best not to take too much medicine that this will intefere his SYSTEM, from his experience, what happens on my Dad is because the spread to the brain, in their point of view, several cell reached the brain that MRI cannot detect it. Then we try to follow the Herbalist's opinion not to take so many pills, this was agreed by my dad. But these few days, he took the pills and we found it. He scolded us and said "Do you want me to die? I am restless!" I am afraid that he will rely on these medicine.... My mum said when she accompany with my dad having chemo, she asked other patients' family about will the chemo drug affect their emotions? They said, many of them are like my dad, always have a very very BAD temper. I had few arguments with him. You know, during these few weeks he lived with me, my mental is heavily affected. He is a rush guy, hot temper guy, keep walking around you. Yesterday night I cried and left my house for a while, I don't know why, I ask GOD, why this happen? He is just retired for 2 years, and this 2 years I worked and studied at nightime and spent very little time be with them before he was dx. I have examinations for my last semester in this coming two weeks. I am very tired to take care of him. My mum is a reactive person, she never do anything on her initiative. Yesterday night, I was angry because he said many rude words to me and hesitated and blamed me, he said, I dont know what is happening on him, he needs the pills badly, and blame me not let him to take it. Scold me that I want him to die, maybe when he would die, I will cry for only one tear. BLA BLA BLA....... I am not that person he said and I do every best I could, afterwards I cried and really want to give up and think DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO, YOU ARE THE PATIENT!! YOU HAVE YOUR OWN CHOICE. When I came home, my dad was left and went back to his home. My mum followed. In fact, I try to do for the best for him. He needs the immediate ease. I just wonder that should I let him do whatever he wants, relationship is the first priority??? I don't know.
  23. My dad today just completed the 3rd round chemo and normally when should his condition be evaluated? Cisplatin is replaced by Carbo from the 3rd round onwards.... will the result be affected by this sudden change?
  24. I am sorry to hear that and it really shocked me and my tears ran out for your loss, I can feel how deep is your love to him. Sorry !! May GOD comfort you and you are not alone.
  25. Renet as i am Chinese who live in HOng Kong, I may understand the Chinese Herbal Tea concept more, the rationale behind is : Herbal Tea customized Recipe is formulated by the Chinese Herbalist after meeting you and evaluating your health condition by evaluating your pulse rate and tongue. The logic is these are reflecting your inner health system & condition. Their concept is to balance/justify your inner self-system so as to maintain the size of tumor (not kill the cancerous cell by the tea directly). The Concept behind is, this is possible for human to live with the tumor by stopping its growth & spread. sorry for I don't know where you can find a trustful Chinese Herbalist in your area. But, you should find a nearby qualified & experienced Herbalist because they need to meet you frequently to formulate the appropriate combination of different ingredients for you. Everyone is different that you cannot take others' formula as yours (even same person, everytime the combination of ingredients is different.) The Chinese Herbal Cure has a long long history and the experiences & knowledges as well as the wisdom are accumulated by previous herbalists over thousands of years. Even for myself, this is not easily understandable, you should not treat it as the only way of treatment but the complimentary. Hope this help.
