NY LC Awareness Month!

well, after the woman from the American Cancer Society told me authoritatively that Nov. is NOT LCAM, I wrote Gov. Pataki an email. Lo and behold, I got a big schmancy official proclamation in the mail! :D

I'm not sure exactly who did the advocacy for it, but they did a great job - I like the language - only one paragraph about smoking, and it talks about the disparity in funding for reasearch. I'll try and find time to transcribe it.

what do I DO with this big ol' thing anyway!?

Be proud that you GOT it!

I jumped up and down in the post office and people looked at me like I was a nut!!

If you found out that Nov. wasn't LCAM in NY, but you got the proclamation in the mail- then YOUR e-mail was instrumental in getting this proclamation.

USE IT!

Take it with you when you begin your fundraising and sponsor hunting for the event you are planning next year. As for me, it's too late to use it to my benefit this year- (Except as a press release topic and to implore your local media to have more LC related stories this month)

But you can take it with you when you ask businesses for sponsorship, or even for something as simple as asking a store to put up a sign or a box for donations like Breast Cancer folks do.

Please tell off the person at the American Cancer Society! Send her a copy of the declaration! Call the news paper would be another idea or ABC news that the American Cancer Society was wrong! They advocate for all other cancers , why not for us!

I know, isn't it shocking!? she was selling her little pink key chains at an event one of my clients was having, telling me the only "lung cancer" event in Nov. was the Great American Smoke Out. oy.

she was actually really open to my getting involved in some of their work as "the lung cancer voice" so I want to 'tell her off', but as a segue to greater involvement by them.

we can change this. we HAVE to!!

Andrea,

I am certain Arnold signed somthing for CA and many folks weren't happy about the wording on it. *See the activism forum for SJAS's post.

I would also check directly with your state like Bunny did- as the link for LC Alliance is not up to date or in my case in Texas, was not accurate.

It showed Texas already, but that's impossible because I just received the proclamation yesterday and there wasn't one before. (I sent them an e-mail just now letting them know)
