  2. Hi Lea! This is Caitlin. My dad also has lung cancer. And I think he's doing a lot better. From what I've read it sounds like your dad is doing great as well. Let me tell you about me and my family. I'm 12 as well. I'm in 7th grade. I'm not from the U.S. I'm adopted from South Korea and that is me with my family in the picture. Before my dad had lung cancer he smoked too. But then he stopped. This is my first time so it was nice to meet you and I hope we can talk more. I am using my dad's sign on so you can see my picture. I will have to get my own sign on name also. -Caitlin

  3. Andrea,

I used all th above drugs except the aloe vera. The thing that work the best for me during the day was chewing gum. My cough was so bad that I could not say but a few words and start coughing. I went for a PET scan last year and told the tech that I was afraid I could not hold still long enough because of my cough. She told me to simply keep swallowing and you will not cough. That is why the gum works, because you keep swallowing the slavia.

It does not have to be gum. rock candy will work to. I am diabetic so the candy was no good for me, I think I remember your mother is to.

  4. Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their

    new wives duties.

The first man had married a woman from Alabama, and bragged that he had

told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and house cleaning that

needed done at their house. He said that it took a couple days but on

the third day he came home to a clean house and the dishes were all

    washed and put away.

The second man had married a woman from Florida. He bragged that he had

given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and

the cooking. He told them that the first day he didn't see any results,

but the next day it was better. By the third day, his house was clean,

the dishes were done, and he had a huge dinner on the table.

The third man had married a Michigan girl. He boasted that he told her

that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn

mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal. He

said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see

anything, but by the third day most of the swelling had gone down and he

could see a little out of his left eye. Enough to fix himself a bite to

eat, load the dishwasher, and telephone a landscaper.

Got to love them Michigan girls!

  5. That is great news. I thought if one had chemo (John Fact) organs could not be donated. I have always signed up for organ donation and felt bad they would go to waste when I die because of the chemo I have had.

My liver has to be good. I have given it a good work out.

I have a story to share about a little boy who had asthma and played hockey at the same arena that Tyler my son played. He was about 12 and had an attach that killed him. One year later his family attend a hockey tournament in his name. The Young girl who sang the National Anthem at the opening ceremony received his lungs as a organ donation. I believe the family did not know this until she sang.

  6. Movie Theater Mayhem!

A man was sprawled across three entire seats in a theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the man, "Sorry sir, but you''re only allowed one seat."

The man groaned but didn''t budge. The usher became impatient.

"Sir," the usher said, "if you don''t get up from there, I''m going to have to call the manager."

Again, the man just groaned, which infuriated the usher who turned and marched briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager. In a few moments, both the usher and the manager returned and stood over the man. Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move him, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police. The cop surveyed the situation briefly.

"All right, buddy. What''s your name?"

    "Sam," the man moaned.

"Where ya from, Sam?" the cop asked.

    "The balcony."

  7. Poor Old Man

This old man goes to the doctor's.

"Help, Doc. I just got married to this 21 year old woman. She is hot and all she wants to do is have sex all day long."

    "So what's the problem?"

    "I can't remember where I live."

  8. I would join, but Rochelle will not let me. She says I am too skinny now. I can pinch an inch if I bend over.

If weight was years I would be a century and three quarters.

I can credit my weight loss to my excellent health. The first 40 pounds was due to diabetes. The second 15 pounds was due to chemo. I called my cancer center, "Judy's Hair and Weight Loss clinic". Judy is the wonderful head nurse at the chemo room.

  9. Wife #1: Hey, Lynn, tell me this. How did you get your husband from staying out late?

Wife #2: Well, everytime he would come home I would simply say, 'Mike, is that you?'

Wife #1: But I still don't understand. How did that kept him from staying out?

Wife #2: My husband's name is Andrew.

  10. Sharon,

I hope I can help you feel better about your Dad's fatigue. I am almost 2 years since my dx. I like your Dad am not the same and will never be the same again. I have work my way out of the fatigue out of necessity. Before Rochelle got sick with endocarditis I slept 9 hours a day and sometimes an afternoon nap. When she got sick I had to be up at 6:30 to get our 5 year old daughter off to school. Then all the household duties. I visited her in the hospital twice a day. Gave her Mother care, she broke her shoulder the same week Rochelle got sick. Plus lot more stuff but I need to shorten this. I got beyond the fatigue.

Like your Dad I still can not do the things I used to do. I can do strenuous things but have to sit down and rest a while. Then get back at it. I used to work right along and not need any rest. I am really happy that I can still do stuff but, it is frustrating that it takes me so much longer. I do not get as much done in a day as I used to. I think how your Dad is doing is "normal" considering the disease and how long he is a survivor. Try not to be scared. Relax and enjoy your time together. Worry only wears on you and does not do anybody any good. Deal with the crap and enjoy the good.

    Take care John

  11. I do not think x-rays are good enough to say much. CT or PET scans are the best. I do not know why but my Doctors only order CTs every three months and PETs once a year. It may because insurance will not cover CTs but every three months. That is only a guess on my part. Rochelle would call it a "John fact". That is something I think up with out anything to back it up.

  12. Stone Surprise

One day there were two boys playing by a stream when they saw a woman bathing naked. All of a sudden one of the boys took off running. The other boy took off after his friend. After he caught up to him, he asked why he ran away.

"Well," the boy said, "my mom told me that if I ever saw a naked lady I would turn to stone, and I felt something getting hard so I ran."

  13. Tess,

Gemzar was the only chemo that I was sick by the end of the day after my treatment. I would be weak and lots of fatiuge for about three days. While I recieved the Gemzar I had to give myself daily injections of Leukine and weekly injection of Procrit. Talk to your onc about these injections. I never thought I could give myself injections but, it was not bad if I used insulin needles. They are really fine needles that do not hurt much. I gave myself these injections under the skin on my inner thigh. I hope this helps. John

  14. Marty wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes. The first thing he sees is a couple of aspirin and a glass of water on the side table. He sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, clean and pressed. Marty looks around the room and sees it is in perfect order, spotless clean; so is the rest of the house. He takes the two aspirin and notices a note on the table that reads, "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping. Love You!"

He goes to the kitchen and sure enough there sits a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table eating. Marty asks, "Son, what happened last night?"

His son answers, "Well, you came home after 3 am, drunk and delirious. Broke some furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door."

Confused, Marty asks, "So, why is everything in order and so clean, and breakfast on the table waiting for me?"

His son replies, "Oh, that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you said, "Lady, leave me alone, I'm married!"

    A self-induced hangover - $100.00

    Broken furniture - $200.00

    Breakfast - $10.00

Saying the right thing - PRICELESS

  15. As usual I agree with Rochelle. It is not pretty when we do not agree. I started the attack on this disease one day after my dx. The doctors were very aggressive because of the involvement of the Vena Cava. The only break I took was from radiation/chemo to see if I could have surgery. The doctors made adjustments according to my schedule or how I was feeling.

The only chemo that hit me the same day as my treatment was Gemzar. When I was down I was down about three days. I will tell you that everyone reacts to chemo differently. I felt lucky that fatigue was really my only symptom. Procrite injections helped boost my energy some. I tell you though none of the chemo was fun. Being down three days out of three weeks is not bad.

Be very careful of fevers. See your doctor if it is 101 or higher. I made the mistake of taking Tylenol and not telling them. I ended up in the hospital with really low white blood cell count. It was 1 and anything below 11 is low. They could have helped me if I had told them sooner.

I have gotten extra time with my family because I was put on disability insurance right away. Enjoy all your time with your family, but keep up the battle so you can have more time with them. My advice is stay with the battle and make small adjustments in your treatment as needed. I feel that eight weeks off is a bit too long. Good luck with your decision. John

  16. In a crowded city at a crowded bus stop a beautiful young woman was waiting for the bus. She was decked out in a tight leather mini skirt with matching tight leather boots and jacket. As the bus rolled up and it became her turn to get on the bus she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the bus' first step. So slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver she reached behind her and unzipped her skirt a little thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg.

Again she tried to make the step onto the bus to discover she still could not make the step. So, a little more embarrassed she once again reached behind her and unzipped her skirt a little more. And for a second time she attempted the step and once again, much to her chagrin she could not raise her leg because of the tight skirt.

So with a coy little smile to the driver she again unzipped the offending skirt to give a little more slack and again was unable to make the step.

About this time the big Texan that was behind her in the line picked her up easily from the waist and placed her lightly on the step of the bus. Well, she went ballistic and turned on the would-be hero, screeching at him ''How dare you touch my body!! I don't even know who you are!! ''

At this the Texan drawled, ''Well ma'am, normally I would agree with you but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kinda figured we was friends.''

  17. Taking a wee break from the golf circuit, Tiger Woods drives his new

Buick Rendezvous into an Irish gas station. An attendant greets him in

typical Irish manner, unaware who the golf pro is. "Top o' the morning

    to

you". As Tiger gets out of the car , two tees fall out of his pocket.

    "So what

are those, son?" asks the attendant. "They're called tees, " replies

    Tiger.

"And what would ya be usin 'em for, now?" inquires the Irishman. "'Well,

they're for resting my balls on when I drive", replies Tiger. "Jaysus,

Mary an' Joseph!" exclaims the Irish attendant. "Those fellas at

    Buick think of everything!"

Glad you had fun on your vacation.

I have had my port in two years in mid June. Most of the people above covered a lot about ports. Hear are a few things that were not covered.

They can be on either side. Mine is on the left because they were doing radiation to the rt side and did not want to cover my rt lung.

It is about the size of a 50 cent piece and has a tail that goes all the way to close to the heart. This way the chemo can mix with more blood sooner. Thus not doing damage to the vein or artery.

Ask for a cream that dulls the skin over the port when they insert the needle to give you the chemo. The cream is applied one hour before your appointment. I wet the area around the port. Apply the cream. Then put a small piece of saran wrap over the port and cream. Some people use a Band-Aid put that side of my chest has hair. I use one called Lidocaine and Prilocaine. They did not tell me about the cream on my first visit and about went through the roof when they inserted the needle in to the port.

I have to go every 5 weeks to have my port flushed, since they have not accessed it regularly.

Lastly they told me no lifting. They did not say for how long. I milked it for as long as I could.
