  3. I am going to be On and Off for a while. First of all I have returned to work for now. It is that dreaded GRAVEYARD shift. No fun trying to sleep in the daytime. Thank God this is only going to be part-time.

Secondly, I am disapearing with my wife for a few days. Nope, NOT Dollywood this time. Our aniversary was 2 weeks ago and neither of us could fit the trip in our schedule.

Will be checking in periodically to check on everyone so everybody stay in line while I am gone.

I am a poor boy and can't afford any fines. I owe Ry enough now. So I am asking for a Hall Pass this time. Will be thinking of each of you.

  4. Have a good trip Cindi. If anybody deserves it, you do. Thanks for being here for all of us and sharing a laugh now and then. Take care, my friend, and enjoy yourself.

  5. I am sure that David and Bob are both smiling down at you now Debi. I totaly understand what you are saying. They are only two of the ones that helped make both you and I a survivor. I know their laughter picked me up plenty of times. BTW...YOU were right there in the middle with them. Sure had some good laughes didn't we. Thanks Debi.

  6. I attended my second Relay For Life last night. It rained last year and I did not get to walk, so last night was the first year that I got to walk the Survivors Lap. For those of you that have never walked you need to give it a try. It is an experiance that I can not explain.

I am a little over 2 years out from surgery. I don't think I have shed the first tear since my dx. I may have cried in pain a few times, but last night as we rounded each curve people were standing there cheering us on. I about lost it. Had I not had my wife by my side I probably would have.

There were 3 state legislators there. Just as I crossed the finish line I noticed they were headed for the gate. I ran into them. One of them, whom I went to school with, said to me as were shaking hands, "you walked your survivors lap didn't you." I looked at him and said "I sure did. I would walk that lap if I had to crawl."

As some of you may recall from an earlier post of mine, I stand to loose my medical coverage at the hands of the State. You guessed it. He was one of the legislators that supported the Governer. That is a whole new story.

Anyway, I wanted to share my experience with you. Get out and walk if you can.

  7. My wife stayed home from work for 2 days after I came home. This was to make sure I would be ok. After that she fixed my meals and I ate while she worked. Other then that I stayed by myself. I think you should stay as long as possible with her. A day...a week...whatever your schedule will allow. Play it by ear. I am sure she will do fine.

Another thing that has not been mentioned....Take care of yourself. I can tell you love your mom. Don't want to scare you but sometimes pneumonia follows lung surgery. Don't wear yourself out and not have energy should you need it later.

  8. Hi Bunny,

I am a little late also, but better late then never. I had my lung removed in 2003. In fact it was 2 years ago today. It was a rough surgery. I won't try to sugar coat the recovery. Everything the doctors told me to expect after surgery was Wrong...(GOOD THOUGH). I was told to expect life support tube to be in place, tubes in my side and to be in ICU when I woke up. Wrong I woke up in recover room proped up on one arm talking to the nurse that was going to become a mom in about 2 weeks. I only wonder what I might have said before I woke up. I had no tubes except IV and I went to a room not ICU. The surgon later told me I was fussing about being hungry in recovery.

The thought of removing a lung is scarey but like the others have said...It is doable. It was rough at first and I thought the doctors had killed me. The staples hurt more then anything.

Anyway, here is a run down. I went in hosp on Tuesday and they had me up walking on Wednesday. Boy did I want to be left along. I was ready to go home by Saturday but my surgeon wanted me to stay till Monday because I had small fever.

    Here are some tips....

Take that pillow or Teddy Bear to put under the arm when your Mom coughs. Don't be afraid to cough. Get the junk out of the lung so it doesn't cause pneumonia. Use the spiramoter...the thing that you breath through. Walk as much as possible. Ask for the pain meds before the pain begins. Don't think you don't need then because there is no pain. It will come along shortly so ask before it does come.

At home, I did not sleep in recliner but on my side. I used pillows to prop my side on so as not to roll over. Actually I was to sore to move. I could not drive for several weeks. Once I got staples out, things started feeling better.

2 years later.... I am short of breath but not on oxygen. Bending hurts me a lot. I get winded and have to sit if exerting myself. Acid reflux....count on getting it.

Be looking for your post after the 24th for the results on the surgery. Good Luck to your mother.

PS: Another good advice comes from BobMC. Look for his post in the memberlist. PM me if I can help further.

  9. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. My mom was 80 when I lost her and I thought it was hard. I can only imagine loosing a mother at 60. Prayers going up to help you through the days ahead.

  10. Peggy, I am saddened to learn of these turn of events. Don still has a good attitude about it and that helps a lot. We know that miracles happen everyday. Praying that one is headed your way.

While it is true, there has been a lot of sad news on here lately, there has also been some good news. Altho you may feel down at times, you need to come here if only to get a "pick me upper." Praying for you and Don.

  11. Please accept my condolences. David was an inspiration to us all here at LCSC. For you older members....remember the challange to dress up with that blond wig...and drag. We all had a good laugh from that one. David is at peace now. He lost the battle but not the war. We have to wage the next battle.

  12. 25. The Ten Commandments display was removed from the Alabama Supreme Court building. There was a good reason for the move: You can't post Thou Shalt Not Steal, Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery and Thou Shall Not Lie, in a building full of lawyers and politicians without creating a hostile work environment.

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

  13. I agree with Debi and Ry. Karen is also right. They can't ask about your medical history.

I have been pondering the same question for some time now as I plan on re-entering the workforce. I plan on putting "Medical Leave" as reason for leaving last job. If they persue it I can give further info as needed, but Karen is right and I think it will end the questions.

On another note I was approached by the supervisor of a local company the other day. He knows about my cancer surgery. He wants me to work 3 days per week as in the Security Dept. I may not even explain it at all unless asked.

Good Luck and don't stay away so long again. Let us know how it goes for you. Good Luck.

  14. Glad to hear that all turned out well, Debi. You did a great job of putting it into words. I know what the wait is like.

I had some blood drawn about a week before my bronscopy was done. When I went for the test my pulmonary doctor asked why I didn't have the blood drawn at the lab. I replied, I did. He thought that the report had got lost. He called the lab at the hospital and guess what...They had no record of me being there. Not only was blood test lost but I had to have it done over and wait on the results twice.(another week)

Anyway, glad you are ok. BTW, did they find what was causing the dizziness to start with. I have the same problem at times.
